Chapter 27 - Ambition

The march back to Haluville was uneventful. Reivyn was back on his own two feet, and he marched alongside Teilon with the rest of the levies. Sergeant Mok led a small detail consisting a few corporals, the drummers, and a supply wagon. The levies kept their gambeson's and spears, Reivyn included. He had traded his gear out for convenience's sake. They marched in a proper formation, as everyone having the March Skill meant it was a smooth transit.

Sergeant Mok had explained th...

Chapter 26 - Table Manors

Reivyn looked at the silver and copper coins in his hand. He had just received his pay for the conscription and the bonuses. On top of getting a combat pay bonus, his squad also received two additions to their pay from the requisition of the silver ore on their two Dungeon delves. He looked up at Corporal Decker who had just passed out the coins to the squad.

"Corporal, this is too much," he said. The men received their pay monthly, and it was about a silver's worth of copper...

Chapter 25 - Looking Forward

The trees lining the road offered shade in the mid-summer heat as the troops made their return trip to Magron. Reivyn marvelled at the sights and sounds all around him, his head constantly twisting and turning about. He was surprised that the change in perspective from riding a horse compared to walking on his own two feet was so pronounced. Not only was he able to easily peer over everyone's heads to gaze into the depths of the woods at will, but even if he had been as free to look around wh...

Chapter 24 - Smooth Transition

Reivyn concentrated his willpower as he controlled his mana. It was getting easier to quickly and accurately form the desired shapes he conjured with his mana. He was staring at an arrow held in his left hand while he mimicked its shape and balance to the best of his ability with water-attuned mana in his right. Having a medium to focus on had greatly enhanced his ability to maintain a consistent shape and uniformity in mana density.

He had originally thought far too simply a...

Chapter 22 - A Ring of Fire

The Sun was setting in the horizon, casting the landscape in shades of orange, as Reivyn and his squad mates finally exited the dungeon and returned to the pallisade. The daylight in dungeon had never shifted, and the incongruence was disorienting for a moment before he got his bearings.

The men made a sorry sight as they came limping through the barricade supporting each other. Bandages and dried blood adorned almost the entire squad. The sentries standing post at the ...

Chapter 21 - Down Into...

Reivyn's heart pounded in his chest as his squad approached the Dungeon in the center of the compound. The entrance to the Dungeon was a cave set into a butte. Reivyn had only glanced at it in passing, before a small barricade had gone up around the entrance, and he had seen that it wasn't dark inside the cave. It looked like it passed through a tunnel that didn't exist on the outside before opening back into the countryside.

The sentries at the front of the barricade checked...

Change in Tiers

I got some great advice, and decided to just get rid of the $12.50 and $20.00 Tiers. The $5 Tier is bumped up to 5 early chapters, and $10 is now 50 early chapters. The $30.00 Tier remains, as that is the "gratuity" Tier.

Benefits

Read 1 free chapter ahead. Villager Tier gets 1 additional Chapter beyond the first free chapter. Champion gets 5, and Sword Saint gets 50.

Chapter 20 - Aide and Attendance

Reivyn stood in formation once again. The men had been told during morning chow that there was an all hands formation where Knight-Captain Reifold would be addressing everyone. As was the case with every military formation called in the history of ever, the men were formed up early and had to wait past the appointed time for the officer to show up.

Evidence of the struggle from the previous day could be spotted everywhere. The strewn about gear and bird bodies had long since ...

Reivyn looked down at the blade that was pressing into his stomach. It didn't penetrate, as the momentum of the thrust had been interrupted by another man appearing and grabbing the blade, holding it steadily in place. The newcomer had casually slashed the assassin's throat as he appeared like the wind. It wasn't immediately fatal, and with his high vitality, if the assassin could escape and reach a medic in time, he could live.

The veiled man activated the same action, be it...

Chapter 18 - Cooped Up

Reivyn sat up in an unfamiliar tent. People were rushing about tending to a steady stream of wounded people brought into the tent in various levels of distress. Some were being supported by their comrades as they limped in under their own strength, and some were being carried in on gurneys or slung over shoulders. He quickly realized that he was in the field infirmary.

Reivyn jumped up and, vaguely remembering a claw slash to his midsection, quickly chec...

