I’m extremely happy! 🌟😄🎉 I finally finished all 25 drawings for the e-book commission 🧡 Most of them are mix of traditional pencil and digital sketch.
The most difficult was to:
1. Design illustrations based on specific e-book pages and chapters. They were usually abstract, psychological themes.
2. Find proper photos (plus take my own) and then combine them into collages to have references for my illustrations...

This chapter of the book is about violence in relationships.
About a cycle in which the abuser begins to feel guilty after a violent attack and apologizes (to commit violence again after the tension phase). The cycle will never stop if the victim won’t decide to leave. The only rescue for the abuser (from himself or herself) is long-term therapy. The drawing illustrates an apology with flowers that the victim applies to a painful wound.

I’ve been painting this for several hours now (I started with a quick sketch about 2 months ago, than took a loooong break and started again yesterday). When I look at piece for such a long time I almost always start to hate it... Can you look with a fresh eye and tell me what you think?
I’m pretty happy with the ambient but my full illustrations are still kinda naive so I’m not sure if I should share it with the world on this stage.

I made the first sketch on April 2019 and second one yesterday. They’re based on the same reference photo from Pinterest.
I like both drawings. There are differences in proportions but I never try to to achieve perfect accuracy in quick sketches so it doesn’t matter. There are differences in style but sketches aren’t made on the same type of paper so the comparison is not so obvious.

I think that flexibility and the ability to create in different styles is extremely important for artists.
Of course my style evolves by itself through time but sometimes I play with the process.
Here you can see few sketches from one reference. The most inconspicuous but also the most difficult for me is the cartoon style. You have to be able to use a very small number of values, but so that you can still recognize a given character.

I created few line works from my drawings. You can use them as coloring pages or templates to practice crosshatching and shading 😊
I think it’s very important to practice last stages without any pressure that you’ll ruin your drawing. (Not every time of course but sometimes 😁).
You can just print the template or use it as a digital layer and go crazy with experiments 🤪

I made this drawing as an exercise a while ago. I know many artists are into photorealism but for me there is no point in creating only in this style. If I would like to achieve photorealistic effect I would just take a photo 📷 😄
Anyway it’s great exercise to study proportions, understand lightening and to practice shading techniques 😊

Someone once wrote my a DM about how the same and boring are the face expressions of my characters.
At first I was like “WTF!” and deleted a message (🤦♀️) but few minutes later I thought “damn... she’s right... I should be happy she wrote me”.
