"I'm going to need either the Jarl or Maven-" I started, fishing for a hostage to bring back. The plan was to use them to convince Ulfric that Nocturnal was taking the offer to break bread seriously, and maybe have the hostage speak in favor of the idea. But, that was probably going to backfire on me. The Jarl was an absolute mess and I can't imagine Maven would be impartial.
"Take Maven. Please," Nocturnal interjected. Almost as if she had asked me to take the woman off of her hands. A...

"Are you heading down there alone?" Mjoll questioned as I was led to one of the many entrances to the underway. It looked like a sewer tunnel with a grate over it, one that had rusted away after years of being exposed to the sea. I glanced at her to find that she was frowning, not liking the idea of it.
I could only shrug in response, "They'll be less likely to fight if they just see one person. And saying that I'm here on familia business would mean less if I'm surrounded by people tha...

"Alright. Fine. Take it from the top -- what in the hell happened?" I sighed, considering whether to turn around and march straight back home. Sheogorath said the clock was moving on my time, right? It should be fine. I could totally go home, relax with Hestia, then deal with this shit later. But, given my source for that information was quite literally the embodiment of insanity, the information was pretty suspect. So, I resisted the urge.
Barely.
Farkas shrugged before he nodded...

It didn't feel real as I read the headlines. It was all over the news in Gotham, each telling the same story. The Blackgaters, the king of East End, had been toppled and it was now a race for the throne. Articles about the number of arrests made, articles praising the Bat-family and the police. Jim Gordan was nominated to receive a medal by the city council. Pictures of the Bat-family were posted online and gossip and rumors were spiraling out of control.
But, for every good thing, ther...

"Oh, hell," Jim Gordon cursed as he saw the envelope marked with 'From a Concerned Citizen' with no return address that was delivered in his mailbox. The postal service would have destroyed any fingerprints on the outside, but the inside was still a possibility. Swallowing a sigh, he pulled out a pair of rubber gloves that he kept on his person at all times -- after years of being a cop and the police commissioner, you learn that a crime could happen anywhere and everywhere in Gotham.

"It's been a while. How have you been?" I asked, keeping myself calm. It was rather frightening how used I was getting with guns being pointed at me. In response, Jeremiah grabbed me by the jacket and slung me into a wall. My back hit it with a solid thump, but I was more focused on the gun being jabbed in my face and the expression of utter fury on Jeremiah's face. I kept any emotion off my face as I clenched my hands -- beneath my gloves were two cards: Murder Weapon and my pistol.

Having a Nth metal mace opened up a lot of doors for Shayera, and not just because she was knocking them down. Outside of Thanagar, the metal was mythical to those that knew about it at all. And the Frieza-force, more specifically Tarble’s empire, most certainly knew about the metal. Some had tried to take it from her. They had failed and in doing so, they made themselves great examples to those that witnessed not to try again.
Shayera looked down at her mace, having been without it f...

Fasha sighed, the sound nearly drowned out by the sounds of war. She hovered above a city, ready to throw herself into the mix if needed. Her kids, her army, were strong but so were their enemies. As much as Fasha would love throwing herself headfirst into the fight, she wasn't Tarble who could somehow be aware of the entire battlefield no matter how deep in a fight he got. It was easy to chalk it up as more Tarble weirdness, though, and Tarble she was not.
If she got involved in the fi...

Long before it declared war on the Trade Organization -- in a poorly thought out attempt of theft, it proved itself unwilling to protect its citizens when Lord Frieza demanded rightful compensation for the empire's deeds. It sacrificed vassals and citizens alike to maintain its standing." The lies tasted bitter on my tongue, especially con...

I swallowed a sigh as I leaned against the doorframe, crossing my arms and observing. Komand'r stood at the command center, a long hologram displaying the Citadelian homeworld and what was known about their defenses. Flanking the table were holograms of the pirates that we had subjugated. None of them looked happy to be there, and even if they couldn’t see me, they could feel my presence.
This was an important step. Komand’r could rule her people well enough. It was difficult to tel...

I felt about ready to take on the entire world when I rolled out of bed, thoroughly satisfied. Dibella and Hestia were left laying on the covers, both driven to the point of exhaustion. In Hestia's case, endurance had been an issue for some time now, but in Dibella's case, the spirit was willing but the body had limitations that she wasn't used to. Towards the end, I was stuck relying on old tricks to drag the pleasure out a little longer, but I was thoroughly tapped.

“We have to do something about the prisoners, Vergil,” Tifa muttered to me about a week later. A week after our raids on the Blackgaters, hitting dozens of their safe houses and fronts. A week since the stability in East End collapsed. And a week since we took prisoners of the original group that started this entire mess. “We just can’t keep them here forever, you know?”
I nodded absentmindedly, having considered the question myself constantly during the past week. I leaned ag...

There was a sense of power that came with being a hero. It wasn’t anything like Emperor Palpatine shouting ‘unlimited powahh’ at the top of his lungs, but it was more of… a slow creeping sense of empowerment. When you were constantly in dangerous situations that would kill a normal person in about a second flat, and not only did you survive, but you saved other people’s lives while kicking the butt of the person that made that dangerous situation…
You felt powerful. Because ...

I didn't have dreams anymore. I noticed it a while ago, back when I had been unable to shake off the habit of sleeping. Ever since I became the Gamer, I lost the ability to dream. It was just like turning a light switch on or off. But, on a plus side, it meant that I couldn't have nightmares.
Opening my eyes, I felt like a weight had been removed from me despite the fact an actual weight was pressing down on me as Hestia snoozed on top of me. Sleeping was unnecessary and a waste of arou...

I could only perform the same trick so many times, it would seem, I thought about a half dozen safe houses later. Phones did unfortunately exist, so the Blackgaters did eventually pick up on the fact that in the past hour that at least eighteen of their fronts and safehouses had been hit. I saw proof of that when I saw people being kicked out of a small restaurant.
The Blackgaters who owned the place started closing off blinds to block any view of those inside. Just not before ...

Old habits died hard, Shayera realized as she found herself sprinting towards trouble instead of away from it. Explosions rang out across the upper plate that divided Thangar -- the cities built on the upper plate were metropolis unlike any in the universe. Everything that wasn't on the upper plate was slums.
But, because they were on the upper plate the response was uniform -- military service was mandatory for all full citizens of Thangar. Members of her species flew low through the s...
