Daily-ish posts or a weekly digest?

I'm not sure if you guys have a very strong preference. I can see daily emails being kind of a pain. Maybe you'd rather get everything in one big weekly post?

Thanks to your patronage I was able to splurge on some books. The Bosch my roommate picked out for the general hilarity. Beatrix Potter has some really fabulous old-school illustration and Ansel Adams' composition with photography is just  !!!!???!?!?!  UGH! AMAZING!!!!! I'm hoping to soak up some of those good art smarts

More patreon sketches

It occurred to me that I can, and should, show my various levels of sketching, so I'm going to start separating out the layers. You can see how I make forms and tinker with shapes. They aren't perfect, but I find different stages of work very interesting.

The first one is for Nekot. Just some warm-up stuff plus a series of different styles from more game style, to my wolf style, to something more like Nekot's drawings.

They turned out a little mediocre (was just not having a good brain day) so I'm going to do over/ do new ones.

I'm learning to just accept those really poor art days as inevitable and not something to get all excited and upset over.  A little late in life, but there it is :P 

Some dragon doodles

I got stuck at the car doctor for pretty much an entire workday today so I went to the Walgreens next door and got a crappy sketchbook and ballpoints. Along with some terrible pokemon drawings I made this page of dragon sketches.

Two new compositions

Ugh these look so simple but they take me such a long time. :x 

A diagonal (which is really more of an angle) and another radial, because they're my favorite. I love fallow fields. I could probably spend the rest of my life painting them if like.. there were a market for fallow fields.

L composition idea

Just working my way through some of the common compositions. Once again, the rough version is very mushy and unclear. I'd need to really smartly block out color and shape before I try to get into it. Which I will attempt to do so more better than I usually do :P 

What the deal is with my cat (for those interested)

My poor elderly baby has been having digestive issues for a while. The vets gave several pieces of advice, to no avail, and she just kept getting thinner and thinner with a lot of mushy poop.

At last we found out ZD helps firm things up but it firmed things up TOO much and she had a big constipation crash with green bile pukes. I had to take her to the emergency vet.

They suggested abdominal ultrasound to determine if it was either food allergy, IBS or small-cell lymphoma. Rig...

Back to working on composition

Three stages right now.

I'm working through some common compositions, starting with the S. It's one of my favs. I like that it sweeps back into the environment.

At stage one I just sketch out an idea. It's pretty rough and kind of messy. I used to work directly off of this and, big surprise, I'd get confused and make something incoherent.

Two WIPs

Lordy, my roommate and I spent most of today installing a trailer hitch on our car (for a bike rack). It was supposed to take an hour but took more like six T_T  

So I have made headway on commissions but not as much as I'd have liked. Here's the result.

It's been a rough couple of days. My elderly cat's health is up and down and like, everything dies, but it's still hard not to worry about what to do. She's getting an ultrasound on her abdomen today to see if she's got small-cell lymphoma or IBS or a lump, or an allergy, or what. She hasn't been eating so I'm going to try begging them for an appetite stimulant while we try to figure out treatment.

The thumbnail of the dragon I think I'm going to pursue. A lot of the time I get all muddled and in this instance it seems like I've managed to keep things relatively simple.

Some tiny compositions

I jotted down some ideas in gouache. They certainly could be clearer, but sometimes the medium is fighty ( gouache can be hard to bring back up lighter after it's been darkened ) and they are also QUITE small, so I'm going to fiddle with these digitally to make them better.

It may be something I need to return to again after study sessions.
