Gacha God: New You (ch. 14)

Peter managed to live through the ordeal, but there were times when it was touch and go. I’m not sure if that was because the serum was made with me in mind, or if he was just having a much harsher reaction to it than I did. The transformation lasted for a solid eight hours, the first two Peter screamed his way through, before he blacked out from the pain at long last, then woke back up at hour six. He spent the rest of the time whimpering and shuddering, spitting the water out as much as h...

Gacha God: Learning Curve (ch. 13)

"Everyone in heaven is a fool, but not all fools go to heaven," I quoted my fortune after cracking open a fortune cookie while my Chinese takeout was precariously balanced on a knee. Someone was clearly in a mood typing this one up. Fortune cookies were probably the best bad cookie you could eat. Eating one, you thought they tasted kind of good. Wouldn't blow anyone's socks off, but as far as a snack went, it was passable. A solid five out of ten. But, eating a bunch of them at the same time,...

Announcement: Going on a business trip between March 13th- 27th

As the title implies, I will be going on a business trip between March 13th-27th. Now, normally, I don't bother with announcements for trips mostly because they're pretty short and they don't interfere with my update schedule. They usually last for a day or three. This one is a little different because I'll be bouncing between eight different cities over the course of two weeks, and to be blunt, it's going to suck a whole lot. I will be the King of Jetlag.

So, this is a heads up t...

From the Ashes: Glimmers of What Once Was (ch. 28)

"We should leave," Sten voiced his opinion as our companions gathered up in a small house that had been allocated for all of us. "Staying this long was a foolhardy endeavor."

"I am in agreement with Sten," Morrigan voiced, leaning in a corner with a slight grin on her face. "The darkspawn are here because every hamlet and village has evacuated to either here or Lothering. You wish to stop the darkspawn from going further? Then give them what they want to tie them down. If you must save ...

From the Ashes: Glimmers of Battle (ch. 27)

“That was too much,” Leliana scolded me as we turned away from Teagan, who was speaking to Alistair in a low tone. I’m guessing he was either saying unkind things or plotting to put him on the throne of Ferelden. Frankly, I couldn’t have cared less in either case. “You must be diplomatic, Azoth. Bann Teagan controls the Arling now that his brother is recovering.”

“Or dying,” I muttered, wondering if I was hopeful or not, mostly out of spite. I sincerely doubted that Arl ...

From the Ashes: Glimmers of Hope (ch. 26)

“You didn’t say anything,” Theron remarked in a quiet voice as we set up camp. We rejoined the villagers, but they were giving us -- or, rather, Shale -- a wide berth. As a result, we didn’t really need to take watch. Apparently, Shale didn’t need to sleep, but it was decided that it would be best if at least one Grey Warden was up at all times. Alistair could feel the darkspawn the best out of the three of us, but Theron was rapidly catching up. Likely because of how tainted he had...

From the Ashes: Glimmers of Change (ch. 25)

“You are a saarebas,” Sten accused me as if I had deceived him. I noticed that he waited until he was armed to do so -- a large two-handed blade that he handled with ease and the utmost contempt. Finding armor for him was going to be difficult, but he didn’t seem to mind. Seemed to prefer it, really. We were readying the horses for the trip to Honnoleth to collect the golem before heading to Redcliff since it would only be a small detour. When we got to Redcliff, Elissa and her forces w...

Consume and Level Up ch. 1 (Danmachi/That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) (Slime SI)

“Oh shit, oh fuck, oh shit, oh shit, oh shiiiiittttt!!!!” I gasped out, rolling on the floor for dear fucking life, wishing for nothing more in this world than a pair of legs so I could beat feet. Instead, I was forced to roll across the lumpy and uneven floor with as much speed as I could muster. And, had to say, it wasn’t a lot.

“Rahh!” I heard a monster shout a split second before it lunged at me. I saw it even though it was directly behind me -- it was a fucked up-looking ...

Castoff: The Best of Intentions (ch. 14)

Ciri had to admit it -- Guts knew what he was doing. She went into this meeting thinking that she was going to be stuck translating Guts speech and leading the entire negotiation. It was actually incredible to witness, in its own way, how he had the biggest gangers in the city -- the Four, who controlled Novigrad more than any king could hope to -- by the balls in a vice grip. And, better yet, Guts was making sure that they knew he knew how desperate they were.

"You are interested," Sig...

Legends Never Die: Family (ch. 31)

The plan to invade during the winter was dismissed. It had relied on the assumption that we would be joined by the second Saxon army, taking advantage of the defeat of the besieging army to punch deep into Francia while they were unprepared. Given our own losses, King Widukind made the decision to wait and gather our strength and to let word spread throughout Saxony. To see what his nation would react with - fear, or anger.

