Ch239. Wheee!

"Huh, so you are our reinforcements from Iwa?" Big G offhandedly asked as Sasori and Deidara stopped next to them, accidentally painting a clearer picture of the reason for this ambush to Ren.

For Kumo, he was most likely the main target. It was personal for them. But Iwa, they definitely did not care enough about him in particular. In which case, this was about the Suna-Konoha alliance. Killing him and Temari would not outright destroy it, but it would weaken it.

"You don't look ...

Ch238. A burden

As Ren finished speaking, Baki quickly spoke in a hushed tone, mostly to Temari and Kankuro. "They are all Elite Jonin from Kumo. The black man to the left with the small afro is called F. He has a Lightning Nin-taijutsu specialty, and he can electrify you with every touch. The smoking man with dreadlocks to the right is called Big G. A genjutsu specialist. His techniques use mostly smell. Beware of scented smoke. The man in the middle-"

Ch237. Unexpected storm

Trigger warning: Rape. I'll try to get through it briefly, and the MC will stop it quickly, but it is in the chapter, hence the warning.

...

Arriving near the village, Ren quickly flickered to the roof of a house facing the area where most of the bandits were gathered. Concealing his presence, Ren quickly assessed the situation, only to sniff in distaste.

The situation was... as expected. It was nothing unusual as far as the standards of bandit attacks went in this world. View Post

Ch236. A quiet before the storm

"Are you done yet?" Kankuro asked, annoyed out of his mind as he watched Ren bent over the edge of the fast-flowing river, fiddling with some seal or something. He didn't fully understand what the man was doing, and frankly, he didn't care.

What he did care about was that the irritating little shit was delaying their return to Suna. Again.

They were in some mountainous region in the Land of Rivers that was nowhere even remotely near their normal route back to Suna, because the pri...

Ch235. Things are looking up!

After leaving Konoha, Ren and his Suna tag-alongs did not rush. They ninja-hopped leisurely. It was a big difference.

If they were rushing, they could get to Suna in three days, just like Naruto did in canon. But at their pace, it was going to take them five days, maybe even an entire week of travel. And that was, too, much faster than the normal speed of civilian travel.

At the end of the first day, they were only halfway to the Land of Fire Borders, heading toward a small town t...

Ch234. Leaving Konoha

After Temari finally relented, Ren was dragged off by the excited Ino and Hinata right after they left Temari in the guest room next to their bedroom.

The following morning was a quiet affair. And a very awkward one for Ren, Hinata, and Temari. Ren had activated the soundproofing seal in their bedroom before they got wild yesterday. But sometimes during their fun, while Ren was too preoccupied with mewling Hinata to notice, Ino got it into her head to... turn it off.

Let's just sa...

Ch233. The wedding... evening 2

The board games sucked.

Playing with two cheating cheater females who cheat was one thing. Playing with three cheating cheater females who cheat that also teamed up on him was quite another, in Ren's opinion.

At least they were equal opportunity cheaters, too, and in some rounds, he teamed up with the other two against Hinata. Or against Ino. Or mostly against Temari, who always vehemently complained about stupid Konohan unity, but the smile had never slid off her face, even when ...

Ch232. The house

After Temari's little shock, where her tolerance for bullshit finally hit the critical mass, and after a small freak-out, Ren had the impression that part of her simply gave up and stopped giving a shit as she accepted this new reality. He nevertheless managed to usher her into the house, where they spent their evening.

They showed Temari the house, and with every room, Ren had to put more effort into hiding his rising mirth as Temari looked increasingly more shell-shocked as she listen...

Ch231. The wedding... evening

The ensuing wedding was almost disappointingly normal. Well, as normal as a wedding inside an arena with thousands of people watching could be.

Ren almost expected something to happen. Somebody to interrupt or attack. If only in an attempt to ruin the alliance between Suna and Konoha. He had his senses on the highest alert throughout the entire event, but... he didn't know if he should feel disappointed or happy when nothing happened. His emotions were a strange mix of both that made hi...

Ch230. A small adjustment

"Take a deep breath. It will help you calm down." Ren said, standing next to Temari, who was anxiously fidgeting to an adorable level. They stood in the waiting room in the repaired arena where the Chunin Exams were held. It was the same room where the contestants waited for their matches just a few weeks ago, but the circumstances were vastly different.

Today... was his and Temari's wedding.

Because it signified the joining of their two villages in an alliance, neither the ...

Ch229. The Hyuga trials

As Hiruzen rushed through the village, he reached the Hyuga compound quickly in his hurry. He almost didn't stop at the gate, but some last remnants of sense managed to stop him before he committed a faux pas to end all faux pases.

