“What the fuck do you mean, he's been captured?” Rumi blurted, a frown twisting at her lips as she regarded Taylor coldly. Another psychopath in Law’s merry band of them. The girl was young, around the age she would have started going to UA, and back home she already would have been a dangerous villain. That, however, wasn't the issue. “How could he get captured? His power lets him go wherever he wants.”
“We must rescue Monsieur Law at once and bring those responsible to th...

“So, you've been stuck here for around two hundred years trying to create the ultimate panacea… and you succeeded?” I questioned with a slight tilt of my head as I looked through the window of a lab. On the other side, there was a robot. A Mr. Handy, as the series was called. A ball shaped body with a thruster at the bottom with multiple attachments for arms and eyes. This one was painted white, and on a quick inspection, it seemed to be better maintained than most.
“Oh, I am a...

“She's performing well,” Robin informed as I gazed out of a window, overlooking the portal as the various refugees and, more importantly, the scavengers that managed to return came through. The raids were a bit of a hit and a miss -- things had settled enough in the Old World that new powers were establishing themselves. Key points of interests, supplies, and so on. I had assumed we would keep the edge in terms of resources, but there were plenty of people with money and information that ...

“Hey, don't look at me. Cinder is the one with the issues here. That's all her,” I held my hands up underneath a withering glare from Asami. It was a rare thing that she ventured to this side of the Dias. Partly because things on her side were an absolute shit show, but mostly because she hated what we were building here.
“You allow her to do it,” Asami hissed at me, looking down at her cup of water like she was debating the merits of chucking it at my head. I kicked my feet up...

"Hold on!" I exclaimed, before I dove down -- I didn't really know what was going on down there, but it looked bad. Really bad. That cannon must have hit the buildings with the force of a cruise missile or something because it looked like it took out an entire row of houses. Completely demolished them. As I flew down, I caught sight of people running out of their homes, wisely deciding to get the fuck out of there. I nearly looked away before I saw a man wielding a cutlass sword slash a fleei...

I was pretty satisfied with how things had turned out, I thought, looking down at the sea of Abbasid soldiers that we had managed to pen in. It had been a challenge, but for weeks, I had been slowly setting the stage for this. It hadn't been easy and the cost was honestly higher than I would have preferred, but given that we had encircled an army twice our size, I suppose around five hundred dead or wounded was perfectly acceptable.
It was the same trick that King Widukind did back in ...

Things were not going particularly well, Hadi acknowledged as he stared at the report written on a scrap of parchment. He felt an exhaustion deep in his bones, as in the three weeks since their landing, he had yet to sleep well. The most he had gotten was when he was unconscious and he was half tempted to ask Zafir to whack him over the head.
“He eludes us,” Prince Harun cursed, and it was clear that the situation was no less stressful for the prince. No, it was more so for him. A ...

“If I'm dead, then Jahannam has a poor sense of humor,” Hadi croaked, laying on a bed in a tent, with Alim seated next to him with a book that probably weighed as much as he did across his lap. Alim looked up at him, blinking owlishly at the sudden address, before he offered a small smile. “The battle? My brother?” Hadi questioned, sitting up, only to find his sword arm bound and in a splint. His face hurt. His arm hurt. But, he seemed to remain whole.

Disembarking was a long and time consuming affair. The settlement of Fajr was in good order, as it had been when Hadi left it some months ago. Five thousand men remained in it to secure their foothold, and they welcomed their countrymen with open arms. Hadi found himself rather busy taking stock of the situation -- collecting spy reports that had yet to be sent to him, inspecting the damage that the fire ship had done to their fleet, and steeling himself for everything to come.
The dam...

The tender moment was abruptly cut short with the announcement that the base had three minutes left until it self-destructed. Taking out my GBM, I pointed in the direction of the docking bay, and fired a single shot that carved a long line towards it. It was a dangerous method, but given that we were short on time, I didn't have a lot of options. Microbots began to pour out of my spine, creating platforms for the kids to climb onto with GN Drives giving them lift.
“I know it's sudden...