The war had already proven costly, and the menfolk were needed ...

Legends Never Die: The Nature of Vengeance (ch. 30)

Morrigan slapped me. Hard. I couldn't even say that I saw the blow coming either, because one moment, I was standing in front of the great tree, watching as the bodies were removed and coming to terms with what I had just agreed to. Then I I heard the furious crunching of snow and by the time I thought to look over, I was greeted by Morrigan's palm as it struck me with enough force that I nearly toppled over. Still unsteady from my injuries my injuries, I staggered a step, the harsh sound rin...

Legends Never Die: Blood Debts (ch. 29)

Was this intentional? It was my first thought as the plum of dust drifted upwards, the tunnel completely collapsing as far as I could tell. My mind raced, a thousand different thoughts running through my brain as I gazed at the collapsed tunnel, my jaw was slack with shock and I was frozen with indecision. Perhaps it was arrogant to assume that someone was willing to kill upward of a thousand men just to kill me, but it sure felt like an assassination attempt. Grimar? King Widukind?

Legends Never Die: Traps and Plots (ch. 28)

"It looks like disease," I observed from my position on the watchtower, looking out at the Franks that were hurrying their dead to a large grave. Next to me, King Widukind stood, most of his body protected by the stone rampart, but standing next to him was a warrior that had his shield raised. Just in case someone tried to assassinate the Saxon King. Well outside of the effective range for the average archer, I saw a trail of soldiers that were carrying bodies to the large hole that was being...

Never Fade Away: You Lit A Flame (ch. 18)

"L!" Jack shouted, entering their shared home to see that L had been busy. He had converted the area above them into some weird room that had a bunch of servers. The space between them was filled with something -- coolant, if she had to guess. Between the three rows of servers were what looked like tech with a shit ton of RAM sticks slotted into it. Ugly as hell, and half done at best. But, L was working on it.

"Yeah?" L questioned, looking more exhausted than he had a day ago. She ende...

Never Fade Away: Never Leaving (ch. 17)

"Where the fuck is the fucking- oh, there it is," I muttered to myself as I stood surrounded by bits and pieces of equipment ranging from wires, nuts and bolts, electronics, and some metal plating. Grabbing the wrench, I started aggressively unhooking a bolt that I had secured way too tightly. Normally, building things gave me peace of mind. A zen-like state where my brain turned off all unnecessary functions and I could just work without thinking about anything other than the task at hand. View Post

Never Fade Away: In The End (ch. 16)

V hadn’t reconnected with me in a month after shooting me a text to deliver the Element Zero implants to a drop point in the Glen. I parted with them with some reluctance, mostly because I still didn’t understand the substance at all and J had given me an inkling of what it was capable of. That lack of contact should have been something of a reassurance, but I found myself more nervous than ever. It felt like there was a leash around my neck and at any moment, without warning, I was going...

Never Fade Away: I AM Your Demon (ch. 15)

“Damn, they really cut you up, huh?” J remarked, perched on a table that she had moved to the corner. She slept with her back to it, usually seated up with her legs curled into her chest. The chair that was there was used as a footrest as she watched me get out of the shower with a towel wrapped around my waist. Her eyes flickered over my chest and arms, following along the scar tissue that had built up over a decade of constant surgery. “You have more scars than I’ve ever seen on one...

New World Order (Harry Potter/Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)

“David,” his mom started, catching David’s attention as he sat on the couch, doing his homework on the holoscreen to qualify for Arasaka’s middle school. He didn’t have any schooling prior because Mom couldn’t afford to put him in one, and he was more than a little cross that she suddenly decided that he would be going to school. The rest of his friends were in Feral Gangs -- gangs of kids that learned all that they needed to know.

Legends Never Die: Yule (ch. 27)

Despite the siege, it was decided by King Widukind that we would celebrate Yule to honor the gods, as thanks for the victories we had enjoyed so far. While we couldn't make wreaths, we had everything else we needed to celebrate -- animals to sacrifice, and Yule logs that were carved out of buildings that had been torn down. The decision wasn't just to honor the gods, I suspected, as I overlooked Frankfurt from one of the watchtowers. I wasn't sure who spoke of it, but word had spread about th...

"Djinns are beyond dangerous. You should know that better than anyone. All the wishes in the world aren't worth a thing if the one granting them is trying to get you to choke on them." Triss crossed her arms over her chest, her brow drawing together. "And I know you know that."
