Whoever said that Cyvasse had ballocks for brains and not an ounce of good sense, Robert Baratheon decided as he sat at a board with the pieces arranged mid battle with a graveyard filled with pieces on both sides. Even as a tool to teach tactics, it was middling at best. He wasn't sure why people were so obsessed with the game, enough so that it got its own contest at the tourney.
As Robert moved a pawn forward, setting it in motion without much thought, he knew it was the kind of gam...

After getting a moment to breathe, I made my choices for Level 10. It was an important milestone level for my class -- Magic Item Adept had the potential to be a real game changer for me. It not only would allow me to create magic items faster, but they would also require less materials. Which was gonna be nice when I started building things from scratch, but the biggest change was that I could attune myself to four magical items at a time.
Which became increasingly important as time w...

The reception was more or less in line with what Rickard anticipated upon their arrival. King Aerys had never hidden his disdain for the North, however undeserved his ire was. In fact, that was about the only thing that Rickard found respectable about the king -- he was honest.
At least until he tried to dress himself up like a drowned rat wrapped in silks and given perfumes to mask the stench of rot.
King Aerys was a man of little concern, however. He may still possess the crow...

“I won,” Rumi announced, barging into my office and making the house of cards I was building fall over. I pursed my lips, looking down at the cards with some annoyance before I cocked an eyebrow in Rumi's direction just in time for her to throw a packet of papers at my face. She was only a little disappointed that I caught them with my hands rather than my face.
I knew what the packet of papers contained. I had a similar packet on my desk. Creating a small Room with a thought, I sa...

“Very sneaky,” Yoruichi praised, walking along the platform in the form of a cat, while Cinder stood over Caitlyn to ensure that she was unconscious. “Did you appreciate the show, at least?”
Cinder's flesh crawled at the display that was still ongoing down below. Men and women mutilating themselves to further empower a monster that was more powerful than anything or anyone that Cinder had ever seen. Save, perhaps, for the cat woman making light of the situation. “It served it...

“I… am known as Singed,” the man introduced himself as I was walked into his lab, escorted by Jinx. It was a real and right proper secret lab too -- it was located in the fringe of the city, in the fissures that were mined out centuries ago before Piltover started digging down and laid the foundations for what would become the Undercity. There was a complete network of caves that had been co-opted for various inhuman experiments.
The man himself had a real evil scientist vibe to ...

“You don't scary easy, huh?” Jinx noted, watching me as I waved at Sukuna, who looked pissed all the way off in the aftermath of the fight. Couldn't blame him there. I'd be pissed too in his shoes -- things had ended right before they started to really ramp up. All because of interference.
“Nope! Danger and risk and losing are fun if you know how to enjoy them,” I replied, idly gauging her reaction to that while also pondering what I saw within my Room. A person had been glidin...

It was difficult to pinpoint exactly when it happened, but the people attending the meeting in Rome seemed to realize all at once what they were trying to accomplish. That it wasn't some vague idea or a lofty goal that would fall apart the moment they took their eyes off if it. They realized that what they were doing was real, that the reformation of the Roman Empire was possible, and it was up to them to make it happen.
As an outsider looking in, it was rather fascinating to witness. ...

If I had to describe the meeting of two of the most powerful monarchs in midgard in a single word, then my word of voice would be… tense. Or perhaps uncomfortable. If, however, I was allowed two words, then they would be painfully awkward. The ancient senate building was filled with a tension that I could only liken to the feeling of knowing your parents were fighting, and you were wary of even breathing too loudly, fearful it might set them off.
Irene and Charlemagne sat across from...

I had hoped that things would be simple with my departure, but that wasn't the case. The Roman came and went, delivering Irene's message -- a invitation to attend her in Constantinople. An invitation that I couldn't refuse without consequence.
It was tempting to simply ignore the summons. Extremely so. The only thing that held me back from ignoring the summons, and Irene, was one simple thing. An instruction to bring no less than five hundred of my greatest warriors with me to Constant...

I felt a bit bad about the Emperor's death. I wasn’t too familiar with the boy, but I was aware of him. How excitable he was at the chariot races. How he perked up at hearing stories. How, despite his crown, he was largely a normal boy. One who had the misfortune to have Irene as his mother, as it turned out.
Constantine was never going to be more than his mother’s puppet. I suspected that since the beginning. Irene was too ambitious. She coveted power, influence, and control. And,...

Sorry everyone -- this notice was meant to go up on Sunday, but I messed up the timed release. And, to make sure no one has a heart attack, Best of Intentions isn't being put on hiatus or being abandoned.
The next chapter of Best of Intentions is delayed until later this week. Probably until Thursday or Sunday at the very latest. Basically, I've been working on the next arc for the story, and it's not shaping up how I wanted it to. Some rewrites are required, and, normally, when someth...

“Father, what are they building?” Ragnar asked me, seated upon a slab of marble with his legs kicking back and forth endlessly. He pointed out to the construction crew that were assembling the pieces.
“It's called a water wheel,” I answered dutifully as I chiseled away at a stone statue. After more than a year, the hesitation had left my strikes when it came to shearing off stone. My current project was one I had only begun a week earlier, but it was already rapidly nearing com...

Railguns were pretty simple, truth be told. It was a pretty basic principle applied to a logical extreme -- guided magnetic propulsion. “Already!? You have a functioning prototype already!?” Heimerdinger blurted, unable to restrain his surprise as he once more stood in the lab of his pupils. The most secure lab in the university was always reserved for those whose creations possessed the potential for revolutionary effects and dangerous accidents. It was rare to have more than one such pupil in the lab at a time -- largely due to conflicting egos -- so it was nothing less than heartwarming to see a collaborative effort of...
