What are your favorites games that have been pretty much lost to time?

Lots of them have been mentioned in videos. FEAR, Max Payne 2, Burnout Revenge. It's honestly a little strange to even see those types of games be gone when they were so heavily discussed back upon release but that's life. I remember when Hitman and Splinter Cell fans were complaining about the exact same thing, who would've thought that Hitman would've ultimately b...

Raycevick's Recommendations: Jurassic Park

Would you believe me if I told you I hadn't seen this movie until two weeks ago? I've got a lot of movie sins, and this is one of them, and it was a pointless one too, because I absolutely loved Jurassic Park. The editing, acting, shot composition, score, pacing, dialogue, characters, it's multiple things come together in a superb package.

Don't make my mistake of sitting this one out if you have, it deserves a watch, or multiple.

Humbling

I've theorized for the past three years that the only way DICE could rekindle hype for a new Battlefield title was announce Bad Company 3. Battlefield V's a game whose reputation seems to change with every rotation of the Earth, but one thing's for certain, it was the most controversial title in the series to date.

I've stick by this belief with the assumption that Bad Company 2's had enough time to pass for it to become nostalgic. It's a game before microtransactions were the norm; bef...

Lance Stroll WDC 2022?

I imagine Sebastian Vettel would be the one to take the title fight were Aston Martin to have a competitive car in 2022, but Stroll's not nearly as bad as people gave him shit for, and I think that really occurred to people when Mazepin came in.

Raycevick's Recommendations: A Knights Tale

I've just come off of watching Legend, the duo Biopic where the duo's soloed by Tom Hardy and it's... mixed. There's some good scenes in there, but there's also a lot of tedious pacing, weak themes, and (I don't say this often) pretentious writing.

It's honestly kind of interesting how a big budget, highly ambitious multi year epic gangster film is less entertaining than this ancient cheese fest known as A Knights Tale but it honestly is, and it's mostly down to the charismatic cast. View Post

"Why Don't I Play This More Often?"

It's a question I've often asked, and normally when playing a game, it doesn't take long to figure out why it'd make me ask that. There's games like Hover, with an excellent core-gameplay loop that's intoxicating, and utterly wasted through tedious structure and repetitive missions.

There's games like BallisticNG which are absolutely supreme from top to bottom in presentation, gameplay, and style... but is echoing something I didn't grow up with, and therefore, is something I more have ...

Status Report: June 2nd, 2021

Hey everybody,

I know the immediate question. Where's the content been? In the bin, mostly. It really doesn't feel like June to me. Though nothing's been released, a lot has been done, just unfortunately, not in regards to releasing content. Mostly, cancelled projects, and depressing personal matters that I'd rather not delve into here, as it's not the place for it.

This isn't Therapy, this is meant to clarify what's going on behind the scenes.

Luckily, what's above...

Grappling Hooks. They always make videogames better, so when you've got a game like Sky Noon's whose entire gameplay premise is an unlimited grappling hook, you're off to a good start.

It's a First Person Shooter, but kills aren't earned through headshots or pumping the enemy full of led until they fall to the ground, their earned when the enemy falls off the map. Weapons push enemies back, hit them enough times, and their out of bounds.

So First Person Smash Brothers with Guns, G...

Software is Shit

The first video I ever made was on my Mother's 2006 Macbook. The software was iMovie, and the hardware used to record gameplay footage was a Camcorder with RCA jacks, letting me plug it into the TV and use its tapes to capture Halo 2 gameplay.

Yup, somewhere out there are physical tapes with butchered Halo 2 gameplay by a twelve year old.

To be perfectly honest, I don't recall what the editing experience was like, I've forgotten entire years, I'm not going to recall what keyboard ...

So uhhh… Mass Effect Legendary, any change of opinions on ME1 (or the trilogy) over time or in comparison with the remaster?

Haven't played ME1 Legendary Edition yet, but I'm curious, because I'm not in the camp of people who couldn't get into it. I've played that game 4-5 times and have grown to like it more and more each playthrough compared to the sequels which have steadily declined in enjoyment per-playthrough.

Raycevick's Recommendations: Knocking on Heaven's Door Ask DNA by Seatbelts

To be blunt, I could just put Cowboy Bebop's Complete OST on this recommendation, but not only is that hours and hours of material to put upon people, it overshadows some of the overlooked album releases, like this one.

This EP takes multiple songs that were exclusive to the film Knocking on Heaven's Door, but missing on previous CDs. What results is a quick album that covers the entire emotional spectrum. From the imminently catchy Ask DNA and Cosmic Dare to the stirr...

Notes

For years I've had a notebook. It's positively packed with all the things you'd expect one to contain. Horrible lines for movies that'll never be made. Thoughts the person who wrote them doesn't remember writing. And passwords! 'Cause there's always that one using a phrase you thought was memorable, and forgot five seconds after typing it.

