Hearing you in Nick930's Battlefield documentary was a nice surprise, how did that come about?

Nick reached out likely because we'd already talked in the past. Dude's one of the hardest working Youtubers I've seen, and his video quality is fantastic. I still don't know how he got Rainbow Six (1998) to look so good.

Raycevick's Recommendations: Bonetones by Michael Wyckoff

While I may not care for Boneworks as a single-player campaign, I can't deny some of its music sticks in my brain and won't leave. Michael Wyckoff does a superb job making hummable tunes where it's action, ambient, or chill.

There's a separate Ambient Only soundtrack for the game by A K O getting a lot less attention, and while it's got some nice soundscapes to write to, Michael definitely steals the show. In his own video, he said his main goal was melody, and he succeeded with flying ...

Fantasy (+Quick Update)

Hello everybody!

Unfortunately, my last content of the year won't be a video… I've gotten the thumbs up from developers I consulted on the pre-production segment, so now it's mostly about adding the refinements and waiting for the intro to be rendered. I'd love to have everything done for the weekend, but it's probably going to be the first week.

Let's get something out for everybody in a free Randomly Mine before the New Year though (in my Timezone, I know...

Thoughts on Mario Kart?

Man, I miss it. Haven't played it with a local group of friends in years, but I still have many memories of Mario Kart Double Dash on the Gamecube. So much shouting at friend while laughing.

Raycevick's Recommendations: The Sopranos

I'm making this recommendation while I'm just in the first season.

The Sopranos is easily one of the most finely crafted and (oddly) inspirational shows I've watched in some time. While growing up with the program as a kid and letting it teach me how to swear, the sheer amount of nuances in all of its subjects and characters is timeless.

The most impressive thing about the show though, is all of its amazing quality is done with means that anybody with any TV budget could accomplis...

No Randomly Mine Today...

As it's Christmas Eve, my two options before visiting family are working on the video, or writing a Randomly Mine, and as much as there's thing for me to talk about... I think I know which one takes priority.

My apologies, but it's so close...

Hope you all have a wonderful Holiday!

Raycevick's Recommendations: The Italian Job (1969)

The Italian Job's one of those movies from the 1960s that doesn't feel like something from the 1960s... well, maybe in regards to its cars, gags, and general atmosphere, but from a filmmaking standpoint, it's still one of the best looking, one of the most intelligently paced, and one of the most bombastic action adventure films of its time.

Some of the shots are absolutely spectacular to this day, and despite being edited in a time before non-linear editing on computers, it's cuts, gags...

A Journey in Halo

So how are y'all enjoying Halo Infinite? I've been too busy to complete it yet, but I think I'm in the home stretch, and so far, there's lots of things I really love about it. I don't think the sandbox has ever been this strong. The combination of enemy types, vehicles, equipment, weapons, and ways to approach objectives is fantastic, and the peak of any Halo game, even including the all-time greats,...

What is the top thing you wish people would stop asking you about, and/or associating you with?

Hmm, back in the day, people were really quick to push me as a Halo Youtuber. It's not that I'm ungrateful for getting my start on YT in large part thanks to the Halo Fanbase, but I was being tagged in discussions regarding art-style debates and the like, I just couldn't be bothered. I said my piece on the games, and would come back to them ...

Raycevick's Recommendations: Gold by Whores

Yeah, it's fun to write the band's name without context, but I feel like this group was made for me. Edgy, fast-paced, bass & fuzz pedal heavy riffs, with just enough angry vocals to pump you up without sounding like the Cookie Monster.

While the group's classified as Noiserock, I think there's real emphasis on the Rock. The riffs are just superb. The only problem with the band's work so far is while they've got the aggression, it is a little much to listen front to...

When's the last time you made a friend over an online game?

For me, it was 2018ish, playing a game of Squad with a group of friends I met on Halo 2 back in 2006. We were crawling on the ground slowly concrete walls, because an enemy APC was furiously hunting us down. This 10+ minute cat and mouse chase was looking to be concluded when suddenly, a friend tank arrived and saved our collective ass...

