The Australians at Poziers, a Through the Mud and Blood Battle report

I am back from Austria and Italy now and ready to start sharing videos again! This is this week's, a game of Through the Mud and the Blood, featuring the Australians attack on Poziers, July 1916. This was an excellent game and really shows what is capable with Mud and Blood and hopefully will give you a different way of looking at First World War wargaming! Anyway, you have your early access before I publicly release this later in the week, so please enjoy!

This Week's Video

Continuing with the the Through the Mud and the Blood kick I am currently on, here is the next scenario from the Stout Hearts and Iron Troopers supplement, 'Clearing a Village' a typical action fought during the 100 Days campaign of 1918 that saw the end of the war. Enjoy the early access to this video, until it goes live at the end of the week!

Through the Mud and the Blood Battle Report and Game Overview

Here is your early access to this week's video, a demonstration of the Too Fat Lardies Through the Mud and the Blood. One of their early rules sets and one that concentrates on the First World War. Kind of a cross between IABSM and Sharp Practice the game is played using cards and Big Men. This scenario is the teaching scenario in Stout Hearts and Iron Troopers (what a great acronym...) and is an attack on a strongpoint by a British platoon.

This week's video and a quick update

This week there is only one video (see below for why) and slight change from my normal stuff, this is a video about painting figures for Zona Alfa (but could be used for moderns as well!). My friend has been banging on a lot about Zona Alfa recently, so I thought I'd shut him up and paint a handful of figures for it! It also proves I don't just paint 15mm either...

In other news, this is the only video this week as I will be working away this week and next, so I am going to limit ...

A Campaign on the Cards

Recently on Twitter there was a discussion led by Nick of the Too Fat Lardies about how wargames and boardgames can interact. I've written a little bit on this here on Patreon, but I'm going to expand on an idea that myself and my mate were also talking about at the same time of the Twitter discussion.

My friend approached me with the idea of a 2021-03-29 14:01:45 +0000 UTC View Post

Caesar Awards 2021

This week has been a bit manic. Normally my Patreons get first sight on videos but with O Group being released and making a couple of AAR videos quickly meant I had to forgo this. However, next week will be back on track. Another event also upset the weekly schedule, I found out I've been nominated in two categories for the Little Wars TV Caesar Awards, one for my 15 minute painting challenge and the other for the fan favourite Youtube channel! I am absolutely over the moon about this and giv...

What can Wargaming Learn from Board Gaming? Part 2

In the previous post we looked at what modern board gaming can teach us wargamers in mixing up our games a little. Playing co-operative games works very well for wargaming and works well for playing differently. However, there are plenty of other ideas we can use that are lifted directly from modern boardgaming....

What can Wargaming Learn from Board Gaming? Part 1

As well as I wargamer, I play a lot of board games. I don't mean the traditional hex and counter type of military themed games that are sometimes called wargames, but the modern style board games that have seen a massive rise in the last decade or so. One of the earliest and probably best known of this new style of game was The Settlers of Catan, a resource management/trading game set on an island with random...

Wargaming in Lockdown Part 2

In the previous post, I wrote about how to kill the boredom of lockdown during this pandemic, one of the main aspects of this I missed was the massive rise we have seen in digital gaming. I'm not talking here about computer or console games (which has seen a massive rise during the lockdowns anyway), but the way in which wargamers have harnessed the internet as a way of playing games.

Most of us will be...

Wargaming in Lockdown

I thought I would start putting down some thoughts on wargaming in general here on Patreon. It will be things that don't really fit on my blog (www.stormofsteelwargaming.com) or my Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNUYwNznn-ZuNMoHoF3urwQ). It will be musing on the hobby and my personal take on things.

In this first one, I'd like to have a think about wargaming in Loc...