That would not go well if he entered the supposed 'trials' while being chased by the Hyuga gate guards.

Surprisingly, the gate guards did not make too much, or any, really, trouble for him. It was strange because, as far as he knew, Hyugas were defined ...

Ch228. A good night for a change

"Stop giggling, we still have a job to do today." Ren groaned as he ushered the two girls back into his apartment, but he only managed to make them double down on their wordless teasing, much to his silent aggravation.

With laughter, the two girls ran back inside, causing him to follow with a small, fond smile. Unfortunately, they had a long night in front of them, and that meant Ren could not indulge in inane childishness. They still had work to do.

In a short order and wit...

Ch227. The pillow fight

The pillow fight went on for hours, and Ren found himself very much at a disadvantage when Ino, Hinata, and Temari decided to gang up on him in the name of girl power.

It was blatant cheating. He didn't condone cheating. He decided to use his seals in return.

That evened the odds, and he had managed to get some pretty nice pillow shots to all three of his opponents' faces. But then Ino got the bright idea to enhance her pillows with wind chakra, giving them a speed boost with a li...

Ch226. Conversation in private

"Thank you for the food." Temari said in a subdued tone as they finished the dinner, causing Ren's inward frown to grow. He had expected her to be much, much more snarky and confident today, but she was oddly acting out of her usual norm.

Hinata stood up, intending to carry the empty plates to the kitchen, and as she was taking Temari's plate, the girl practically oozed discomfort. She tensed up as Hinata came closer and her eyes subconsciously followed her actions with deep warriness.&...

Ch225. Temari's trouble

The door closed with an audible click, and Kankuro raised his head, face almost painfully scrunched, from the multitude of stressfully confusing documents strewn all over the table, only to see that his sister had come back to the hotel.

He was a bit surprised at that.

"Huh. I didn't expect you to return tonight." He idly muttered with an unreadable expression, but the resigned distaste in his tone was unmistakable to Temari, who gave him what she hoped was a reassuring grin back....

Ch224. Hiruzen's musings

Hiruzen Sarutobi fell into an armchair in his office, tired but also feeling oddly invigorated from deep satisfaction at the same time. The day was exhausting, but it was so worth it.

The alliance was signed. The negotiations finished. The terms... were acceptable. Konoha would lose some, for sure. But that was okay. It was a small price to pay for their western flank to be secure again. The Second War had certainly taught them that the West was their weakness. In rivers of blood of the...

Ch223. I was born for this.

Ren flopped onto a couch with an audible groan, feeling exhausted as Temari sat down opposite him, all prim and proper, looking as if the endless meetings did not affect her.

They had just spent the last few hours in the council chambers, where the movers and shakers of Konoha argued mostly about barely important details.

Who the heck cared if the decoration on their wedding would follow Konoha or Suna tradition? Couldn't they do freaking both!?

Haaa~. Ren stifled a grunt. View Post

Ch222. Welcome to Konoha

Ren not-very-subtly looked around with a slight sense of exasperation filling his chest as he and several other very important Konoha dignitaries were standing in the fairly large area near Konoha's gate, waiting for the Sunagakure delegation to arrive.

He inwardly grumbled at how tight and scratchy the ceremonial kimono Hiruzen insisted he wear was. But he didn't want to go through the whole song and dance of complaining and getting lectured again.

Ch221. Danzo's schemes

"Good morning."

Ren heard Ino mumble as she entered the kitchen in his apartment with a big yawn and her right hand stuck under her pajama top, groggily rubbing her belly. She blearily looked around until she located a kettle full of coffee. Briefly stopping, Ino suddenly hastened her steps as if the coffee was a magnet pulling her to itself.

"Morning." Ren mumbled even as his focus stayed on scribbling something onto a scroll with the tip of his tongue sticking out of his l...

Ino finally relaxed her focus, her arms freely falling next to her body as she let out a long breath. Preparing for the assault on Danzo's base was not easy.

Even just the first stage required over thirty shadow clones of Ino, Ren, and Hinata each. They didn't have that much time for preparation either, so they had to create as many clones as their chakra allowed them, put these in stasis seals, feed on a soldier pill, and squeeze out one more clone they could send to work in their stead before they had to rest for a day, feeling absolutely miserable and exhausted. Ch216. Rooting out an issue 1

In a dark tunnel deep underneath Konoha, two men wearing blank ANBU masks stood at attention a few meters apart, while guarding a door leading deeper into the underground facility.

They stood motionless, like statues, but while their standard-issue tanto swords were sheathed on their backs, they both were prepared for any eventuality. Their chakra was tense and ready to be shaped into an attack at a moment's notice.

They were well-trained, good ninjas.
