Going Native: Desires Unfulfilled (ch. 65)

My hands curled into fists, and veins bulged in my neck and arms, expanding with blood to keep me from passing out. The air stirred around me, responding to the power that swelled within me. I pulled at my ki, dragging it up no matter how heavy it seemed. The process was slow. Painfully slow. Far too slow for a fight, so I pulled harder. Force was necessary now.

"Ah...Ahhhhh!" A low shout rose from my chest, escaping through my mouth. Every muscle was so taut that they felt like they co...

Announcement: Vacation time from 29th to 5th

This one is a little sooner than I would like, but I think it's for the best. To preface this -- I'm not feeling burnt out. But, on the other hand, I did write 60k words a week, usually around 10k a day for about three weeks... so, I think it's probably something I should nip in the bud before it becomes an actual problem. I'm sure once I actually stop for a bit, I'm going to realize I'm burnt out as all hell and I'd rather ease into that landing rather than crash and burn.

I woul...

Power Corrupts: Small Delights (ch. 63)

"It's not what it looks like, Mr. Jericho," Lili hastily said, looking up at me with wide eyes as she practically lunged for the book. I easily kept it out of reach just by raising an arm. "Mr. Jericho is being really mean right now!" She shouted at me, able to make up the difference in height. She had less luck prying it from my grip and ended up dangling from my wrist for a few seconds when she leapt up to the book before I realized that she was probably right.

"Sorry," I told her, tr...

Power Corrupts: Balance (ch. 62)

Balance was a difficult thing to achieve, I thought as I sat at the peak of the Throat of the World. It was simple to imagine -- someone walking across a tightrope, or a pen balanced on an edge. Or a small bubble being at the center of a leveler. Balance was a very simple thing to find but achieving it was far more difficult. After all, what did it mean to be balanced?

In an internal way, finding balance was more difficult. There were synonyms for it -- being at peace, or being in contr...

Power Corrupts: The Deal (ch. 61)

"You want an enchantment… that will make you… weaker?" Sergius questioned, sounding like he thought he misheard me. I guess that was a bit out of the blue after about a week of learning from him.

I nodded, "I know how it sounds, but a god's blessing is a bit of a double-edged sword. I can do things that few others can, push my limits beyond what normal mortals are capable of and so on. But, I need challenges. Things to push me to my limits and then some. And those are in short suppl...

See No Evil: Moving Up (ch. 28)

"You look the part, kid," Mr. Cobblepot informed me when I stepped into his office. He sat at the head of a long table, similar to the one that had been there when I stumbled here, shot a few times, but with drugs and money. "Never thought you'd get rid of that travesty of a haircut," he remarked, prompting me to reach up to make sure that the gel on my hair was still in place.

He was right though. My cheap, ill-fitted suit had been replaced with a tailored one. A wine-red dress shirt, ...

See No Evil: Lost and Found (ch. 27)

"So, just to be clear -- this is one of those things you're going to do anyway, and you're just telling me so I'll be in the loop, right?" Vergil questioned, leaning against the bar counter at Staircase while sitting in a seat. There was another cup of coffee in his hand -- it was becoming increasingly rare to see him without one. Only now he made them so strong they could be used as motor oil.

Tifa offered a smile, "Pretty much!" She confirmed, glad to see he got it. Their relationship...

"So… Waylon," I started as I unsealed a card after tossing it to the ground. "Are you sure you're… okay with this? I mean, I can find another way." I offered the massive reptilian person. We were in the metro tunnels, far off from our usual haunts, to deal with a problem that had been building for some time now.

Waylon slinked forward. He would have been invisible to me in the low light if it wasn't for a recent addition to my contacts. Everything was washed out, but I could see in ...

A Hard Knock Life: I Can't Help Myself (ch. 4)

“The No-Tell Motel,” Jackie read the sign as we walked towards the hotel. It was a short building compared to those that surrounded it, but it didn’t need to be tall. The name of the place flashed neon pink. “If there was a place to lay low at, then this would be it.”

I glanced at Jackie, eyeing how he took out his pistol. He had other options with what we looted at Lock’s place, but I guess he was just more familiar with what he had. “You know this place?” I asked, look...

A Hard Knock Life: The Boys of Summer (ch. 3)

I had watched Lock die. My friend. I watched him die trying to save my life. There had been no dramatic farewell. There was no moment where time seemed to slow down or anything like that. Just one moment where I realized that I was dead, and the next when I realized I was going to live, because Lock hadn't hesitated. He just… moved. There was no momentary bliss that I had managed to forget that fact. The moment consciousness returned to me, the thought slammed into me like a brick.

A Hard Knock Life: No Name (ch. 2)

I awoke to the harsh sound of an alarm blaring in my ear. No matter how tired I was, my body responded to old habits. Once I was up, then I was up. I swallowed a yawn as I pushed myself up, my back cracking with the action. A low groan escaped me as I shifted into a sitting position, my feet on the floor, while I rubbed gunk out of my eyes. Blinking away some blurriness, I looked down and saw that I had been so exhausted that I hadn't even managed to take off my boots before bed.

A Hard Knock Life: A Hard Knock Life (ch. 1)

Here is the refined first chapter to A Hard Knock Life. For the most part, I just cut out about two thousand words of needless exposition and padding, skipping right to the action. I also cleaned up the hacking scene to add more detail so it's less 'then I hacked them.'

There were some fights that you just weren’t meant to win. That couldn’t be won. It was hardly a new thought. People had been writing poems and singing songs about that same thought f...

Announcement: A Hard Knock Life (Worm/Cyberpunk 2077) Release Date

So, you know how I said it'll probably like a few months working on the story to build up a backlog? Yeah, that was a total lie apparently. For the past two weeks, I've just been pumping words out and ended up writing over 100k and 20 chapters. Don't ask me how I did it. I don't know either.

But, the good news is that A Hard Knock Life shall be released soon! This week soon. On January 14th, or this Thursday, the first chapter of AHKL will go live. It's an edited version, so some ...

Going Native: Desire for the End (ch. 66)

"The Warworld has been spotted, Lord Frieza," Ada'la heard someone relay, and a hint of tension eased out of her with the news. The message that Prince Tarble had sent out had reached everyone -- that the Warworld and its owner, Mongul, had attacked Thanagar. Just as the following news of Thanagar's theft had reached them. In the three days since Ada'la arrived, things had gotten rather… tense.

"Oh? I'd like to see it," Lord Frieza mused, lazily flicking his tail back and forth as it ...

I awoke with a start, clawing my way back to consciousness, because even in the blissful realm of unconsciousness, I knew every second counted. That there was simply too much to do for me to be down for the count. The Khundian empire had submitted and it would cause ripples across the galaxy. Mongul had been defeated. If we found a way to utilize the Warworld, then that was another powerful tool on our side.

I couldn't give them to her because my hands were encased in Nth Metal. As her hand dipped down, Mongul sprung into action, as did Vegeta.
