Buffomet

An illustration I contributed to Fortuna Media's BOOK OF SHADOWS: Buffomet anthology from 2019-2020. It appeared as the endpapers, and as a poster that came in the book.

Lion Gohma, Semi-Resplendent

One of my favorite paintings is "Jupiter and Semele" by Gustave Moreau, depicting the legend in which the god's lover Semele asks to see his true form/divine splendor, and when he does the overpowering presence of this form kills her. Moreau depicts it quite magnificently filled with all manner of buildings, fruits and foliage, creatures, and rays of light and effects of weather appearing. It's like the imagination being unfurled all at once into physical space.

I imagine the gohma as h...

Rust City

This piece has had kind of a long journey. Originally the image was from a dream I had years ago (you can see the date on the sketch) then around 2017-18 I finally got around to inking most of it, but got busy and put it aside, then finished the inks late last year and did the colors earlier this year.

In the dream it was this big city next to an ocean where all the buildings were made of metal and covered in rust, and trains and pipelines were on bridges and trellises just a little way...

Trekker

My pal Ron Randall is crowdfunding the latest volume of his long running sci-fi comics series Trekker, so I drew the protagonist Mercy St. Clair in an icy landscape with some machines. So here are the colors and the inks! The original was done on 11x17.

This is the campaign here http://TrekkerKickstarter.com

Rainbow Fish

A piece I pencilled in 2016, then inked and colored just tonight, I finished this a few minutes before posting. You can see that I added all the sea creatures below to the image on this new pass. I can't quite remember how this image relates to some others I made, but I wanted to capture a kind of a sense of magic and vitality rising up from the water.

Behemoth

I was imagining with this picture, giant beasts that wander the expanses of the world of spirits, and communicate through the symbols housed in the alcoves and altars decorating their bodies. An entirely different form of intelligence, separate from animal,  human, and deity, and separate even from the anthropomorphized animal spirits of fairy tales.

Originally I was going to title this "Sacred Cattle" but I think Behemoth is perhaps more fitting. I like it because it perhaps sugge...

Auroch & Lion Gohma

I don't have too much describe about this one beyond what the image depicts.

Auroch Gohma

I call the animal-people I draw The Goma. They are spirits similar to how nymphs and satyrs and fairies are spirits. They all represent ideas to varying degrees, for instance the foxes represent imagination. The Gohma (with an "h" in the spelling) are a more powerful order of goma, and are more closely tied to the ideas they represent than the other spirits.

The Auroch Gohma represent energy, and embody aspects from industriousness to laziness, or to meditation which can be an con...

Embrace

Since I've got a few of you in the AD tier already, here's something unposted anywhere else yet. This picture is part of the same batch of drawings I did in 2016, and then I inked and colored this one last night too. I've also included a couple screenshots of early color compositions, where I was trying to figure out the lighting and the color scheme before I settled on the main one.

I don't have too much to add to the description of the image otherwise.

Seaborn Fabrics

I inked and colored this last night. My original pencilling was done in 2016, and I'd been meaning to finish it (and... alot of others too frankly) for a while.

They're in a sort of oceanic/underwater palace, held up by great pillars of ever-shifting seafoam, drawing new colors and patterns, and testing out durability of the fabric in the water.

Cabinet of Curiosities

This cabinet collects an entire host of odd things from ancient talismans to cartridge video games and fishing lures. The Burning College is a place perpetually on fire, filled with eccentric scholars parsing these flames and seeking the secrets the smoke obscures.

I don't often scan my sketches and pencils, so here is kind of a rare glimpse into my process, from when I drew out the general composition, then refined it into the pencils, but still kept that sketch page on hand, where you...

Postcards

For my first post on patreon, here is an alternative coloring of the banner image, and the backs of two postcards. I created the visual theme of this blog around postcards, originally I had clever names for the tiers before opting for something more straightforward.

Part of the idea with these postcards is they operate magically. That the sigils drawn on them will reach whoever, wherever, or could even be sent to non-human entities, like ideas, deities, or to yourself in your drea...
