Hi everyone! I'm about to go see Liquorice Pizza today because I'm considering making a video about it this month (the discourse has been interesting!). I think it might be a good jumping off point to discuss the medium of film and subjectivity - especially as it pertains to the final section of Walter Benjamin's essay, "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction" (he is very wary of film aesthetics and its power to manipulate the viewer). I'll link the essay here for you to read -...

Hey everyone - and welcome new Patrons! I just wanted to do a little roundup of favourite Christmas movies to evoke some holiday spirit on here! (I’m a Hindu but my family is obsessed with Christmas lol). I'd love to hear what you favourite holiday movies are if you have any!
1. A Christmas Story (1983)
I know some people scoff at it because of its blind nostalgia towards “golden age” America - but I just love this movie. I just really enjoy how it sti...

Hey everyone! Please enjoy the December video - it's all about fast fashion, classism, global wealth inequality, and hyper-consumerism! Everything you need to get depressed right before the holidays.
Hope you're all doing well and staying safe <3!

Hello everyone! This is a Q&A video that a few of you asked for - where I answer 5 questions from my lovely patrons, and then a bunch of others from some randos out there (Hannah)! Digressions include: phallic imagery everywhere, and Pete Davidson's future love interests! Apologies for looking a bit beat in this video! It was a long day! Also ignore the paintings in the background lol our livingroom is tacky

Hey guys! I wanted to do a special little semi-holiday-related video where Hannah and I rank all the rom coms we've watched recently based on what kind of sweater they are! Featuring: pita bread, frozen pizza, and my cat Moonie. Hope you enjoy! <3
A pseudo Q&A will be available shortly for all tiers!

I’m not sure if anyone has caught on, what with all the single girl talk happening on here and on my channel, but I have just come out of a pretty big break up. And shockingly enough, this hot mess of a movie was the only I’ve watched (out of 20 odd rom coms) that really resonated with me. How to be Single tells the story of Alice, played by Dakota Johnson, a 20-something recent college graduate who puts her long-term relationship on hold to explore singledom in the big city. Alice, who h...

Hello! Here is my SATC video :)! I'm currently re-recording the footage of myself in the park because, as you'll see, it's super shaky and blurry - but that's the only change that will be made to the final cut! Hope you guys enjoy!

I need to preface here: I am a big Nora Ephron fan. Huge. It’s not often you’ll find a filmmaker who imbues such warmth, innocence, wit, and charm into a film as Ephron does. I will ride for When Harry Met Sally until my dying day, and I can even get behind the mess that is You’ve Got Mail on the basis of ambience alone. Ephron, with her East Coast cynicism, fall leaves, oversized tweeds, and jazz, is a master of ambience. And that’s why I love her! So I am sad to say that Sleepless i...

Hi everyone!
So just an update for you all: I'm still working on the Sex and the City script - really trying to make this one airtight, because I felt my last video was a bit lacking tbh! I am also currently binging a ton of rom coms so I'm gonna be posting a review or two about those (what is UP with Sleepless in Seattle? lol). I am also working on an essay about "Accountability Culture" and why we haven't found the language to critique it yet. And lastly - I am travelling to Mon...

Watching a film that is closely entwined with its source material, without having actually read that source material, is always a tricky experience. In this case, my lack of familiarity with Anne Rice’s gothic horror novel of the same name, may impact this review, as I’m unable to distinguish some elements of book vs. film. Of course, there are purely filmic elements in Interview with the Vampire that can be discussed. The acting is astonishing. Not much can convince me to watch famed nut...

Hi guys! Here's an early preview of my video for October :) The final cut will have music playing throughout the entire vid, as well as names on screen for the Margot Throbbies and Richard Vixons. But other than that - this is what she looks like!
Youtube has also flagged it as "unsafe" for viewers even though I've censored every single element I could think of, so I've submitted a request for manual review.
I hope you enjoy!

