Pulse 406 WIP 1

The start of Mira's story in this chapter.  You know she really hasn't been in the comic all that much.  She appeared in the chapter about the cafeteria and fought Tabitha, she appear broken and unconscious in the chapter about Annie moving back in with Lucy, and then she appeared in the chapter the ended with her head being stolen.

You also saw her being mind-controlled and fighting the group, but that wasn't really her.

A Day Off No Matter What page 16 WIP 2

A little behind on this.  I had some of this done before, but was waiting to post a WIP.

The Gamemaster

I asked for suggestions on Twitter for words on a tshirt and then I'd pick who was drawn and whatever else.  "Fairy Game Master" was selected, which it seems relates to a gamemaster for Dungeons and Dragons and similar games.

Tabitha seemed like an obvious choice.  It would be a way for her to be in control, but she'd also be fair.  She'd be creative and clever, and entertaining.  I could see her making different voices for different characters and situations.

The Story Told Twice

My picture for the 10th and 20th Anniversary of Pulse.  It's a remake of the cover to the year 2000 original Pulse webcomic.

My attempts to make larger versions of the older comics keep running into roadblocks.  These are just the original small web versions from 20 years ago off of a backup of the old site from 2004.

Last page of this scene.  I wanted Zoe to seem a little crazy, but it's possible she can be more than a troublemaker.

Next we jump to Mira for a few pages, and then to Annie, maybe to Tabitha then too, there's different scenes for each of them, and how I order them depends on which one is where.  There's seven pages left to this chapter.

A little more drawing, then color and lettering.

I have to check in the first panel what other tables should be between them and the wall, and on panel 5 how far the windows went up.  I think above the horizontal bar was covered, not windows.

Spoiler from Batman (who has been Robin and Batgirl at one point, unless the New 52 reboot erased that?).

Something seems off about it, but I'm not sure what.  Maybe fresh eyes will help.

I tried to make her more busty than the what I'd draw as the average superhero.  As artists change back and forth on print comics, characters rarely ever keep anything unique physically about themselves, but at one point she was depicted as being busty.

I worry my handwriting isn't super easy to read...  I need to add a joke into the last panel.  This is the last page of this scene, and then it moves to Mira.

I thought logically Dr. Mae would have a lot of middle-aged superhero suitors.  She's attractive, still looks pretty young, and could stay married to a superhero husband.

Lucy as Kim Possible WIP

I couldn't think of a cute phrase for the title.  It's been so long since I've seen Kim Possible I can't remember any of the slogans.

I used the pose from official KP art for Lucy, but with a completely different background.  Ron was in the original picture, and I couldn't decide who that would be exactly.  So I thought it could be someone from Pulse dressed as Shego instead.  Annie seemed too obvious, so it might be Mira and Arim both as Shego.

I've got one strip before Max's sister is introduced, I'm trying to decide what it should be about-- or what it should explain while it's just two characters.  It might be about Max game streaming, but it also could be about Ben, or about her job.

Materia Enhanced IV, pages 1-9 (2019-)

This is as much of the comic as I've made.  There's about 2-3 more pages for this section.  I know where it's going, I just need to rotate back to this.

I tried to keep the systems, games, and controllers look slightly generic, but also to look like specific items.

She's sitting in the chair a little weirdly in the second panel, but maybe she's sliding into place?

Pulse 404

For Zoe to ever appear again in the story, she has to either become a villain or some kind of ally.  She just seems troubled, not evil, so an usual ally seemed more likely.

One more page or so here, then off to bring Mira back in the story (who has been turned off for almost 200 pages), then to Annie to wrap up the (12-page) chapter (which ends with page 412).

I think the next chapter will be jointly about Mira and Evilyn, and Annie trying to upgrade her suit.

My handwriting might be a little hard to read, but I feel like it's a simpler process than trying to start with lettering?  This is more like what I used to do when I made comics by hand.  My handwriting is a little bigger than the final lettering, so I know I'll have a little extra space.

Materia Enhanced III (2017-2018)

The third part of the story (that first post of the comic was two parts together).  Also included is the WIP of a page I didn't end up using.

I thought that I can't have Tifa not be the biggest, so she had to grow.  I think the virus story might have over-complicated things a little here.  I got stuck at a certain point and had to ask several people for advice.

Materia Enhanced I & II (2015)

This started with just the first image on Tumblr.  Someone requested "busty Yuffie", and I drew the one picture.  It was popular enough I made it into a little Tumblr comic.  There's more to this, but it becomes a normal format comic.

There's also two WIPs I didn't end up using.  In one it's a different last panel.  In the other, I had planned to have Rikku first appear with a new possible canon outfit, just like Yuffie.  I didn't show that outfit here, but...

I'm trying to make Grace and Zoe more connected to the main cast, and make Zoe a little more of an ally.  Charlotte seemed like the best choice, considering she didn't fight her, and she seems like the type to try to make friends with anyone.

I need to reconsidered the text in panel 3, and finish the lettering in a few pages.

Also review the art for mistakes, and add in some extra shading layers- one that adds shading to areas of the background, one that adds a slight white layer in the direction of light, and one slight blue layer in the direction of shadows.

Katie comments she needs to call Shadowcast, Chimera's other teammate.  Then Grace, who is asleep embraces her.  Zoe tries to sneak away, but Charlotte grabs her and offers her something to eat.

I thought that I needed to sort of turn around Zoe a bit into less of a problem.  Charlotte seems like the type to try to make friends with anyone.  She's this tall girl who I think would go out of her way to not seem scary.

I think I need to change things around slightly.  The introduction of Max's sister might be a page or two later.  I think in this beginning introduction I need to show her as a game streamer.

I've never really watched game streamers, but the limited perspective I have is that they usually seem to be super-imposed over the game on one side.  I figure she's one of those bikini streamers.  Which should be entertaining when Sasha joins her, and when they are both growing...
