(More snapshots at the end...)
Big changes are coming to the world of WisteriA!
I haven't actually been working too much on storyboards lately... I started them the other day (I did three pages that day to get the process jump-started a little) and have been making steady progress since. I'm tossing my usual 8-page thing in favor of "however many pages I need to tell this story," so it's going to be a long one again. Not to overwork myself though, I'm still probably going to stick to 2 pages/week, so chapter 7 (and subsequent ones, most likely) will run longer than a month each. My workload might change someday if I can speed it up, but this is okay for now.
I have a few more screenshots! Once again trying not to give away too much, but I've got to show off a new character, at least.

Go to her...!!
So like, this page took a while to draw even though there isn't much on it. The main reason was Mari's face there, with nothing much but her expression for the reader to look at. Because of that, I figured it had to be just right and spent a good deal of time trying things out, stepping back to take a look, changing little details here and there, and eventually settling on this. I can only hope that it worked out.

Linnaea is home now. It's rare for her to be alone at this time of day...

An unsettling absence. But it's not Yaya's fault!
I had this small segment with Yaya planned for a long time before I even started making the storyboard, so I was glad to finally draw it.

Chapter six, page two. The plot thickens already...
2019-04-02 17:00:00 +0000 UTC View Post
Chapter 6! It is entitled "Bonds".
As announced, the new posting format follows a more spaced-out early access model, so this is just the first page. At the time of writing this, it's only accessible by $5+ patrons until it goes public on April 2nd. On April 2nd, page two will be published in early access and go public on April 5th. And so on!
Based on that schedule, this post is actually going up a bit late (it should have been last Friday the 29th), but things should be on track starting with the next one. I hope you'll look forward to it!
About the chapter itself: I've mentioned before that it's a Linn chapter, so it shouldn't be surprising that the first page (almost) entirely features her. What will happen?

Hello! If you're reading this, then I'm already... starting to work on chapter 7 of WisteriA. The fifth chapter just finished and chapter 6 is starting real soon on April 2nd!
Onto the topic at hand. I decided to push a couple of small changes to the rewards structure. The first change concerns $1+ tier material, namely WIP snapshots that I regularly post here on Patreon. Starting with chapter 6, WIP posts will now become public upon the release of the chapter they're associated with. The number of these posts that I make per month varies, but $1+ patrons will get them all ahead of time throughout the month as I'm working on the next chapter to be published.
The second change concerns $5+ material. The $5 reward so far has been a full-chapter post on the day the chapter begins publishing normally. Starting with chapter 6, I'll be posting the pages here on Patreon following the ordinary schedule (Tuesdays and Fridays at 1:00PM EST), except one page in advance. In other words, the $5 reward becomes 3-4 day early access to all new pages.
These changes both have a main goal of populating my Patreon page with more public content so that visitors don't get just a big wall of locked posts (while maintaining the value of your pledge, of course). It also has the side effect of giving me a bit of extra time to finish off chapters if I need it. Ideally I shouldn't, but it's just in case.
Hopefully that all makes sense. In summary, nothing's really changing in terms of the content, just when it's delivered. I hope you continue to enjoy the comic!

One of the last WIPs before the chapter begins... it's just about done right now. I just have a couple of insert drawings to make.
"But wait, isn't that kind of a lot left—"
I hope you look forward to the chapter! It's the longest one yet by a few pages.

Chapter 5!! It feels like they're really coming along.
This one is coming out a bit later than I planned since it took a while to make... lots of backgrounds, lots of drawings, and then also some last minute fiddling with dialogue and composition. I think I'm happy enough with it to publish it, and I hope I've managed to get everything I wanted to say with it across.
Page 1 is up there and the rest is below. Thanks for the support and enjoy!

Almost. This chapter is sooo packedd
But I think it looks the best the comic has ever looked, at least. I hope I managed to say everything I wanted to with this chapter. I'm leaving this post public as a special treat of some kind...
It's just tones on the last page left! And a couple of small panels. And one insert drawing. The chapter releases on Tuesday the 5th! The $5 tier reward will also be released that day.
And I know it's three days into March already, but I'd like to thank everyone for another month of Patreon support. Thanks!

It's February, which means it's time for the whole chapter 4! Thanks to the Patrons who've supported the comic for another month.
This chapter is once again a bit of an evolution in terms of the drawings and direction and everything... but I'm slowly settling on something. Enjoy!

My non-WisteriA drawings since the beginning of the year have been like 90% Eupho drawings, which is okay.
Had a bit of reference for this one. It's fascinating how much it helps ground the illustration even when you're not following the perspective or style of the original ref...

Hi hi
Well, I've been slacking on WisteriA work a little. It's calculated slacking, mind, meaning I've still left myself enough time to finish the chapter by the month's end. ( ´∀`)b
This is some WIP for a different mini-project. It's a contest drawing. It has to be finished and submitted by January 20 (JST), so you'll be seeing the finished version soon!
I do have some unreleased WisteriA WIP snapshots though, so I'll just throw them into a post right after this.

I'm making actual progress though, don't worry.

Third chapter!
This chapter brings some changes both in aesthetics and direction. In favor of more flexible storytelling opportunities, I've switched away from the four-panel format that I started with. I also wrote this chapter to start delving into some more longer term stories rather than short, episodic ones, though I do plan on having those along the way. That's where the flexibility comes in!
Stylistically, I've tried to clean up the look a little. Being able to draw a bit bigger compared to the tiny 8-panels-per-page format helps, but I've also made sure not to over-saturate the page with lines, as well as use black shapes to keep things interesting. I'll be getting a lot of practice with it.
I hope you enjoy the chapter! It's a bit late this month because I was mulling over a couple of lines until just now.
You can always read the rest of the comic at the website, https://wisteriacomic.com/!

