While conservators primarily focus on the object and its preservation they are often called upon to investigate and answer such questions. For the final episode in this series the painting is reassembled both structurally and with respect to the image. Care is taken to preserve the previously hidden inscription and the retouching is executed with reversible materials in a manner that's more respectful of the painting. And after all the work we finally see what General Hamilton looked like standing proud in his battle armor for his grand portrait.
