In this TouchDesigner tutorial we look at how to use the Kinect in combination with TD and Ableton to create a simple interactive instrument. For now we're only using kick and snare but you can add more sounds and use different instruments as well. You can use this without Ableton as well to trigger other events than sound. We're gonna look at how to use instancing and the Render Pick DAT in a later video. I'm using Ableton 10 and the Kinect V2.

Hey Explorers and Voyagers!
Here's a tool I developed these days. It makes working with simple text and layouting a bit easier. You can add titles, paragraphs and shapes, change the layouting (tiling etc) and add borders and grain.
It's a work in progess, so let me know if anything isn't working and what else you'd wish for this. You can of course add your own stuff inside the network and expand it.

Hi everyone!
Here's a quick instruction on how you can change your default TD startup file. Why change it? Because I've noticed there's a lot of stuff I do everytime I start a new file which takes unecessary time. You can either use the file I've attached or make your own.
Step 1: Open the Preferences [Edit > Preferences or Alt+P]
Step 2: Change [Startup File Mode] to [Custom File] (see image)
Step 3: Locate the file you'd like to use on [Custom Startup File]
Step 4: ...

Here's a little project for you! It's using texture instancing to create an image wall of either the incoming video or any image/video file and creates a cool pattern based on your silhoutte coming from the kinect. It also works with other inputs though.

In this video we look at how to detect the direction a person is walking and create a small system of files and noise which correspond with that movement.
I'm using the Kinect v2 but this should work with any other Kinect as well.

In this video we create a Comic look using three different layers: lines, colors/patches and the grid.
Tip: To work with an input image with alpha, use the "input" output as an alpha channel in the Reorder TOP. Then select the alpha channel in the color field of the geo to get rid of all the points that are shown on the alpha part of the image. Make sure you change the pixel format to RGBA as well.
