Pattern and Instructions: Brooklyn Jacket

Meet the Brooklyn Jacket! Yet again, I'm bringing you something inspired by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, since I know you all just can't get enough of her looks. Midge never shies away from a fabulous jacket or coat, and as costume designer Donna Zakowska wrote in her excellent book Madly Marvelous, "her rainbow closet of coats became inseparable from her persona." Likewise, she has a whole collection of little jackets to coordinate with her dresses and skir...

Hint for Tomorrow's Release!

Hi everyone! September is nearly upon us: that sweet spot of the year when it starts to cool down. You may even find yourself reaching for a light jacket or throw blanket! This month's pattern is a must-have transitional piece. It's also named after one of my favorite places in New York.

Put those guesses in the comments!

Video: The Carousel Dress

Hey Artists! Come join me for a video tutorial on the Carousel Dress. You'll learn how to sew this fabulous dress from start to finish, including many key skills:

  • Sewing an all-in-one facing
  • Our signature clean-finish lapped zipper
  • Creating the three-layer flounce with tulle

Also, you may have noticed that we've started adding time stamps for each section of the video! Check out the video description on 2022-08-01 14:01:05 +0000 UTC View Post

Pattern and Instructions: Carousel Dress

Meet the Carousel Dress! This fanciful frock was inspired by a true-vintage dress I spotted during one of my Dapper Day adventures. The gathered flounce provides just the right amount of sass, while piping, layers of tulle, and bows can give you all the drama you seek. Or, if you're looking for a less-is-more ensemble, sew it without the flounce for a classic A-line dress.

Fabric choices also have a big influence on the vibe of this particular dress. Stripes give off a j...

Hint for Tomorrow's Release!

Hi everyone! Tomorrow marks the beginning of August, which means the dog days of summer are upon us AND we have a brand new monthly pattern and video for you. I've gone rogue again, and for the first time, I named this design after an amusement park/carnival attraction. This pattern is classic Charm, and it was inspired by a garment I saw on a recent trip to someplace magical.

What are your guesses, Nancy Drews?

Fit Clinic, Episode Three!

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to bring you the next installment in our Fit Clinic Series!

In Episode Three, we will go over how fabric choice effects fit and teach you some tips on how to choose the right fabric to make sure you get the perfect fit.  The most common questions I get asked are about fabric substitutions. This is usually possible, but will most likely lead to some pattern adjustments. To showcase this, we made the Bryant gown in 4 very different fabrics so you can see...

Pattern and Instructions: Ginger Sailor Pants

Meet the Ginger Sailor Pants! For this design, I was inspired by none other than fashion icon Ginger Rogers. The singer/dancer/actress rose to fame in the 1930s, staring in over 70 films over her four-decade career. While your first thought of Ginger may be of her  floating over the dance floor in a silk gown, her casual styles continue to influence fashion today. Fred Astaire even said of her, "Girls love to wear slacks when learning or rehearsing a dance. Ginger always wore them f...

Hi everyone! Slight change to tonight's Crowdcast. I'm switching it up to hair as the topic since I'm currently unable to wear eye makeup (GASP!). I thought it could be fun to cover a couple of hairdo topics: 1) using faux braids and 2) an overnight "wet" set with pillow rollers (see photos at the bottom of the post). I hope that suits you! I promise we will do the makeup live stream as soon as possible.
