Sometimes I'm too distracted, uninspired or stressed to study an expression before proceeding to the coloring stage. Coloring allows me to shut down the brain while hands work nearly by their own, so I'm often eager to reach that stage and rush the previous ones... which forces me to spend muuuch more time fixing all the mistakes I notice...

Before the actual wips you see in the gallery, I had spent some time on a colored sketch to test the overall composition and lights. I do this more and more often as it shows the potential of the final piece and gives me confidence in the process that is going to follow.
See below how I tested pose and colors on the first sketch and later redid everything, polished colors and defined highlights/shadows before starting with the rendering!

This was supposed to be Kaeya's birthday art but I didn't want to rush it in a day so I forced myself to stop working on it until two days ago. I've redrawn and rendered the previous sketch and I'm so happy I took the time I needed for my boy 💙 I missed drawing Kaeya!

This has been a different, and somehow weird kind of process. Instead of the clean lineart and my usual layering of Multiply shadow layers and Color Dodge highlights, I've slapped colors on canvas when there were sketchy lines only and went straight into rendering.