Thing is, I've never reached the final page of it and realistically I should have. Things like the Mass Effect Andromeda video have 5-7 pages worth o...

Some people have expressed dismay at how No Man’s sky’s updates made the gameplay less unique/more like other games. Similar complaints to siege. With that set up, how important should it be that updates/DLC for a game don’t alter it too much. Is there a limit to adding/changing base gameplay in order to avoid alienating players attracted by an initial premise?

I think Fortnite unfortunately has shown to everybody how effective that can be som...

Raycevick's Recommendations: Hell Let Loose

I've always said the Military Shooter Squad is a game that's 90% bullshit you play for the 10% that's amazing. Well, Hell Let Loose is here to severely heighten the fun ratio. It's still janky, slow, and with respawn times longer than your average flight, but the action is much more concentrated, and just as intense.

Getting this with a group of friends is a riot of yelling, strategy, and teamwork where unlike many games of this type, 4-6 people really can turn...

Repeat

One of the things I'm always fearful of when writing these posts is repeating myself. I know it's definitely happened, everyone repeats their loves, beliefs, and irritations to some degree, but never to the point of copy + pasting entire articles without realizing it. On the flip side to that however, repetition isn't always a sin.

Nine Inch Nails repeated the stylings of their most popular album, The Downward Spiral, for their 2013 release, Hesitation Marks. It captured the albums them...

What game do you think is overhated?

Anything that's led to people attacking developers personally. Mass Effect: Andromeda, Cyberpunk 2077, Dragon Age 2, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. I understand games aren't cheap, and we care about games because we love them, but even the most abysmal, and appalling game is not worth going beyond a forum post over.

Raycevick's Recommendations: Post by Bjork

I don't know what inclines me to finally play, watch, and listen to famous works of art. The reason I put on Bjork's sophomore album, is because I was going through old Top Gear songs on Spotify, heard "Hyperballed" and thought "Oh yeah, I've been meaning to try that."

Right from the first track "Army of Me" to the finale "Headphones", there's a good reason why this album's so renowned. It's expertly crafted, beautifully paced, and is an emotional rollercoaster. As calming as it is thri...

Endless Modes

For those who grew up with PC Server Browsers, you almost certainly encountered one that hosted a single map and mode till the end of time. One that had nothing to do with balance, gameplay flow, or suitable team dynamics. More often than not, they were a scream fest, both from in-game character deaths, and real-life microphone users.

And... these had a beauty to them.

A beauty I was reminded of recently when playing custom matches on Titanfall 2, where we accidently stumbled upon...

What game do you think would benefit from having combat removed from it all together and why?

Get Even's combat is just hilariously horrendous from top to bottom. It's so strange for a game to have such a compelling narrative and yet so little to offer in gameplay. Raycevick's Recommendations: Leon The Professional

Sometimes you just watch a movie that is so exceedingly good, you've gotta shout at the credits with a friend about how good it was. That's Leon for me. The writer/director might've been coasting between projects, but it is a career defining film for nearly everyone involved.

It's edgy, profound, violent, and beautiful, all at the same time.

I didn't watch the movie until just a couple days ago, and I'd advise you don't wait like I did.

Given your past experience and reference to Ironsight when talking about the CoD series, what aspects can the Call of Duty franchise learn from Ironsight?

I've always advocated for just making Steady Aim the default hip-fire accuracy, perhaps even enhancing it. Adding one extra insignificant step to gunfights shouldn't be what determines the outcome, especially at close range. I'm not somebody who thinks ADS should be axed entirely, but way ga...

Welcome to my addiction for the past week. Now I know what you're thinking, this is only for Motorsport fans, like Football Manager appeals to people who follow proper leagues... maybe it is, but what steers me away from Football Manager isn't that I couldn't possibly care about Soccer (I used to play it), but more the sheer magnitude of things to make decisions on.

What would you like to see come to the mobile market the most and why?

Midnight Club 3's a game you can play in bite sized chunks or for hours on end, with perfectly approachable arcade controls, power ups, that already existed on the PSP, let alone a more powerful phone that could outclass the Nintendo Switch.

Raycevick's Recommendations: New in Town by John Mulaney

I've got an angsty teenager living inside my head. It blasts 2000s NuMetal, 90's action movies,  and edgy comedians from both decades. That doesn't mean however, I only enjoy comics who spout the word cunt every other joke, and John Mulaney's New in Town is a special that's always stood out to me.

There's an issue in gaming related to content, but surprisingly, it's not actually the lack of content, as popular of an issue as that might be with gamers. Rather, the issue is the development of content itself.
