Do you get grumpy when interrupted? I have a mind that likes long stretches of time. It's a luxury our lives are not often built around and when I have it, I'm keen to protect it. I wondered for a long time what made the feeling of being interrupted so disorienting. I still don't always understand why my mind reacts the way it does, but I'm more comfortable doing things that make changing tasks or switching gears easier.

Does your brain ever resist a big complicated task? It can be hard to start when you're at the beginning of something new.

Sometimes this train of thought helps me get from the struggle to start and more into my "what now, what next" even if those first steps are very very very small.

Don't forget to congratulate yourself for summiting those smaller peaks. This is my reminder that I don't have to see clear to the top from where I am. It's okay to start small....

A magical, ordinary thing.

The most amazing thing happened. I got to take a Risograph workshop and learn a whole new magical way of making. This gritty and beautiful technique uses a printer and process that feel like if a photocopier and silkscreen made a beautiful, if somewhat ornery baby. It was the type of experience that immediately gave me so many ideas and sent my maker-based brain running rampant through a whole new host of possibilities.

Guess what? You don't have to.

Yesterday was hourly comic day. I did not realize it until I'd already been awake for two hours. I hit the roof and had a fit and then got some very simple but very helpful advice from my partner.

Turns out you don't ALWAYS have to do the thing. Who knew? This came as a sweetly simple shock to me and perhaps it will to you too. 

Sometimes, for some things, you can just...not.

Beautiful Patrons. I received the loveliest of compliments by text the other day, about my appearing "unflappable" which I found deeply flattering. Not always true, but so flattering nonetheless.

I was IN THE MIDDLE of typing my thank you when I elbowed my full coffee onto the floor. This was also the FIRST thing I did when my partner greeted me in the am.

So I got to start my day with some quality time mopping up my lovely coffee lake with my long-suffering patient partner.

When the possibilities are endless

There's an annual tradition over on Instagram where artists post a portrait of themselves surrounded by a grid of their most popular or favourite artworks. It's a lovely way to reflect back on a year of work and enjoy a glimpse of other artists' styles. 

When I first encountered the trend, I oogled all those beautiful posts that had tidy, congruent artworks in consistent styles and colour palettes. Often, all the pieces featured were in the same colour scheme...
