Various updates

Hey all,

There have been a slew of minor changes to things in January. Let's just nail down the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

  • I've updated the Pantheon of the gods slightly. Agepa (Goddess of the hunt) has had her symbol changed. Also Woomatoor is now Womaatoar.
  • The elemental planes have been shifted 180°.
  • Halfling lifespan has been reduced to be ...

Arcadia Constellation Viewer

Hey yall,

This is very much a work in progress, but I thought I'd share it with you anyway. This is a nighttime view of the sky in Arcadia. You can select what month your characters/players are in and the view will shift to see the sky at that point. There's a check box you can toggle to add or remove labels.

Updates to come with this

  • More exact constellations. These are a rough draft.
  • More detailed constellations with variable brightness on stars
  • Further co...

2017 End of Year

Hey there,

2017 has been a big year. For the world, for me personally, and for the D&D campaigns that you support. Let's take a look at what happened this year, D&D wise.

  • Hardcore Heroes came to an end.
  • Frozen Frontier was started.
  • Fatal One began.
  • Misscliks Devotion had a full and amazing run while trying something totally different and new.
  • Misscliks Risen started up, had a full season and was so successful that WotC renewed it for a 2n...

Regalgoblins Store

Hey ya'll,

For years now people have been asking about Dicing with Death, Hardcore Heroes, and other merch, and today some of these things have been realized. We're starting off with DwD and Fatal One shirts/sweatshirts, an Arcadia mouse pad, and a Dicing with Death apron (for obvious reasons).

I really don't like to push products on people, so you won't see much upselling or marketing from me, but if you've been looking for something like this, it's here now.

Similarly, if you've ...

Tabletop Audio track updates

Hey guys!

Today we updated the tabletop audio track associations, adding track 118-126. As usual I've hidden the track associations that don't fit a fantasy game, but I want to call one of those out this time. "Car Chase!" is super cool. Doesn't fit with a D&D world, but I wanna watch the movie that the track is based on.

Bolded track numbers/names indicate tracks that stand out as top notch.

As always, TableTopAudio.com is an amazing site and an amazing tool for al...

Roll20 skinning

Hey there,

Monday is normally my off day, but instead I spent all day reskinning Roll20 to fit better with the overlays and themes of our shows. Above is Dicing with Death, but I've posted Frozen Frontier on twitter (and will post others as they come) if you'd like to see that.

Design is not my strong point, so if you have feedback on the visuals of the roller section I'd readily welcome it.

Metal Converter Update

Hey there,

The metal converter on RegalGoblins was broken. Like, super broken. It didn't make any sense. I've fixed it now.

Link: http://regalgoblins.com/converter.html

For those interested in the inner workings of the conversion process, it goes like this. There are 2 key values: The materials cost, and the skill cost.

Materials cost: Since we use copper/brass/bronze* as our default metal in Arcad...

2.Neal Updates

Hey there folks,

I've made a few slight changes to the 2.neal document. They are as follows

  • Updating the formatting to look nicer
  • Added Spell Memorization subsection
  • Added Spell Switching subsection
  • Added link to 2e spells on RegalGoblins under the Wizard Spell Appendix.

While I have added the spell switching subsection, I have my reservations. We may find ourselves removing that change in the future.

2e NWP descriptions update

I've made a single change to the 2e NWPs.

Under the survival proficiency, I've added the following blocks of text:

  • If one is going to be foraging a lot in one day and wishes to simplify, the following optional system may be used.
  • A forager may spend 2 hours searching for food to find 1d6 standard days of food. This requires a single proficiency check. Overland travel while foraging can accomplished by reducing movement speed to ¼ during the time foraging.

2e Character Sheet Update!

Hello folks,

I've made some updates to the 2e character sheet. The change-log is below.

  • Removed weapon weight from the weapon table
  • Removed weapon size from the weapon table
  • Weapon and Nonweapon profs are now one single column
  • Equipment weights are now two columns with subtotals on each and text denoting on body vs in bag

The equipment organizational update might cause problems if you've got more in your bag than you have space for in that col...

Point Buy System

Recently I've had the desire to have a better understanding of what it means to be an average / above average character. Stats can be quite difficult to compare directly: Is a character with three 3s and three 18s equal to a character with three 10s and three 11s? They both average 10.5, but to say they're of equivalent power would be wrong. I've put together a point buy system that lets us compare character stats more directly and more objectively (Note: A character is far more than their stats...