Raycevick's Recommendations: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (2nd Gig)

I've held off on recommending Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex as I hadn't seen it in years, and are currently rewatching it with a friend. Doing so has confirmed my thoughts. While Season 1's very good, 2nd Gig, is the reason to watch.

Everything's elevated, voice-actors sound more comfortable in their roles, the visuals look great to this day,  and the variety in subject matter and styles of storytelling is just head and shoulders above the original... and Motoko doesn't ha...

Favourite Forza Horizon intro/initial race?

I'm honestly not the biggest fan of showcases in-general as they really are just Time Trials that are hopelessly forgiving. My vote would likely go to Horizon 2 merely for it being the very first once I ever experienced.

Hey everybody,

It's the end of the month, so as the final month begins, here's the current status on Metro Exodus Years Later... the yellow indicates all the footage that's been placed. It's normal for me to save development sections for later as they're often the most tedious and most disliked by Adobe's "optimization."

We're about 60-70% there.

Raycevick's Recommendations: Never Be Content EP by Innerpartysystem

Electronic Music generally seems to lean towards this pho-inspirational life improvement positivity angle. Like folk music for a new-age and I don't care for most of it. Not because I've got a cold lump of coal where my heart's supposed to be... promise, I wouldn't have recommend an M83 album in the past were that the case. It can be done well, most of it just comes across as insincere.

Innerpartysystem were a group that on this EP, managed to outdo most electronic groups with phenomena...

Speed

I've heard the 20th Century be dubbed "The Century of Speed" and it makes sense. In 100 years, we went from horse and carts to Supercars, Jet Fighters, and Spaceships. Quite the turnaround. However, I'm thinking the title should maybe be moved to the 21st Century. Not because of the vehicles and aircraft, those are quick but have honestly kind of stagnated… no, the title should be reserved for the ...

Raycevick's Recommendations: My Name

Yeah, you've likely heard and seen Squid Game already... I'm going to save that recommendation for later to give to people who avoided it due to its sheer popularity. However, Korea's got lots of other things to offer and My Name is one of them.

Now, I wouldn't describe this show as perfect. I've told friends that episodes would have me hating it one moment and loving it ten seconds later. It's chaotic, but an ultimately enjoyable show for its compelling characters, intriguing premise, ...

What Changed?

Halo Infinite.

I'm REALLY enjoying it!

I can't even put my finger on it necessarily, because very little has changed since the Technical Test that didn't impress me much. Gamepad feels more refined, less inconsistencies in aim accuracy. Couple weapons have been subtly tweaked for balancing purposes it seems. There's weapons that previously weren't available such as the Disruptor, Mangler,...

Raycevick's Recommendations: Escape from New York

Christ, Kojima. You could've at least waited five minutes before ripping off this movie, and he doesn't stop there. I'd be lying to say I enjoyed every second of Escape from New York, it doesn't hold up as well as classics like Indiana Jones from a character or storytelling standpoint, but in terms of sheer mood and atmosphere, this films' still an absolute marvel.

What do you think about video game pricing? Is the AAA price of $80-90 CAD justifiable or bullshit? Should games with shorter campaigns be priced cheaper?

Games haven't caught up with inflation for years, and really, $10 isn't going to be a make it or break it deal for me and I think most customers. "$10 off" in sales is usually only appealing when the game's already $20. For your follow up question though, no.

Raycevick's Recommendations: All Out EP by KDA

It's reported that 50% of KDA's listeners have never touched League of Legends, and I guess I'm one of them. It's interesting to see the conflict KDA generates, as I do understand the cynicism in a big evil corporation making a virtual pop group using the constantly vague themes of empowerment.

However, while it's vapid and vague lyricisms don't give each song much to delve into, each is an expertly crafted banger with memorable melodies, distinct atmosphere, and a surprising amount of ...

Raycevick's Recommendations: Quake

I've previously recommend the original Quake's NIN soundtrack for it's beautifully dark ambience, but recommending the game itself was always less of a priority because of the steps required to get it up and running properly, but thanks to Nightdive Studios, that's no longer the case.

Quake's now even more accessible than the original DOOM, with integration of its soundtrack, full widescreen support, easy to run Multiplayer options including co-op, and enhanced visuals to make its gothi...
