09.2018 Priests of Kyuss - custom miniature (ready to October requests)

"Custom heroes" are +1 extra monthly miniatures that are based on my patrons ideas. My every patron can send me a request for his own hero. Every month I will choose one and publish the design under +3$ tier.

This one is for FREE!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The whispering Priests of Kyuss are hermits, preferring the sandblasted dunes and arid caves of the desert to civilization.

There, in the wastelands of Oerth, they craft black rituals and sing grotesque songs, seeking to usher in the Age of Worms. Only when their grim prophecy comes to pass will their dark god Kyuss enter the world and claim dominion over every soul.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Priests of Kyuss  I designed for one of my Patron - Donathin Frye - comic book writer and RPG podcasts creator. You can follow him on his patreon website https://www.patreon.com/Donathin/posts

026 human ruffian - paper miniature

Lots of folks want me to make minis for very popular "Lost mine of Phandelver" D&D adventure module. So here  it is, an another mini - HUMAN RUFFIAN from chapter 1 - in 3 slightly different versions.

In my opinion, the character is quite overdetailed. Some tiny details just disappear in my test print. It seems I need to find a perfect balance. I hope you like it.

I am happy of receiving lots of requests from my patrons about designing their own  custom miniature. I am afraid I have not enough time to draw a custom mini for each of you....but that's GREAT idea in general!

That's why I consider addind an another tier (for example 5$)

Once a month I'd make a new post so every patron could send me an idea/short description over there. Then I'd choose random one to design and share for the rest of (5$?) patrons.

I would make only ONE custom miniature a month!

That's only my vague thought, what's your opinion? I can make a poll if necessary.

023 CRICK

No doubt this is the largest miniature I have done so far :D

Crick paper miniature is inspired by Grick - creature of monster manual 5e -page 173

Recently I did some tests with black base, different coins and I figure out that the metal washers available in most construction stores do the job pretty good.

There are lost of different sizes but the standard one is 1 inch - 2,5 centimeter. Perfect size and heavy weight. Look like the metal washers are tailored to our needs. :)

I paid one dollar for about 40 pieces so they are really inexpesive. Probably I will start using them instead of coins. Recommend!

Another Sunday, another miniature. Number 20th! I should celebrate it somehow : D . This time I put a lot of time to make the proper effect of flashing spell. It wasn't easy, but I finally figure out how to make it.

How to make your own paper miniatures - video tutorial

I recorded my own way to make paper miniatures. Nothing professional but maybe it will be helpful for some of you. I also put this movie on the bottom of main page.

Ugh! Done! I hope you like the new background I used on preview. It's a random image of fantasy interior I printed in monochrome.

The next weekend sounds busy. I will try to deliver a new miniature but I guess I won't find a time for test prints.

015 WRAITH paper miniature

Ugh- done! Isn't it funny that it takes me about 10 hours to work on a product which is about one inch tall?    :D

I was working on my new templates and I found I am able to put 3 normal size miniatures on one A6 sheet. And also there are 3 miniatures on a quarter of A4 and Letter size format.

And these amazing tiles were taken from https://www.patreon.com/maphammer

010 skeleton - paper miniature

Finally, I made first opponent - skeleton - in two slightly different versions. Looks good especially in small or larger group. The skeleton design is very detailed, I wanted to check how it works out in print. Well... the photo lab gives you extra quality but it seems some details became hardly visible, for example teeth. The conclusion is there is no need to produce super detailed artwork, just what I do is a good balance.

A few words about the illustrations I use to attach in zip file. I guess it will be easier for me and better for you to release them as a .png with transparent background. That way they can be easier to customize in any graphic app like photoshop, gimp etc... I am opened for suggestions.

008 mage (2 versions)

Ugh... paper miniatures are done. I played a bit with new preview, I feel the new version is sligtly better but still not as good as I wanted to be. Practice makes the master.

I have learned one thing about black outlines. If I make them to thin, there is quite difficult to cut the character out of the sheet. Epecially around the detailed areas - like between the hat and magic lightning bold.

001 necromancer/daemon miniature

Yeah.

I promised to do a test with my first paper miniature template for tabletop games.

Overall I haven't expected to see something so good. The photo lab do it's job really well. I wish I had a better camera, I made all pictures by mobile phone.

There are lots of things do do with my template. Add some dimensions and lines, a short description how to use it, print format (it's standard 10x4inch/15x10cm).  I need to change a website's name ( mypaperhero? - I'll think about something else), and the logo - the current one is just ugly : )

The folding/cutting process took me less than 10 minutes, pretty fast considering I have no much experience.

What I need to get is a thinner marker to cover white edges and smaller knife.

You can download the temptate on attachment, print it on photo lab and try it by your own.

The second template is coming soon : )

How to make your own paper miniatures - photo tutorial

There are 8 small steps:

 1) download the proper template and print it. ( A6,A4 or LETTER )

 2. You will need some basic tools:
- paper knife, scissors or scalpel
- black CD marker,
- a ruler,
- 1 inch metal washer - available in most D.I.Y shops (optional you can use large coin)
- double sided sellotape (optional glue but not recommend it)

 3. Cut along the lines shown on template.

 4. Scratch the surface along the lines to make the paper easier to fold. Don't cut the paper.

 5. Use  double sided sellotape ( optional glue ) to join front and back view together.

 6. Cut the black outlines with paper knife. Join the base to sellotape and make the last cut over there.

 7. Cover white edges with black CD marker. Stick the base with a metal washer or coin. The miniature gets stability and proper weight.

 8. The whole process takes about 10 minutes with a little practice.