Fatal One: The Counter Push

Hey everybody

It looks like bits of the community are starting to sit up and take this dungeon seriously. Cjreek over on reddit.com/r/koibu has put together a pretty magical document to help track what's going on in this dungeon. It's this sort of community networking that might, just might, stand a chance against Fatal One.

I, for one, will be keeping an eye on this document. -_-

Running a Chase

So I was thinking about how awkward chases have been in my campaigns when I had a moment of clarity! Rather than trying to measure distances and movement speeds, which can make for some interesting rules layering, we should just boil it down to a single opposed roll. The person being chased (the runner) is either trying to out distance or out maneuver their pursuers. Which means the decision for how the chase should be run is up to the runner.

If the runner chooses to out run / out pace / out ...

Patreon / Discord linking for Town Sheriffs

Hey there,

We now have automatic Patreon/Discord account linking support, so I've readded to the Town Sheriff ($5) tier access to a Patreon only discord channel. Of course if you're more than a Town Sheriff you'll also have access to this. All you will need to do is link your Patreon and Discord accounts in the settings here in Patreon and you're good to go! It might take an hour or so for the role to be assigned in Discord, but if there are any problems let me know and I'll solve them for you...

Koibu's Corner: Outlining your adventures practice! Homework attached.

Hey there everybody, it's time for another Koibu's Corner, but this time we're going to be talking about building adventures and how to plan them. We're going to be looking at a simple way to get the grand outline of your plans to give your story some structure and pacing. This is a pretty loose method which is flexible enough that when things change (and they will), you should still be able to modify the story as it comes up. I will be making up a story to show as an example as we go along to h...

Moving to Boulder, CO

Greetings Patrons!

I will be moving from Gualala, CA to Boulder, CO starting tomorrow! It's a pretty big move in a lot of ways.

  • 10 days on the road
  • 2500 miles of driving
  • 5 states
  • 4 National Parks (minimum)
  • 1 solar eclipse (from Casper, WY in the middle of the path)
  • Living away from the ocean for the first time in my life!! :(

When we get there my wife will be starting her masters degree in DMT (Dance and Movement Therap...

KC: On min-maxing characters

Today we're going to be discussing the strengths and disadvantages of a min-maxed character. The core concept is that TTRPGS are based on overcoming challenges, and you want a character that does well in that area without breaking it. I will try to keep this as system-neutral as possible, but it will help if the reader is familiar with an ascending AC and hit system (higher AC/roll to hit is better).

We're going to take a look at some examples of fighters both on 2.n and in 5e, so the ne...

Soundcloud restored!

Hey there,

So some of you may have noticed that in the last 6 months, Soundcloud stopped updating with all the good stuff from YouTube. I'll save you the boring technical explanation of what happened, but thanks to one of our viewers, Valentin, we have resolved the issue! Soundcloud should always be up to date from now on - maybe a day or two behind YouTube.

So let's all give Valentin a big round of applause and a big Thank You! :D :D :D

Sneak Peak: Project T

I've been keeping the details of Project T very close to the chest. I've tried not to spill details of it, but some really exciting stuff has been happening. So I'm going to attempt to tell you about it without telling you about it.

It's going to be 5e. It's going to be a guest based game. It will probably take place in Caldonia (where Frozen Frontier is taking place). It's going to have a dedicated DM for story, and a dedicated DM to control monster actions.

One DM (me) will set u...

Koibu's Corner: Be bold!

This is the first of many Koibu's Corner posts I will be making here. Before we hop into the meat of the post, I want to introduce the Koibu's Corner concept to those that might be unfamiliar with it. Koibu's Corner is a opinion/advice blog post centered around TTRPG concepts that should apply universally to all TTRPGs, even if the examples given will be from AD&D 2e or D&D 5e. In the following post I will be talking about why players should take bold actions, even if they are dang...

Moving to Boulder, CO

I've mentioned this before, but lets give it a formal place somewhere. I'm going to be moving to Boulder, CO starting on or around August 12th. My wife (Lauren) and I will be doing a 10 day road trip through 6 states (California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Wyoming and Colorado) to see some wonderful things like General Sherman, The Grand Canyon, and the 2017 Solar Eclipse.

Upon arriving in Boulder, we will finally be in a place where I can really set up shop. I'm going to be building a studio with...

Project T

Project T has been in the works for a while now. We've talked about it, we've planned some of it on stream (although you thought we were doing something else altogether hahaha), and we've speculated wildly as to what it might be. Let me get a little more info out about it.

Project T has a launch date set for late summer, after I make my move to Boulder (August 12-22). It will feature a star studded cast and two DMs. Yes, 2. How is that going to work exactly you ask? I will be writing the story...
