Here he is after a couple days painting and recording. I filled out some areas on Twitch but didn't add any steps. It's been a fun one, a lot of tinkering and moving lights around. Next I'll bring some ink and red reflections into play. Decent!
There will also be a healthy amount of foliage around his feet and I think a few reflected flowers would do well too. Almost there!
Cheers,
-Sam
The model is from Big Child's Echoes of Camelot line.

Forge of the Gods from Mindwork Studio. 2023 is all about the classy pieces and this one is no exception. I painted it up during some private lessons but was unsatisfied with the color of the base. So it sat for months until I snapped it off and made things right again.
This serves as a good example of what a difference one color can make. Now I don't have this thorn in my side, facing me from the cabinet.
Cheers,
-Sam

Sometimes the rain keeps falling, those big drop run into your pockets, mix with your tears, and pull your pants down..In the rain still. It's hard to walk like that.
I flubbed it on this video I intended to make. There are still parts I can salvage and will feature later on.
To learn is to fail, I say to myself.

The recent project I've been working on is coming along quite well. There are a lot of fun things in play, until today.
As you can see from the pictures above, hirtoes alone cannot contain the liquids behind the wall of plasticard.
Ideally I would attach the plasticard with a glue gun but I didnt have the right size of glue for my gun. The full rundown will be in the video I'm working up for this model.
A minor setback and it's my fault for not going in with the right tools....

I may have used that title already in the past, but it's a good one! This has a bit of a tale attached to it.
While chatting it up at Adepticon, Bill (Berzerkerworks) and I came to an arrangement. The deal was one chainmail shirt for one painted figurine. I was surprised that this is all he wanted. So I aim to knock this one out of the park. I also have to make the neck hole larger on the shirt.
I'm not sure if I want a backdrop on it quite yet but he's ready for some primer!

Leviathan mania is sweeping the nation, so much so that it's sold out. But here lies the struggles of one man, grappling with the color yellow and what is expected by the Emperor.
I had a blast painting these new upscaled Terminators. I'm sure the boxed set will have even more to offer. Many visions of painting an army during came to mind while recording this video. I still have them but there is so much else that I also want to paint. Enjoy!

This is getting out of hand.
At first I saw some potential in these spent vape cartridges and wanted to make a small piece, conjure some of that old school energy when you had to get a little more crafty with your scenery. Make a small video, take pictures of my retro orks standing among it. I kept collecting and my array of unwanted things filled a box, then a second box. Thy cup runneth over with such bounty!
But now my scope has changed and I want to play the new edition ...

Leviathan fever is sweeping the nation. Or at least, dwelling on my mind. I'm excited for the new edition and this box gave me a chance to paint some great models. So I dipped in to the Imperial side on the box and painted some yellow ones.
I'll have a full tutorial on these and the basing up this Saturday. Following that, I'll have a video on the Sergeant's head and power sword. I've been busy!
Cheers,

In today's video we will answer the question no one has asked. How do I paint brains, spores, and sacks? I pulled some colors already in use on my army and with simple combinations, created some good effects. Enjoy!
Colors Used:
From Vallejo, Emerald, Black, White, and Deep Yellow.

Leviathan fever is sweeping the net and my studio is no exception.
Recently I got my hands on the Army Painter's full set of Warpaints Air. So I'm giving them a run and picking a lane, after much deliberation, when it comes to what color of space marine. I paint them from time to time and with these air paints I can keep my recipe consistent.
The recipe being a base of Militia Green and Rawhide Brown mixed 50/50, followed by Daemonic Yellow and..Moon Dust, far out B)

Phew, this last month has been FULL of painting. As I was working on the Tyranids from the new starter set, I kept track of the days I made progress on. I'll have some tutorials coming along soon but here I wanted to capture the process of half planning a color scheme and then figuring out the other half as you go. I learned a lot on the planning and recording side of things too. Watch until the end for a start studded celebration. Enjoy!
A big thank you to games Workshop for sending th...

