My Apocalypse Games Box: Game Picks for the End of the World

While Covid-19 may make it seem like the apocalypse is already upon us, The Apocalypse Games Box has always been a tongue-in-cheek project. I consider it similar to how the podcast “Five Games for Doomsday” uses the backdrop of the apocalypse as a way to really just explore the meaning of games and gaming. The Apocalypse Game Box is my way of combining some of my many fascinations, including desi...

Looney Pyramid Holder for Singularity Boxes

It should come as no surprise that I find game systems fascinating, and Looney Pyramids are undoubtedly one of my favorites. For anyone unfamiliar, check out Pyramid Arcade which represents the culmination of the system into a big compendium box (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/187988/pyrami...

Excited to start working on games projects again

Hi all!

I hope everyone is doing well.

I finally have a bit more creative energy freed up and am excited to start working on games projects again. For the moment, I want to give an update on some of the things I have in the works and to give you an idea of what to expect over the next few months. There will be more posts throughout May with a bit more details.

Patreon paused through May

Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know I'm going to keep the Patreon paused through May.  As with last month, you don’t need to do anything and you wont be charged for the month. My schedule has almost settled into a new sort of normal, but things are still a bit unpredictable.

Hope everyone is doing well and playing lots of games!

All the best,

Matthew

Pausing the Patreon for April

Hi All,

I hope everyone is well and staying healthy. The purpose of this post is two-fold: 1. Give everyone an outline of the current projects I have in the works; 2. Let you know I’m going to pause billing for next month. You don’t need to do anything: this just means you will not be charged for the month of April.

Responding to changes at life and work as a result of COVID-19 has eaten up a large amount of my free time and I’m anticipating next month will be the same...

Wormhole Suit is Published

I'm excited to announce that the Wormhole Suit is finalized and has been published on Drive Thru Cards. The suit represents a bridge between the Earth and Cosmos suits. In terms of gameplay, it is a suit that stands alone and yet could represent any other suit as a wild-card. Stylistically, it was designed to pair with the Spacetime set.  Huge thanks to Eric Coutu for the original idea behind the design.

Patrons can pick up the suit from Drive Thru Cards with no ma...

Singularity Deck Print and Play PDF Files

Hi all!

Just a quick update. The individual card images for the Wormhole suit have been added to the drive. I also added print and play PDF files for the the Earth, Cosmos, and Wormhole suits. I'm still working on the Spacetime set PnP. These files should make it much easier for anyone who wants to print the deck themselves. I'm getting a proof of the Wormhole suit from Drive Thru Cards soon so expect a bigger post when it becomes available.

As always, a huge thanks.

Wormhole Suit

Hi All!

I wanted to show off the wormhole suit and get your feedback before I post it to drive thru cards and add the PnP files to the drive.

Let me know what you think.

-Matthew

Updated the image to be the latest version of the suit with the new tower card and some other minor tweaks. Overall I'm pretty happy with it, but of course, I'm always open to feedback.

Piecepack Print and Play PDF uploaded

I just uploaded a PDF Print and Play file for the Singularity Piecepack.

It's in Singularity Games -> Singularity Piecepack

For anyone unfamiliar with piecepack, it is an open source game system with a healthy community:  https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2860/piecepack.

I'm going to play test with this design a bit. After that I'll post it to the game crafter in case a...

Piecepack design compatible with the Singularity Deck

I'm messing around with designing a Piecepack set compatible with the Singularity Deck. In case anyone is unfamiliar, the Piecepack is a public domain game system that can be used to play a ton of different games by a bunch of different designers:  https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2860/piecepack

Singularity Boxes: Game Storage System

Singularity Boxes are 3D printed containers designed with board game storage in mind. The boxes are compatible with the seemingly defunct Bitbox system. The Singularity Boxes have a few advantages over Bitboxes: they have slightly more volume, they fit sleeved cards better, there are more size options, and they have increased durability. The biggest disadvantage is of course that they need to be printed. All that said I think the B...

Designing a modular 3D printed game storage system

I'm working on a modular 3D-printable game storage system for the Apocalypse Box. The boxes are compatible with the, unfortunately now defunct, Bitbox. I'm about 12 iterations in, but I'm close to something I'm happy with. I never thought a simple box would have so many design considerations.

Magnetic Modular Chessboard

This is a project that I’ve been working off and on again for a long time and I'm happy to finally share it.

The STL files and fusion files for everything have been added to the google drive.

I have one more 3D printing project in the works, then I'm going to focus on The Singularity Deck for a bit.

This is a grid board that can quickly change into any size, is portable, and can reflect different grid patterns. The board consists of a bunch of individual squares that...

3D Printed Mini Onitama Board

Onitama is a great little abstract strategy game. Your goal is to capture your opponent's leader pawn or occupy its home space with your own leader pawn. The movement of a pawn is determined by a random set of 5 movement cards selected during setup, only 2 of which are available to you at a given time. The beautiful twist is that as movement cards are used they are cycled to your opponent.

I wanted to bring the game with me on the go so I designed a board that easily fits in ...

3D Printed Can't Stop Board

Can't Stop is a wonderful push your luck game designed by the great Sid Sackson. I designed this board as a proof of concept for a variety of future projects making collapsible boards.

The board is available to download in the Singularity Games Onedrive -- just click on "Singularity Boards", then "Can't Stop Board."

It consists of nine 3D-printed "cards" that all connect together using clips. The board in the pictures was printed in wood filament and stained.

Huge Thanks! (Patreon Drive Access Link)

Hi All!

Huge thanks for joining me as I try to make all of the ideas that pop into my head a reality. I'm constantly humbled that there are others out there who show an interest in the designs. The goal of this patreon is to help me offset some of the costs of producing and sharing the work (Adobe subscription, ordering proofs, web hosting, etc.), and as a way to help me pick which projects to work on next. Any and all ideas for future projects are welcome!
