IMPORTANT UPDATE

Hey, so a few hours ago, I posted about how I wasn't gonna charge you guys for anything this month because I didn't want to make it a habit of charging for early drafts of a video instead of the finished thing. The reason I could comfortably say that is because I was expecting money from a previous brand deal to finally arrive. Unfortunately, I was informed by my manager that the money still isn't gonna arrive, which means I don't have any money this month for rent, bills, food, etc.

So now I ...

[EXCLUSIVE] Interview w/ Anna Rothschild from Gross Science & Anna’s Science Magic Show Hooray!

Apologies for the audio quality. I panicked.

This isn't for anything NerdSync related, but I figured I'd share it with you nerds as an EXCLUSIVE! Ooooh! You know it's important because I put it in all caps!

[PREVIEW] X-Men: The Animated Series REJECTED OPENING

Here's a sneak preview of a part of the next video! Before the iconic theme song we know today, the creative team behind X-Men: The Animated Series kicked around the idea of a narrated intro. Here's showrunner Eric Lewald's proposed script read by the always excellent Olly Thorn!

[POLL] Patreon Exclusive Live Streams?

Hey, whoa, look out! Another poll is coming at you!

So, I keep forgetting that Patreon has a built-in way to do live streams, and I think it'd be fun to do a monthly Patreon-exclusive stream with you all! Probably not like 3-hours long, or anything like that, haha. But it would be a neat way to connect with you all and chill for a bit. Plus, since it's a live stream, it wouldn't require much effort for me to do each month. Just a block of time to go live. Shouldn't take away from working on ne...

[POLL] Bring back shorter videos?

Hey, everyone! I've been slacking on the polls this month. Many of you know that I've been traveling AND sick, which is not a productive combo.

Anyway, as our videos have been getting longer and more elaborate, I've been wondering if you guys miss the shorter videos like Tie-Ins or other short-format vids. Occasionally, I'll have ideas for shorter videos that don't need 20 minutes to explain, but I don't know if something that only takes a few minutes to explain is worth doing. I'll let you de...

Here's the link to the monthly twitter shoutout where I mispronounce all your names yet again! Sorry it took so long to do this month. I got sick, but I didn't want to delay it any longer.

[NEW VIDEO] Making Captain America: The Science of Super Soldiers

Took me longer than expected, but it's finally out! I'm really proud of this one. I think it's a ton of fun! If you like it, leave a comment and/or share it around! I'd appreciate it a lot!

Sorry for not posting so much. As we discussed last week, I already charged for this video, so I won't be charging again, obviously, haha. Thanks, gang!

Ever since Captain America debuted in Marvel Comics, scientists have been getting closer and closer to creating real-life super soldiers. With th...

I know I only made one video last month, but I appreciate the support regardless! Look forward to a new video in the next 1-2 days!

[PREVIEW] Making Captain America: The Science of Super Soldiers

Since a large majority of you don't mind me charging early for this video, here's a preview of the first 3 minutes!

BUT, if you didn't want to be charged, you can message me and I think I can issue a refund. I've never done it before, but I think Patreon gives you that option. So, no harm done (hopefully).

[IMPORTANT] Would you mind me charging you early?

Hey, real serious question for everyone. Be completely honest, would you mind me charging for the new Captain America video right now so I have some money to pay rent next month? I won't charge you when it actually comes out in 2-3 days, I'm just in a bit of a rough spot with the timing of this video. I'm waiting on some animations and a sponsor's approval.

If you have questions or concerns, let me know in the comments.

UPDATE: I believe I can issue refunds to anyone who...

[POLL] Do you follow NerdSync on other platforms?

So this poll is gonna be more about information gathering for us. I wanna know which platforms you follow NerdSync on, and which one use the most to learn about new uploads and updates?

Once we have a good idea of where you guys are, we can put more time and energy into those platforms! (But not too much that it distracts from new videos)

I'm also curious to see how many people use the bell notification on YouTube.

Which platform(s) do you use the MOST to keep up with n...

[POLL] Would you like to see more on NerdSync Gaming?

If you didn't know, we have a Twitch account where we (mostly Bryce) occasionally stream some gaming. I play games a bit, but mostly just quietly... alone... with two cats.

As a Content Creator™️ I am supposed to turn everything I do while I'm alive into  C O N T E N T, so would you guys be interested in seeing us stream more games on a more regular basis?

It probably wouldn't be anything super-produced. It would simply be myself, Bryce, and Chris playing some games with each ot...

[POLL] Do you wanna see rough cuts of videos?

More polls! Hell yeah!

So, I know that something a lot of YouTubers with Patreon pages do is offer early access to videos a day or so before it goes public on YouTube. However, that's not really an option for me since I'm usually finishing videos late.

BUT

I can definitely export a rough cut of the video (no music, sound effects, and lots of missing visuals) for you patrons, if that's something you'd like to see.

I know some people only want to watch the video after it'...

READ OUR BOOK NOW!

