The first quarter moon setting behind a cacti-covered butte visible from my backyard.

The colors have been enhanced to show the moon's mineral content. Check the attachments for the raw video of this scene as the moon set.

Merry Christmas! Here's an 80 megapixel composite of the moon captured a couple weeks ago (and the raw image for comparison)

Ah, the magic of editing. This is a composite image, as the original photo was taken during the day, and the washed-out daytime moon was replaced with a moon captured the previous night ( and the size increased for dramatic effect. Check out the original photo here:

However, with precision color balancing, other colors become evident in the nebula. For example, there is a blue cast in the middle from the starlight in the middle scattering the reflected light, completely undetectable with the naked eye. These colors become evident with the right processing te...

A Lunar Approach- The ISS and the Moon at 1am this morning, and how you can capture this yourself!

See attached for a video of the moment of the pass. It's significantly slowed down, it was only in frame for 1/25th of a second!!

My ISS transit shots tend to get the most questions, so I include a write-up exactly how I get them.

First- I check transit-finder.com.
