Online conservatives claim that left-wing politics are the result of feminization caused by consuming everything from soy milk to tap water. And while there are endocrine disrupting chemicals in seemingly everything --a fact that should set off alarm bells for the left, right and center-- this feels like a mostly insufficient explanation.
In recent years, the internet culture wars have focused on sensational stories like B...

Last week l published a piece in The Guardian. It circulated a lot.
In just over 1 year, we've managed to take these topics from a podcast of ~1500 listeners to the #1 opinion piece in front of an audience of millions. We are successfully building a platform for this research material while putting forward an uncompromising analysis of meme culture from an explicitly left-wing perspective.

I thought this would be a short side project. But 15 hours and 39 minutes later, I feel very certain that we are the only people on the whole internet who have looked up every term.
The earlier tiers are straight forward enough. Its a good primer for people who are new to this world of fringe internet politics. The middle tiers get really weird-- really quickly. I think Episode 4 was some of the most fun I've had on the stream. The final tiers have little to no historic...

I've dedicated the last few years of my practice to an expansive research project; exploring the ways in which social media is shaping political ideation among gen Z. After many encounters with academics, researchers, organizers, consultants and journalists-- I feel confident in saying that no one else has the story quite right. Memes are aesthetic, political, historical, ideological, viral, infrastructural and more. Any analysis that cannot account for all of these overlapping fields will in...

Last week I published a short piece in The Guardian, summarizing my thoughts on influence, content creation and its overflow into real world politics. I want to share some additional topics that were too disparate or nuanced for a mass audience.
• Post-Political Era
In the post-1989 era, we came up in a world without ideology. As young people now look to organize, they find themselves in unique historical circumstances with few political options. The ISO (Intern...

In the last year I've had an on-going dialogue with journalist Nathan Taylor Pemberton on the topics of gen Z social media and counter messaging from the left.
The last few years have dramatically reshaped legacy, alt and social media. As mainstream platforms become increasing sanitized, made to work for big brands and establishment parties, counter-politics and counter-culture will move off platform into "dark forest" spaces.
