This is the california nebula, a reprocess from data collected last fall. I'm much happier with how I preserved the details and didn't oversaturate the reds like in my previous shot. The data for this is available for my top tier patrons- let me know if you have any questions about accessing it. I'm still doing the finishing touches, but this is pretty much done. Been working on this one for a few months. This is m42, the Orion Nebula.

This is the Orion Nebula in Hydrogen Alpha. This is a high dynamic range shot, a blend of two minute and 10 minute exposures over 4 hours to create this image. It is in monochrome because Hydrogen-Alpha is a single narrow emission of light. By the end of the season I hope to capture additional channels to create a vibrant color image of this part of the sky.

January 3-4: the Quadrantids Meteor Shower.
If you're up past midnight you should be able to see quite a few meteors on these nights! I say midnight because that is when the moon sets. If you bring a pair of binoculars, look at the moon while you are waiting for it to set. The first quarter moon is absolutely rich with crater details!
January 10: Full Moon...