Welcome to a new month! Apologies for the lapse in blog posts, I was at a metal fest on the easy coast over the weekend. It was a very welcome change of pace and activity.
I'm back home and right back at it. Very soon there will be some new videos and I'll be back to the regular updates.
Also, don't forget about the Scrying Pool this Saturday at 1pm central!
Alright, back to prepping! I'll be hosting Jon and Vince during TMX this weekend.

Behold, Uther Pendragon from Big Child Creatives. This model gives me a lot of room to play with sky and earth reflections. And who doesn't love a little dose of Camelot lore? That will be fun to dwell on when I get to this.
It's also a gift for the greatest mod, mod of my life, Turkeygerky. Many thanks for your years of service buddy! We picked this one out at Adepticon together and I'll be happy to see it displayed at your soon to open shop.
More to come on this piece soon. I...

Well look at this lil buggy/buddy.

Back in the day, the early 90's, I vaguely remember having some Micro Machines. These small toy vehicles you could buy packs of. This memory came back to me at random and I started looking on E-Bay to see what was out there. It's wild but I have to speed this up haha. Fast forward and here we are, I have a pack of Micro Machines and an idea.
The vision cam...

It's been a slow rolling process but my retro ork collection has grown. This all started during Orktober 2022 and now I find myself craving more of these classic models.
I'm trying to keep it under control, only painting one at a time and not buying another until the rest are painted. There is always something to paint but these take me back and bring up a lot of fond memories. The scheme is based on the one I created when I was about 8 years old. So now that I'm that plus 30, it's be...

Something new for both me and my Student, Francis. It's been coming along slowly as we meet once a month but it's getting close. A bit of a struggle a points but each obstacle was overcome. Similar to the Imperial Guard diorama I'm working on, this requires a lot of control over what it warm and what is cold.

Please submit a few pictures of a single model by the mentioned date and I'll take a look at it live. There is a section in the Discord called the Scrying Pool where you can post your work in progress.
You may have noticed the May event is scheduled for the first weekend in June. I'll be i...

A real beauty from Mindwork Studios. This was painted up during some private lessons and the finishing touches added a little later. It serves as a good example of controlling the volume of shadow. I have mixed feelings about the base, I don't mind it but also wonder what it would change if I had painted a more realistic color of stone...Still might change that.
Cheers!

I'm still pondering a good title for this one. Into the fire, into the jaws, for victory, I have a concept in mind. Something that makes you think and forget you're being ambushed. But that deadline doesn't come until the last day!

It's been a good run, all the painting has been done on stream and I'm 9 hours in by that measure. Controlling the temperatures in such a way is new to me so it's a ...

Hails and cheers, chromatic traveler. Here lies in digital record, the creation of the great wizard Merlin. I was aiming to create a video on ambient light but also a certain effect that's been on my mind. This was the first attempt at these types of reflections and I'm happy with the results, but also keeping my mind open to possibility of adding this effect again in the future.. But what a gorgeous model from Nocturna Miniatures, a very druidic take on him that draws visions of chlorine/ens...

This was a cute project I've had sitting half finished for years, about 8 if I can remember correctly... It's a fun figure from Hasslefree Miniatures, who make a wide variety of pewter characters. I added the antennas myself, it was made some time ago but there was some kind of metaphor in there about people being plentiful and love a distant thing. Love being a green alien who happens to be attractive to humans haha.
It's always a nice change to paint something without a weapon and I...

Recently I went for deep dive in my hall of potential, the one in the basement. My stores runneth over, the sign of a prosperous house. I was down there looking for some older Ork sculpts from the early days, more on that later.
While I was digging, I came across this sculpt from Nocturna Models and who am I to deny the wizard's call? This model was also a gift from Vince which adds an extra layer of fun.

A big thank you to everyone who joined in last Saturday! Things were off to a bumpy start, I expected that, but above is the video with the bumpy start cut out.
This was a fun time! We'll be doing it again on Saturday, June 3rd, at 12:00pm. I'll have a new event scheduled soon. The goal is to stream these on the last Saturday on every month, this month I'll be at Hell in the Harbor in Baltimore, so I've pushed it back a weekend.
Cheers!
