Hey guys!

I hope you've all had a fantastic weekend so far!

AND SO FINALLY, after a million years, the Abroad in Japan merchandise store is officially open, with five exciting and original designs, combining aspects of Japanese culture, with a retro 80's vibe, along with catchphrases from the videos.

It's taken a few months to get here, but we wanted to make sure we had something we'd be proud to sell, and proud to wear, and having spent the last month using the Li...

Against this depressing backdrop, there is some good news! We've seen 100 new awesome people supporting Abroad in Japan on Patreon this week alone and the future is looking brighter than ever for the channel.

Why I'm very angry.

Hey folks!

I hope you're all having a great weekend so far!

So I'll be posting this week's Patreon vlog tomorrow discussing numerous events from this week including North Korea, merchandise, and my new nightmare of Youtube demonetisation.

I've just spent the last few days locked away in a room producing this new video about the current North Korean situation, and having uploaded it and made it public for all to watch, IT WAS INSTANTLY DEMONETISED BY YOUTUBE for be...

(*New Video*) Where's the Best Place to Live in Japan?

Hey guys,

So last week my debut on NHK World took place - a tv show about Japanese rural cuisine called Savor Japan. I initially participated in the show with the hope it would bring me fame and fortune, and signify my launch into the world of Japanese tv.

Unfortunately, for anyone that watches it, you'll quickly find it's anything but the case - the painfully slow NHK WORLD editing style makes it a struggle to watch, and whoever edited it doesn't seem to understand English well -...

*NEW WEEKLY PATREON VLOG* | Abroad in Japan

Hey folks!

So today marks the launch of the new weekly Patreon vlog!!

I've been planning it for a while - I've really wanted to spend more time with you all face to face and this week seemed like a fitting time to start, against the backdrop of the North Korean missile video.

All is explained in the video - although I apologise in advance for the tired face and somewhat lack of energy, given this nightmarish week. In the many vlogs to come, I'll at least wear som...

Abroad in Japan Merchandise (finally) | 48 Hours in Sapporo: Day 2

Hey folks!

I hope you all had a terrific weekend.

So today is an exciting day; today is the day I announce the top secret research and development program to develop new Abroad in Japan merchandise.

Merchandise has long been one of our weakness; yes we have a few t-shirt designs that date back two years ago, and whilst they’re aesthetically pleasing enough, they’re not particularly bold or creative.

48 Hours in Sapporo | Trip with Natsuki | Day One

Hey folks!

So this week Natsuki and I packed our bags and headed to Sapporo, Hokkaido to shoot a few videos.

I've been keeping a daily diary of our trip (similar to our trip to Europe last month), charting the ups and downs of our journey, and today you can find the first diary for 'Day One' of our trip - with all the photos - attached in a glorious PDF to this post.

We also toyed around with a new camera we bought (DJI Pro) for filming sta...

5 Things to do in Akihabara | Tokyo

Hey folks!

I hope you're all having a great week so far.

So the other day I showed you the 80's VHS sequence I'd been working on - and now here's the full video on glorious Akihabara!

(Be sure to make it to the end of the video for a second 80s VHS scene!)

The only thing we didn't feature that I expect people will want to see is Maid Cafes, which I'm sure we'll film at a later date - not that I'm a fan of the concept to be honest!

But for now enjoy the video - and if...

Akihabara Video Opening (*Preview*) | Patreon Exclusive

Hey folks!

So the other day someone annoyed me by complaining that I don't shoot the videos in 4K resolution. I'm sure 4K is great for video games, but for a Youtube channel I still think it's a bit overkill and somewhat unnecessary.

In my frustration, I joked about making the new Akihabara video look like a 1980's VHS style video, as opposed to 4K.

- And then I did it.

To my surprise, it actually turned out far better than I could have dreame...

Ask Abroad Live Show | Sat 1st July

Hey folks,

So the second live show of June will be....the first day of July.

As we had to cancel the one in May due to Natsuki's injury, you may recall I said I'd be doing two this month. However, I wanted to do the second one at the weekend - as typically that's when most people are available to join - and hence, it'll be this Saturday!

THIS WEEK'S VIDEO LINE-UP | Abroad in Japan

Hey folks!

So, it's bloody good to be back in Japan in the full swing of things! I was blown away by the positive reaction to the most recent video (Why I've Not Made Videos Recently) and the trailer. The video got over 10,000 likes on its first day, which was very encouraging.

I'd love to give you the run down on the various videos we've got out this week, so you've got plenty to look forward to throughout the week!

WHAT I MISS ABOUT JAPAN THE MOST (WHEN I'M AWAY) | Article

 Well hello there everyone!

Firstly, let me apologise for the absence of communication during the last week.

Following on from the action packed filming with Natsuki, I spent a further week in Europe, getting some cut away shots and doing a spot of editing - as well as preparing to re-launch the channel this week.

I say re-launch, which sounds awfully bold, but really I’m referring to the very short new opening title sequence that’l...

So tomorrow's live show will be going ahead as planned, at 3pm London time (I've listed world times above for convenience - because, I'm like, a really nice guy).

As well as discussing the recent filming with Natsuki, I'll be talking about upcoming projects (including TV stuff), giving you all the details on You...

Ask Abroad Live Show | Sunday 4th June | 3pm GMT

Hey folks!

So first off, I just wanted to apologise again for not being able to do the live show with Natsuki last week.

We were both very much looking forward to it, as we have lots to discuss and catch up on, but as you'll know if you've been following along, Natsuki injured his neck and could barely move at the time (he's almost back to normal now).

If possible, I'd love to do the Live Chat this Sunday 4th, at 3pm (GMT), as it means viewers in most ...

Day 7 | Mona Lisa, Snails and the Champs-Élysées

We kicked off our second day in Paris with a visit to the Louvre to see - amongst other miraculous works of art - the Mona Lisa. I wanted to get Natsuki's take on it (as well as see it firsthand once and for all).

Natsuki's conclusion on the world's most famous painting?

"Good smile, but small face."

After getting more invaluable insights from Natsuki on numerous infamous works of art, we bumbled along the Champs-Élysées, to get a few holiday snaps for...

Day 6 | Lost in Paris

I don't condone smoking. But I rather like this photo.

After our epic last minute journey to Paris by car, thanks to British Airways' monumental IT fuck up, we found ourselves wandering around Paris in search of some kind of market at Natsuki's request.

Natsuki wanted to buy some props and items for the inside of his beauty salon, to help give a sense of culture and identity to the shop. It turned out t...

Day 5 | Natsuki has Acupuncture & British Airways suck

This whole week has felt like a series of random often disconnected moments and I could never have anticipated what we did this morning.

Following on from Natsuki's neck injury following a backwards somersault directly on to his neck, whilst flying elegantly in a wind tunnel, he requested we ta...

Day 4 - Stonehenge, Indoor Skydive, Sussex Hospital A&E and Brighton Pier

What a fun day we had!
Until Natsuki did a backwards somersault in a wind tunnel.

So we thought it'd be fun for Natsuki to try an indoor skydive en-route to Stonehenge, and thus at 9am on a Friday morning, Natsuki learned to fly.

And flew he did - for over 20 minutes - even displaying moments of elegance along the way.

But just as I thought we'd be able to successfully leave without incident and with Natsuki still intact, he daringly (and somewhat unwisely) attempted ...