Reivyn woke up to his skin itching something fierce. He had attempted to mimic his mother's use of mana to heal herself that he had witnessed both during his birth and that of his twin sisters, but there was some element of the operation that he was lacking. He didn't know if it was a Skill that he needed to unlock, or if he didn't have the requisite affinity.

He still worked on improving his affinities occasionally if he had the free time, but it had recently taken a backsea...

Chapter 14 - Promising Prospects

The countryside slowly, but steadily passed by as the soldiers and conscripts marched down the road. Reivyn was much more comfortable in his new, form fitting armor, as even though they had cinched the slightly too big set before, such a stopgap measure was never perfect, and he had to constantly adjust the straps and move in a marginally unnatural gait to prevent chafing.

The landscape outside of Magron was beautifully attired in the multicolored splendor of growing crops. T...

Marc sat at his desk attired in his utilities. There was a constant stream of paperwork and e-mails to be addressed while in garrison. He would prefer to be out in the field with his men, but he understood not every waking moment could be spent training. Currently his XO, First Lieutenant Jackson, was talking his ear off about the plans...

Chapter 12 - Hazy Assimilation

The troops finally made it to the city without further incident after the short battle against the goblins. Reivyn was able to see the tops of the walls looming in the distance over the heads of those marching in front of him long before they were anywhere close to arriving at the destination. They simply dwarfed the basic defenses afforded by the wooden pallisade of Haluville, easily standing 50 feet tall.

Fortifications that were taken seriously all had to account for the p...

Chapter 11 - Advancing

The sun bore down on him as Reivyn trudged along. The heat of the early summer was causing him to sweat, even if the physical assertion wasn't too demanding. The trees to the sides of the road could be seen swaying with the wind, and a cool breeze was a welcome comfort.

Or, at least, it would have been if he wasn't surrounded by other men, marching in formation blocking all avenues for the wind to reach him. It would have been if he wasn't attired in full kit and gear, helmet...

Chapter 10 - Regular Guy

Reivyn was startled awake to the sound of a horn. He was momentarily confused at the unfamiliar surroundings. The fog of sleep impeded his ability to think about his situation as he sat up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. After a moment, the scenery triggered his memories of the previous day.

He could see dawn peaking up over the horizon through the opening in the end of the tent he had constructed with Teilon. His friend and the other were experiencing the same situation,...

Chapter 9 - Rabble Rabble

"Left, right, left, right..."

The uninspired marching cadence washed over him as Reivyn trudged along, lost in a sea of youths. Despite how incredibly easy it was to simply match the foot fall to the call of left and right, only about half of the conscripts were consistently managing it. He would face-palm if he could.

How are they not able to do it. It takes effort to get this wrong.

The group of teenagers had spent all morning "marching" ba...

"Are you sure you'll be alright?" Refix asked his wife. They were having a family conversation at the dinner table.

"Yes, yes. I'll be fine. We'll all be fine," Ameliyn reassured her husband.

"I know. It's just that I worry," Refix clasped Ameliyn's hand in his own. "This will be the first time in years that we're separated, and I'll be gone for several months."

"It's fine. Reivyn's mature enough to look after the girls if I need him to," she...

CLACK!

CLACK clack CLACK!

Sounds of wooden one-handed swords smashing together could be heard reverberating across the backyard of a certain abode in Haluville. An older male was pressing a much younger male with a striking resemblance to him in a clash of wooden swords. A cheer squad consisting of an older female and two identical little girls was whooping and hollering off to the side.

They continued to exchange moves, one with the rod and one with the fan, until ...

It had been three months since his mother had first explained the System to him, and he had just surpassed one of the first milestones in his life. He had turned one year old. Chapter 1 - Awakening

He had never been more comfortable in his life. A warm embrace encompassed his entire body as he lazily stretched and shifted about. He was in that strange state between sleep and awake. He was vaguely aware of his environment and the fact that he was dreaming, but he wasn't experiencing a lucid dream. He just let his thoughts wander.

He had slight recollections of existing as a mote of nothingness in an infinite void for an eternity, but despite his current situation being s...

Prologue - Dreams in the Void

There was nothing. It wasn't black. It wasn't white. It wasn't even blank. There was literally nothing.

Eons passed in instantaneous points of time.  There was no flow of time. One moment of eternity was simply, suddenly  another moment of eternity.

Then there was something. An attraction. A  movement so subtle, that if there had not been absolute nothingness, it  would have been impossible to perceive. The movement neither accelerated  nor decelerated. Th...