It's 2019! Great!
At the beginning of last year, I said something about how 2018 was going to be a year for some big changes and progress. I think I can say it turned out that way, especially with WisteriA's debut. Drawing progress has been good too, which I'm grateful for. I have some good momentum going into 2019, so I'm looking forward to more good changes.
I hope your year has been fantastic and I thank everyone for their continued support!

(P.S. That screencap above is from chapter 3, the publishing of which is in progress on the website right now!)

The side project isn't entitled Soralie; that's just the character's name!
This was both a commission as well as some much needed artwork for that project. It's also my first painting in a while (as opposed to lineart drawings). It's also probably my best painting so far, maybe matched only by Elizabeth from a long time ago. Either way, I like it and it was a good learning experience.

2018-12-08 14:01:00 +0000 UTC View PostI apologize for pictures posted in Patreon posts appearing particularly poorly. I'm talking specifically about the full chapter I just posted: within the post, the images are a bit smaller than their full exported size, but right-clicking and opening them in new tabs blows up them up too big, so they're blurry...? I swear that they should be nice and crisp when viewed full size.
It's nothing really new, I suppose. I'm just noticing it as more of an actual problem now. I hope it's not too much of a hassle, in any case.

It's WisteriA chapter 2! Sorry for being a bit late posting it here. Work on it ran later than it was supposed to, and then I also... forgot to actually post it today. But it's here now! I hope you like it.

Hello! The new site is all ready for viewing. You can find it at wisteriacomic.com, where chapter 1 is all posted and available for reading.
On top of that, you'll notice that there are some blog posts already up (mostly brought over from the old site), as well as new blurbs on each page. I'm going to try to include one with every page, and you can go back and read those that are already published if you're interested.
That's it, really. I'll include some chapter 2 art in this post as well. Speaking of which, chapter 2 is nearly finished (I have like one panel left, seriously), and it's scheduled to go live on December 4. I hope you enjoy the comic.

New plan: I have some things (that aren't WisteriA) that demand my attention, so... unfortunately, I'll not be launching the new site tonight. Normally I'd stay up as late as I need to in order to do that, but I can't on account of needing to get some actual sleep tonight.
Rather, I'll probably put it up sometime over the weekend, once I've taken care of things and I can get all my stuff together. Soon! And chapter 2 will start publishing on schedule, even if the tier $5 reward goes out a little late.
(I don't think anyone's in any real hurry to see the new site, anyway)

Hello! The Squarespace site is all expired now. Good riddance. Which means I have to launch the new site now... except it's not quite ready yet. I'm somewhat behind this month, but I'll finish preparing it later today and launch it before tomorrow. I'll be posting/tweeting the new URL and everything when the time comes.
Announcement part II: people's tiers are still a bit all over the place, which is potentially problematic because $5 rewards won't be properly delivered to those who aren't in the appropriate tier when they're posted. Again, if you want those rewards, simply head over to your settings and make sure your pledge is listed under the actual $5 tier (as opposed to "donate without a reward"). Thanks!

Hi!
To reiterate past complaints: Squarespace's rates are awful, so I decided practically right after paying for it that I'd switch over to something more sustainable this month. The Squarespace website (wisteria-comic.squarespace.com) that I've been using to host the first chapter of WisteriA expires a week from now on November 29, which means everything on it will become inaccessible on that day. It also means the link I just inserted won't work anymore, so don't get too attached to it.
In saying our farewells to slick-but-overpriced website platforms, I'm also glad to announce that there will be a new site up and running on the same day or earlier. It's a WordPress one this time, and... will actually probably look a bit nicer, too. Not bad for costing like five times less per month. I'll make some posts about it when it's live and ready.
If you've been following WisteriA so far, either on the site or via my Twitter posts, I hope it's been enjoyable. There's already a sizable list of changes that I've made while drawing chapter 2 that should improve on how chapter 1 looks, with even more changes planned for chapter 3 and onward. Lots of things to look forward to!

P.S. Still planning to eventually change my handle to something else. Also still bad at picking online handles.

Hello!
Patreon brought yet another change to the platform, one that's slightly breaking things this time around. I mentioned in a previous post how it didn't matter if you were in a tier or not, since patron-only posts were visible based on the pledge amount, not the tier you belonged to. This meant pledging $1, $5, $7 or $10, would give you access to those $1 patron posts regardless of being in a tier or not.
That's not true anymore, as it looks like I can only set post visibility based on tiers. As you can see up there, only two patrons would actually see anything with those settings.
I used the $1 tier as an example just now, but it's not so bad for $1 patron-only posts, as $1 being the lowest possible pledge means I can just select "All Patrons" and it'll work. It's a problem for the $5 tier rewards though, because no one will see them at this rate. The solution, if you're pledging $5 or more, are not in the $5+ tier, and would like the $5 rewards, is to join the proper tier so that you can access them.
I realize this is a problem caused by me not publishing the reward tiers back when I was supposed to, so I apologize again. If the rewards matter to you, the fix should be simple and quick, at the very least.
That's about it. I hope the post made sense. Thanks!

Hi! So, I entirely forgot to actually publish the tiers I described in my last post. My apologies if that caused any confusion, which I'm sure it must have. You can see them live now!
The thing to note is that in deleting the previous tiers, everyone's pledge has reverted to "donation without any reward" in my patron manager. It's not really a terrible thing since I can still see who's pledging how much; I just can't see what tiers everyone is in.

I believe it shouldn't affect patron-only posts either, as setting it to $5+, for example, will allow access to everyone paying that much, regardless of what tier they're in (or not in).
So... in short, it doesn't matter at all. But, if you'd like to go and assign your pledge specifically to the correct tier, it should be really easy to. That's all for that!