Hey, you wonderful nerds! In case you didn't know, I've been working on a book with my friend Chris for a LOOOOOONG time now. It's a book version of our REAL Origins videos, going into the real-world history behind how iconic superheroes and villains were created!

If you follow NerdSync on twitter, you may have seen the exciting news that the first draft of the book has been submitted for review. What does this mean? Idk. There's still loads of work to do on the book. I just sent it in to see ...

[POLL] Return of Tales From the Comments?

I kinda miss doing Tales From the Comments, but I don't know if they fit on the main channel anymore. They don't get a lot of views, and that can negatively affect the channel overall.

So I was thinking about doing a regular live stream on the Sidekick channel after new videos are posted on the main channel. Answer questions, go over comments, hang out and talk. A more relaxed version of Tales.

Alternatively, we could make it like we have been, shorter and more edited so it's easier to w...

[AUDIO UPDATE] Best VidCon, Worst Month...

I'm gonna make this audio update available for all Patrons because I wanna give my thanks to you all! It's a long one, but I think the message from 13:30 - 19:30 is important to hear. It's just a big ole THANK YOU, but in maybe a too depressing way??

Idk, thanks for helping me do this YouTube thing. I appreciate it!

What I learned from last month's polls

Last month, I posted a few polls here asking questions about your experience supporting NerdSync on Patreon. We talked about your current rewards, the Patreon Lens feature, and monthly recap emails, but the overwhelming theme I kept seeing in the comments was that doing additional stuff here on Patreon would be nice, but most of you just wanna see me make more videos on YouTube.

Gotta say, I wasn't expecting this reaction. In my head, I keep thinking that the videos alone aren't nearl...

THANK YOU!!!

Another month has gone by, and I want to say thanks for all the support! Even though I only posted one video last month, it was a monster video at over 20 minutes long. I couldn't have had the ability to devote so much time and effort to that video if it weren't for you wonderful nerds!

Here's hoping I post at least two videos this month, haha!

Ant-Man in Wonderland: Marvel Through the Looking Glass

I have another idea for an Ant-Man video that I might do as well. Let me know if you'd be interested!

As I was rewatching Ant-Man to prepare my body for Ant-Man and the Wasp, I noticed a few similarities between Marvel's tiny hero and Lewis Carroll's classic book 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. They both feature size-changing protagonists who fall down holes of curious discovery to new and interesting worlds: Alice in Wonderland, Hank Pym in the Marvel Comics, and Scott Lang in the MCU...

[POLL] Monthly NerdSync recap emails?

Another weekly poll for you Wonderful Nerds!

Some of you may recall that NerdSync used to have a newsletter called the Sunday Sync-Up where we sent out an email every other week recapping videos and podcasts that fans may have missed. Obviously we don't make nearly as many videos or podcasts these days, so the newsletter kind of fell to the wayside.

But since NerdSync has a wildly inconsistent posting schedule now, maybe it would be beneficial to revive the newsletter as a monthly recap ...

[NEW VIDEO] The Incredibles: The Art of Supervillain Monologues

This video took so long to make. I hope you like it!

Pixar's The Incredibles pokes fun at comic book superhero tropes like capes, costumes, and, of course, how a supervillain will stop in his tracks to monologue at the hero for no discernible reason. Why do villains do this? Let's analyze the history and narrative function of the supervillain monologue throughout comics and movies to explain why Syndrome's speech towards Mr. Incredible is actually a brilliant creative tool!

[POLL] Do you use Patreon Lens? Should I?

Got another poll for you this week as we tweak how we can serve you Wonderful Patrons!

This is another simple one. Patreon has a feature called Lens which is basically like Snapchat or Instagram stories for creators that are only accessible to Patrons like you through the Patreon mobile app. I, frankly, don't upload stuff to it often, but I will gladly use it more if you nerds are interested in seeing daily behind-the-scenes photos and videos.

So, let me know: Should I be updatin...

Meet me for breakfast during VidCon?

Hey, gang! I'm headed to VidCon in Anaheim, CA next week, and I'd love to see you there!

If you're going to VidCon during the 21st - 23rd (or if you just so happen to be in the area), let me know in the comments here or on Discord so we can plan some kind of meet up that revolves around breakfast foods!

Why breakfast? Well, VidCon usually has events and parties all during the day and night, so the morning is probably the best time for all of us to get together. If we have a big enough gr...

This one is a big question with (hopefully) a simple answer.

Hey, you Wonderful Nerds! Scott here.

I want to start posting more updates directly to Patreon in addition to our Discord server. I want to get you more involved and updated about new videos and projects we're working on, and get your feedback on things. [INTERVIEW] The Science & Ethics of Captain America w/ E. Paul Zehr, PhD

Hey, gang! This is a little interview I did with the author of Chasing Captain America, E. Paul Zehr, PhD.

The book is about the science, engineering, and biotechnology in of building real-life super soldiers. It's super fun, and I plan on making a video about it someday, so I called him up to talk about it! I hope you enjoy my awkward interview "skills".