There is only one word to describe Death Becomes Her: aggressive. This movie is cranked up to 100, and it's completely unrelentless in this approach. I find that it falls into a category of late 80s/early 90s movies which feature sexy middle-aged heroines of the 70s (Cher, Meryl, Susan Sarandon, Sally Field, Goldie Hawn. etc.) and seem to be overwhelmingly camp in tone. Ironically, Death Becomes Her reads to me as quite a misogynistic movie - two vapid, hopelessly vain and crass women duke it...

For years, the general cultural resentment and cynicism towards Titanic has really bothered me. I grew up watching this movie at my grandma’s house. She, my cousins and I would huddle on her bed and sit transfixed for all three hours of the movie’s runtime. Stifling our tears when the band plays their final song, and awkwardly avoiding each other’s eyes when Kate Winslet poses nude for her portrait, this movie represented a lot of firsts in my life. The familiarity of its scenes - Jack ...

While late capitalism has ushered in an age of endless economic abundance for businesses, it has also made it nearly impossible for them to understand consumers. Algorithms give brands the ability to target their public with hyper-customized advertising. Social media has surfaced a myriad of once underground subcultures for public access. With these possibilities has come an age of hyper-subjectivity, where public interests multiply and shift so rapidly that businesses can no longer target a ...

Big Little Lies is a mood piece. Cliched dialogue and plot contrivances aside, this show wants you to step into a thick, melancholic fog and forget which way you entered. Having watched it twice now, once alone and once with my partner, the mystery is quite obvious at many points throughout the series. In fact, the twist is unsurprising in one breath, and heavily overdone in another. Yet the slow, meandering, and atmospheric path that Big Little Lies creates for its viewers manages to mystify...

Shows like The White Lotus, which present themselves as allegorical of a greater societal problem, tend to leave viewers clamouring to dissect just what exactly the point really is. But with a show that tackles perhaps some of the most macro-scale questions attempted in recent media history; a global, existentialist scale to be exact, it is difficult to know what exactly the point really is. Some have taken away that The White Lotus is a total indictment of its privileged gu...

Hi everyone, and welcome new patrons <3! I have just updated each tier in accordance with my new plan going forward. There are the new additions: the first tier offers a new movie/show review function, the second offers access to Q&As and long-form essays (some of which may turn into future videos), and the third is staying the same plus all the benefits of the first two. All of the tiers also have access to a weekly roundup/newsletter which is still in the works. Please review the tie...

Hi guys! Please enjoy the (slightly) rough cut of my upcoming Love Island video! I say slightly because there were a few missing clips here and there that I need to re-record for the official upload, as well as a couple songs to plug in - but other than that the video reads cohesively.
For those of you who watch it, I want to get your opinion on the title!
Should it be:

At the House of Dior Spring 2018 show, a striped t-shirt reading “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?” debuted on the runway. Lauren Alexis Fisher of Harper's Bazaar writes that “initially, viewers on Twitter (and even some of those attending the actual show) were a little confused by this bold question.” Journalists, freelancers, and bloggers rushed to the defense of Dior’s creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, by clarifying that this message is actually the title of Lind...

There are still a couple revisions to be made on the thesis, but as of now I am set to get my Master's degree in October!
I'm so excited now to finally just focus on the channel and on this Pat...

Hi everyone - and welcome new patrons :^)! As of right now I'm preparing for my defence at the end of the month, which I am absolutely terrified about lol. Essentially, it's a 2 hour session where a panel of experts grill you about your work and you have to "defend" it! I've historically been very scared of oral presentations and this one feels like the final boss, so I'm trying my best to be as on top of it as possible.
Once September hits and I'm (hopefully) free of school, I'm going ...

Hi everyone! Just wanted to share this excerpt from my Point Break script with you! It's completed and just going through a final round of edits. The video is about how Kathryn Bigelow managed to make one of the most testosterone-fuelled action movies of all time distinctly feminine (and homoerotic). It's going to be a bit shorter than the last few vids and in the likeness of a more traditional video essay, because I need this month to ramp up for my defence!
Can you guys think of any i...
