Brandon was not doing well, Ned knew. They all saw it. Each of them did what they could to bring him out of the melancholy that gripped him, only for each and every attempt to be met with scorn and failure. He couldn't help but feel responsible, but in the days that followed, he didn't know what he could actually do to pull his brother from his downward spiral.
Then his father pulled him to the side, telling them that he had done enough, and Brandon would sink or swim on his own. ...

There was a point in time when Chris Redfield would have earnestly called Albert Wesker a friend.
He had always been quiet. A bit standoffish. The type that prided themselves on being a professional, so it felt like a victory when you convinced him to go out for a few drinks to celebrate a job well done. He would usually fall into the background of a crowd, but every once in a while he'd make a small sarcastic joke, and they never failed to get a laugh.

The rest of their time in King's Landing was a blur to Brandon. He barely paid the hours or days that passed any heed, finding that he didn't have the stomach for frivolous frollicking and gossip. The only way he took note of time passing was the occasional celebration he was dragged into attending by his father because his presence was demanded.
Paul Atreides had proved to the Seven Kingdoms that he was the greatest duelist among them as he won the tournament. Then, following tha...

“What is this? How…?” Sephiroth questioned, hovering over me and Genesis with obvious concern that he didn't quite know how to express. The old professor allowed us a room to settle inside so I could inspect the wound that I’d inflicted upon the First Class SOLDIER. His shirt and jacket were removed, revealing the gray flesh and black spiderweb veins from the stone-like wound. He was pale and sweaty as he laid up on the bed that was offered, his breathing shallow and uneven because I ...

“How strange for us to be part of the same mission,” Sephiroth noted, a light smile tugging at his lips as he looked to the closest friends he had. The only friends he had. Angeal and Genesis both stood, waiting for the man that they would be escorting, but they also wore small smiles, appreciating the rarity.
“Our mission must be an important one if the three of us are to make sure his head remains on his shoulders," Genesis said, pushing back his light red hair wi...

“Firaga,” I uttered, feeling a hum in the magic circuits that I channeled the command through, and in response a torrent of fire ignited before me. A test dummy was instantly engulfed in potent flames, getting reduced to ash in a handful of seconds while the walls and floor of the test area steamed where the fire consumed itself. A slight smile tugged at my lips as I looked down at the carefully crafted magic circuit that was clamped and pointed in the direction of the test bed.

“Welp, now that we're actually here… how exactly are we supposed to find your cat? It's a whole new world, and we might not even be in the right decade,” Jinx remarked as we walked along a busted asphalt road towards the city that loomed in the distance. So far, we hadn't seen a single car coming to or from the city, which was an indication of… something. Of what? That I wasn't too sure about, but it was certainly something.
“All that depends on what kind of world we're ...

‘I might kill the king,’ Hjalmar thought to himself. It was a stray thought, but one that crept up with surprising persistence as the months passed. Hjalmar wasn't sure why the king did it, but the moment he acknowledged him on that stage to receive some award, things had gotten… interesting. Interesting and not in a good way.
It should have been an honor. And, if he was being a little more honest with himself, it was an honor. It hadn't come as mu...

“I am going to wring his damn neck!” Jill thundered as she paced the room, as angry as Jasmine had ever seen her. She marched like a woman off to war, practically bouncing off the wall, just to turn on her heel to continue her pacing. It was a struggle to keep her amusement off her face, and she distracted herself by playing with Radahn's small hands. “How could he put himself in that position? Surrounded on all sides by three hundred men? All of them wanting him dead?...

Each of my kingdoms needed a different approach to solidify my rule over them. In Denmark, the kingdom was small enough in terms of landmass that Miklagard and the kingsroad were enough evidence to support my claims that the changes I offered would strengthen our people and make life easier. They were examples that I could point to for all to see and it was impossible for them to go unseen.
That approach would not work for Geatland and Sweden. The people there were too dispersed. ...

The conquest was off to a great start even by my standards -- there had been a steady stream of skirmishes across Geatland and Sweden to test my recruits' mettle. Small armies were allowed to gather from bands of Karl's or Thegns, and they were met with equal force. Each time, my men emerged victorious due to superior tactics, arms, and armor. Though, the victories didn’t come without cost.

‘Why is this happening to me?’ Rebecca thought to herself, screaming internally as she tried to fall through the floor. Out of everyone, she felt like she was the least qualified person to be standing where she was. Leon was tough and charming, if a bit of a doofus. The next month and a half went incredibly smoothly. Everything was firing on all cylinders, and the immediate goals to reach my less immediate goals got toppled one after another.
The aftermath of Silco's death played out exactly as I’d expected it to, with Zaun losing its absolute fucking mind, thinking that the Pilties had assassinated the voice that they’d finally managed to get on the Council, crime lord or not.
It was a madhouse, and the only reason there were...

“Is this the first time you've stepped foot in another land?” Trym asked Hjalmar as they finished the disembarkment into the land of the Geats. The trip over had been rather short, only taking a few hours, really, and only that long because the veterans had landed first to secure the landing site.
“Aye,” Hjalmar admitted, his gaze sweeping over the busy landing sight just north of Sjaelland. There were forests. There were mountains. And, within them, he knew there would be...

‘It feels wrong to be happy,’ Ned thought to himself. His joy tasted of ash, his actions weighed heavily upon him to the point it was suffocating. Crushing. It was a betrayal of the highest order, but he didn't know what else he should have done. Yet, when he gazed into the violet eyes of Ashara, he found that he couldn't regret his decision. Even if his happiness felt like it came at the expense of his brother's.
“It's done then?” Ashara questioned, her eyes glit...

Hello everyone -- I will be taking next week off for some family-related reasons. They're a bit unexpected, so sorry about the late notice of it. However, I think it all works out, as I was already planning to take a week off since I've been working full throttle on writing since I quit my job, and I'm starting to feel a little burned out. So, there will be no updates between the 31st and 7th, but I will be back on the 8th.
