Ok, a couple of folks asked whether I ever take a break from my mad projects, so just to prove it - here's me this weekend in Edinburgh.  Now, the castles in Scotland just aren't as good as in Wales (biased Welshie speaking!!), but they make up for it in cakes.... :)

But seriously, the projects are too much fun - I'm going to give you all a quick update this Friday to walk through some of the upcoming madness!

Sauna Build #4 - Finish and testing.... ;)

This was definitely the best part of the whole build - it did of course need rigorous testing...!

I added hooks for robes, installed the sauna itself and gave it multiple tests... It was, and remains, an amazing build - would highly, highly recommend it for anyone with the opportunity to build. 

Doing it yourself saves a fortune and opens it up to being much more affordable.

Sauna Build #3 - An unexpected side quest....

Ok this sounds silly, but this is a great example of something that I didn't even consider part of the 'build' but ended up being the toughest part of the whole project....

I simply decided I wanted to transplant some bamboo that was growing to create a bit of a screen for the sauna itself and to open up a space in front for the entrance.

Easy enough, huh?

No.   Bamboo roots are like nothing I've ever seen before - they're too fibrous to cut like tree roots and too...

Sauna Build #2 - Construction begins!

Apart from having to work initially in a hailstorm, this was actually pretty smooth and fun - didn't hit too many hurdles!

The main construction
I laid a weed control fabric under everything to ensure I'm not having to dig around under the barrel for the next decade and laid the base frames on top of it.

Once the base frames for the barrel were in place, I lined up the first few planks on top of them.  Then I measured absolutely spot on for straightness - ...

Sauna Build #1 - Concrete Base

Just as a few folks asked for more photos of the Sauna build - I only uploaded a few of these photos to Instagram when I built my Sauna, so I'm uploading loads more here!!  

I'm breaking the build into a series of photos I'll upload separately to keep it manageable!
