Since Nem(and all Gyre eaters) can sense gyre she gets to go to all the nice places. Its not foolproof though, since distance makes it hard, and a good layering of lead will confound even the most sensitive inspector.

Sunday monster doodle
This one is an arctic couzin of the quill-cat - The Boreal Scythepaw. A large predator, they mostly prey on seals and other amphibious animals. Like Quill-cats they need an aspect of their parent element to grow, so they covet chunks of purest coldest ice which they keep in a pouch located in their thickly furred tails. Over time the ice hardens into unmelting ever-ice, the desire for which is the main source of conflict between these creatures and humans.

Nem was originally meant to be Russian Blue coloured but I always end up gravitating toward a darker shade for some reason

Black Gyre Safety talk with Technical Officer Merri.
Tank-shears like these are one of the few ‘legal’ Gyre machines. Carried by a Scissor-Trooper (usually called a Tuna Man by the rank and file) they are for cutting into machines to get at gyre that needs disposing. A Scissor-Trooper and a Gyre Eater form the core of a disposal team.

After consuming Black Gyre a Gyre eater will experience a short super-human high gaining enhanced strength, speed, incredible regeneration and a burst of violent euphoria (Which is far stronger if the Gyre is awake).
When dosed up even a waifish girl like Nem is a match for any soldier, but due to its addictive and mutative nature Gyre Eaters would only seek to use this in an emergeancy - such as when a routine inspection turns into an attempt to cover up illegal use of the prohibited...