I didn't know what to feel as I stood in Yorinobu's office, looking at the blood that was splattered and pooling on his desk and window. That was one of the few hints of his death. The camera footage was scrambled, rendering it useless, and the identity of the killer a mystery. Yorinobu himself, however, was currently missing, but there was no hope that he survived.
Sitting at his desk was a hologram of Yorinobu -- blood splatter analysis gave an accurate prediction of where Yorinobu w...

The fleet tried to scramble to save itself, but I took the time to hunt them down. I hadn't realized it then, with the chaos of the battle, but there were precious few Turians actually on the ships themselves. There were still some, of course, but just enough to have the fleet function enough to fight back. The fleet, and the fighters, were largely controlled by military VIs. All to sell the image that I had been fighting against their full fleet.

I felt calm as we descended into the belly of the beast. There was fear there, pooling in my gut, but it was firmly in check. I controlled it rather than the fear controlling me. If I had to describe what I felt in a single word, then the word righteous came to mind. And if I was being honest, I don't think it was a natural feeling.
Karen had alluded to it, but people didn't come back like I did. Even ghost trainers. I had suspected as much for some time now, but the body was influenci...

“Left, left, left, right, left,” I chanted, running next to Mankey and I had to admit, I was doing a lot better than I thought I would be after a solid three hours of running. Pokemon humanity seemed to start at a base level of Olympic athletes and only got better from there. My t-shirt was soaked through with sweat, and I got sand under my ankle weights, so that kinda sucked, but other than that, I was great. I wasn’t even tired, not really.

“Lickitung,” Larry said, bringing out his fist pokemon. I had a plan to deal with him, but given how he had crushed Brawly, I had to assume that he planned around my planning. Which meant I needed to plan around his planning… or, I could flip the board on him.
“Mimikyu,” I decided. The costume would protect him from the effects of Lick. He had a move set that could counter how Lickitung had danced around Brawly's pokemon. Mimikyu leaped from my shoulder, landing on the sand. ...

There were a lot fewer people on the beach at night, making it perfect for me. I paddled out on my stomach, the waves rising and falling in a rhythm while the moon shone overhead. Light pollution thinned out the number of stars overhead, but they were still quite a sight, enough to distract me until I saw an incoming wave. “Ready?” I asked Mankey and Mimikyu, the former soaked to the bone but genuinely enjoying himself. Mimikyu held onto the board with a death grip.

Taylor Hebert ran for her life, her lungs burning, her legs aching, each breath coming as a desperate gasp. A loud crack before the sound of something whizzing by her ear made her breathing hitch as a plume of dust from the sandy dirt went up a dozen feet ahead of her. It was nothing short of a miracle that she hadn't been hit. That the bullet hadn't hit someone else.
A dozen people moved with her, all running in the same general direction. Each one as exhausted as she felt. Men, women...

Hadi's father couldn't have been more happy even if Allah himself parted the skies and proclaimed him a prophet. A royal advisor. A direct connection to the throne. A position of great influence, even if it was to the second son, as a prince was still a prince. It was more than his father could have ever hoped for. Given how proud his father was… it was all the evidence that Hadi needed to understand that, at some point, he had taken a very wrong turn in life.

This was going to be one hell of a test drive, I thought to myself as the Turian fleet began to move. Portions of the fleet that I'm guessing didn't have an army on them began to converge on my location. There were a thousand ships, and even if a hundred of them remained behind, that was still nine hundred to deal with. The leader of the fleet was the dreadnought under the command of Tacitus.
I was cautious. I had stacked the deck as much as I could in my favor -- the Swordfish was as c...

“My lord, a man of the Night’s Watch has arrived,” Maester Wallys informed, stirring Rickard Stark as he gazed out upon the battlements of his home and castle, Winterfell. Cold winds made his dark brown hair whip at his cheeks, intermingling with the last winter snow. Winter itself had yet to yield its grip on the land, and the surrounding countryside was covered in a layer of undisturbed white. It made the message that was delivered all the more puzzling.
“A deserter?” Rickar...
