At the end of the first half, Lin Yi—who had pretty much thrown the pass button out the window—had already taken 24 shots, hitting 10 of them, and padded his total with free throws and threes. By halftime, he’d already poured in 27 points.
Celtics head coach Doc Rivers had figured out what the Knicks were trying to do, but even knowing that, he didn’t dare mess with his rotations. Garnett had managed to hold Lin Yi to just 41.6% shooting, and in a game this tight, Rivers chose t...

On May 4, at TD Garden, the Celtics’ home crowd roared, creating the kind of hostile atmosphere only Boston can. Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals tipped off between the Knicks and Celtics.
“The Knicks dropped Game 1,” Kenny Smith noted on the broadcast. “What do you think their adjustment needs to be tonight, Charles?”
Barkley grunted, shaking his head. “First and foremost, defense. Their defense in Game 1 was nowher...

Just as Knicks fans were hoping their team could cause some trouble for the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals…
The Knicks got smoked.
Final score: 88–114.
Lin Yi finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists, but shot just 4-for-17 from the field. And seven of those points were from free throws. Naturally, that was the number the media latched onto after the game.
“Lin,” a reporter began, “what do you think happened out there? ...

Next stop: the Conference Semifinals.
The Knicks will kick off their Eastern Conference semifinals against the Celtics on May 1st, while the Cavaliers and Magic square off on May 3rd. Cleveland, of course, will be looking for revenge after...

February 28 – Fifth Round of the FA Cup
Arsenal maintained their strong run of form as they knocked Blackburn Rovers out of the FA Cup.
But the win didn’t come easily.
For the full 90 minutes, Arsenal were relentless in attack. Yet up against Blackburn’s rigid 5-4-1 low block, the Gunners found it nearly impossible to create real scoring chances inside the penalty area.
In the 70th minute, Podolski came off, and Wenger turned to Arshavin once aga...

“Who built a wall in the middle of the field?

He don’t dive, he don’t yield!

The Gunners cheer and rivals squeal—
‘Cause Kai’s the boss with boots of steel!

The Knicks had just swept the Heat, and Knicks fans were still busy celebrating when an even bigger surprise dropped — before the second round of the playoffs even began.
When the NBA announced the 2009–10 season awards, one man dominated the headlines, crashing social media and sparking another frenzy of takes, memes, and debates.
That man was, of course, Lin Yi.

April 20th, Game 2 of the Knicks–Heat first-round series tipped off at Madison Square Garden.
Tonight, however, there were two particularly high-profile spectators sitting courtside: Kentucky’s dynamic duo from the March Madness Final Eight — John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins.
Cousins, grinning like a kid at Christmas, made a beeline for Lin Yi during warmups.
“Lin! Hey man, can I get your autograph? And uh… think I could train with y...

After the final regular season game, Lin Yi could finally let his body — and his mind — relax. For the first time in months, he felt himself loosen up. That constant tension, that edge, finally gave way to a quiet sense of accomplishment.
Dinner with teammates was celebratory but low-key. Back at his villa, Lin Yi couldn’t help himself — he pulled up the Knicks’ internal stats portal to take it all in.
The numbers told quite the story: 82 starts in 82 games, averaging 35...

New York, April 18.
After five long years, the Knicks were finally back in the Eastern Conference playoffs — and Madison Square Garden was absolutely rocking. Tonight, the Mecca of Basketball turned into a white sea of roaring fans clad in Knicks home whites, nearly 20,000 strong, chanting in unison:
“M-V-P! M-V-P! M-V-P!”
By now, the Knicks players had gotten used to the frenzy Lin Yi caused whenever he stepped on the court, but it ne...

In the Arsenal dressing room at half-time, Walcott raised his voice. "We’re too predictable going forward—we’re not breaking them down."
"There’s no support for the forwards," Podolski added, his frustration clear. "We’re having to drop deep to collect the ball, and by the time we do, Bayern are already in a defensive shape outside their box."
Having once worn Bayern’s shirt before being cast aside, Podolski had a point to...

That defensive moment was a statement.
It told Robben and Bayern Munich that they wouldn’t be allowed to dominate Arsenal’s left flank so easily.

Billy grumbled from his seat in the stands.
Tickets for tonight’s match were through the roof. Champions League knockout rounds and A-tier fixtures had jacked prices up nearly fourfold. At this point, you’d be hard-pressed to find a pricier home ticket in all of London, let alone the Premier League.
Still, grumble or not, he’d paid for it.

Second quarter.
Almost as soon as play resumed, Lin Yi went down hard, clutching his knee in pain after an awkward bump from the Jazz’s young guard, Ronnie Price.
At first, the pain was very real. Lin’s system kicked in and started quietly repairing the damage, but even so, it was clear how bad the knock was. The kind of injury that, without his system, might’ve ended his night.
Lin just stayed down for a bit, catching his breath.
On the Knicks...

Lin Yi and Mehmet Okur, a Turkish, stepped into the circle for the tip. On the first jump, Okur feinted but quickly pulled back, clearly wiser after being beaten in their last meeting.
The Knicks, unusually, sent their point guard to take the tip, though this was no ordinary guard. At 221 cm with shoes on, Lin Yi drew chuckles from the crowd as he won the ball and called for it back to set up the offense.

Lin Yi won the opening tip against Stoudemire, and the Knicks got first possession.
Pat Ewing Jr. brought the ball across halfcourt, and Lin moved up to the high post to receive it.
Watching from the sidelines, Gentry frowned.
If he had any guts, Lin thought, he’d start Amar’e at center and go small with shooters all around. That’d at least force me to defend in space.
