Knowledge is Power

Some subjects I feel dear about are health, clean water, epidemiology, environmental factors, plastics, & the ocean. 💚

Community Health Fair

What’s better than helping a patient? Helping a community. Something I would like to take part in more often is community health fairs. You never know who you will meet & what their health care needs are. Being a nurse it’s important to take every opportunity to educate. On the clock or not 💜

These boys maybe enjoying some fishing, but there is plastic & trash floating all around them 💚

Vanuatu

This country bans certain plastics, but that does not stop them from washing ashore in their country. Truth is... throwing plastic “away” is never “away”. It goes somewhere. An ocean, river, landfill, ditch.... throwing it “away” in the trash can does not make it magically disappear 💚💚💚

Someone has to do it ♻️ Here are some before and after pictures ♻️ I noticed trash has accumulated right next to our boat overnight ♻️ So I picked it up ♻️ And then walked down the dock to see more that accumulates it the rocks ♻️ So I picked it up ♻️ Time wasted? Only 20 minutes, and it made me feel great!!! ♻️ Please don’t walk by trash, take a second, pick it up ♻️

Student days at IUON. Learning health assessment. Taking turns as nurse & patient. Our school was on UMHS campus. University of Medical Health Sciences. Nursing students also got to play the patients for the medical students. This allowed us to learn how to work as a healthcare team 💜

International University of Nursing. Basseterre, St Kitts, West Indies. Yes we rocked the nursing hats. They were taken very seriously. If you did not have your hat, your were not in uniform & not allowed into clinical 💜

♻️🌍♻️What to do between dives on a beach? Clean it up. ♻️ Lots of plastic again, toys, wrappers, tire, cans, bottles, twine, fishing line... all washed up to where we made a shore dive today ♻️ The dive company tries to keep this area clean, but the rubbish keeps washing up♻️🌎♻️

I spent my junior year of nursing school abroad. My most challenging year of college. New culture, limited resources, no AC, birds & lizards in the hospital, paper charting, no internet, lugging around books on tiny buses... it was just not your regular campus & clinical settings. But, this was also the best year of my life & the one I’m most grateful for 💜

💚♻️All I had was 3 plastic bags on me ♻️ But we filled them up walking the beach as the sunset ♻️ I was inspired to clean up today from @worldwideoceancleanup ♻️ Check them out ♻️ What we found was plastic bottles, bags, caps, bits & pieces of broken plastic, styrofoam, to go boxes, flip flops, cans... ♻️ Once again, plastic was the most common ♻️ Please choose an alternative packaging ♻️ Less plastic is key ♻️ Let’s all try to help in a way we can...

♻️🌍♻️I always talk about bringing one of those plastic grocery bags to the beach and cleaning it up. We all have them... it’s ironically a plastic bag, that could be put to use. Well today I did it. And one bag was not enough. After walking about 200 yards this is what I collected. Plastic, glass, tin... there was sadly a little of everything. If everyone did a little, it would be EXPONENTIAL ♻️🌏♻️
