Chapter 139 - Souldiering On

Reivyn through his weight back and drove his feet into the ground to maintain his balance. Even though the soul entity was ethereal and could pass through solid objects, roping it with Mana still required him to exert both mental and physical force to keep it from pouncing on Kefira.

He couldn't allow her to be distracted. Her job was incredibly important, as she was the key to keeping this thing from growing more powerful. Until the breach was closed, the soul ghost would continue...

Chapter 138 - Sole Worry

"This is fascinating," Kefira said, her hand reaching half-way to the tear in reality before dropping again.

"What's fascinating about it?" Reivyn asked.

"Well, the space fissures and gates I'm used to seeing aren't nearly as 'deep.' When someone makes a portal to travel to a distant location, the path that one walks is relatively close to the Realm. When I look through this hole, though, I can see that it goes far beyond anything I've ever encountered. It le...

Chapter 137 - Breakaway

"Hold the line steady!" Reivyn shouted. "Don't hesitate to switch out if you need to!"

Reivyn tossed some Spells over the heads of his men as he encouraged them. With the amount of spiders rushing at their position, this was a marathon situation, not a sprint, so he had to regulate his Mana accordingly. His Mana regeneration was enough that using three or four 50 Mana Spells a minute was enough for him to sustain the rate for a very long time, so that's what he did.

Chapter 136 - Success?

"It's time for you to get back to your company," Kefira said, unwillingly.

They had stood together in the center of the battalion under the watchful eye of Serilla, just talking about random things and enjoying each other's company. Reivyn had sensed a short pulse of Mana come from Kefira's communication device, and the both of them understood that to mean that Kayzor was about to engage Aeriella.

"Alright," Reivyn bent forward and gave Kefira a parting kiss....

Internet is back

Got the T-Mobile 5G in today, and got the WiFi set back up. I missed 3 chapters last week. This week, the release schedule will be the same as normal (the one early this morning was Monday's chapter), and I'll release 3 chapters on Saturday.

Chapter 135 - Last Leg

Reivyn ran alongside his company, keeping an eye out all around and an ear to his communication device. The battalion was moving as one, but in such a situation where everything was unknown, it made more sense to keep in touch with magic even with these small distances involved. The interference with the communication devices apparently only affected connections between inside and outside of the sphere of the Runic Spell.

Reivyn could see dust clouds of where larger enemy for...

No Internet - Update

Had a tech scheduled for yesterday. Waited all day, but when it got close to the time limit, called the company (Optimum), and they told me that the date of my appointment was scheduled, but the time frame hadn't been entered, so it didn't go through. Now I have to wait until the 16th for the next available tech. In the interim, my wife and I signed up for the T-Mobile 5G WiFi, but that won't be here until Wednesday. If it works even somewhat close to what we had, going to change providers. View Post

No Internet

My internet stopped working, and nobody can figure out why. Brand new router and paid bill. I have to wait until the 10th for a technician to come out. I'll still write, and I'll try to go to a place with WiFi to post, but no chapter today. Sorry, there's not much else I can do.

Chapter 134 - Parallel Advent

Reivyn strode through the field with his other officers. The soldiers of the company were finishing off the last remnants of the enemies from the camp they had been harassing for a while while the other soldiers from the battalion focused on their assigned fields.

They had gotten luckier than they had realized when Reivyn had lured their attention away for the quick strike force when they chased them into the desolate sands. They had apparently foolishly sent the last of thei...

Chapter 133 - Shifting Sand

Reivyn crawled on his belly over the sand dune. He cupped his fingers around his eyes to give himself a stable template to manipulate his Mana. He had seen large strides in his Affinities since he started training with Kefira, as well as improved his theoretical knowledge on several.

A memory from his Dreams had come to him one day when he had wished he could see just a bit further, and he had been trying to recreate the item he had seen his Dream-self use to see far distance...

Chapter 132 - Attune Up

"Hah," Aeriella sighed, lowering her sword. Blood dripped from the tip, dribbling on the ground. It wasn't just her sword that was stained red, her opponent's sword likewise dripped her blood.

Lugius lifted his sword and rested on the back of his shoulders as he appraised Aeriella. She had nicks and cuts across her arms and legs, but only a few jabs in her torso. None of her vital spots had even a scratch. She had gotten better over the past week of constant sparring with Lug...

Chapter 131 - The Pointy End

"Remember what I told you," Aeriella said to Colonel Irio as she walked out of the command tent.

She strode through the camp, condensing a red ball of mana with black streaks in it into her palm. She attached anchor points between it and her index finger, and she dropped it down almost to the ground, letting a string of Mana spool out from the two points. Once it reached her shin, but before her ankle, she arrested the downward movement and pulled it back up by reducing the l...

Chapter 130 - Merits

Reivyn held Kefira's wrist as he channeled his unattuned Mana from his hand into her meridians. The frown on her face gradually lessened as his Mana acted like rain on a dry desert. She had completely emptied her Mana Pool, that last Spell she used to alter everyone's time had cost a lot of Mana. Reivyn had seen a Mana Stone disintegrate in her hands before she had collapsed.

That last Spell had also come as a shock to Reivyn.

She wasn't lying wh...

Chapter 129 - Pleasant Jaunt

A/N Late chapter because I took my kids to the fair for the first time.

"Honey, here's the info pack for Wispan," Refix held out a sealed envelope with the Adventurer's official seal. They had sent several of their own people out in several different directions instead of waiting for someone in the Adventurer's Guild to accept a commission. They had burned through several years' worth of savings, but that didn't matter. It was still a drop in the bucket for t...

Chapter 128 - Confrontation

Kefira sat straight and prim in her saddle, scanning the horizon as the battalion ambled into their defensive position for the foreseeable future. The terrain was rocky and filled with rolling hills, so it was difficult to see very far even during the light of day. Kefira didn't have a visual Skill to help her see in the dark, but she did have a very high Light Affinity for her Level at 43. Infusing the Affinity into her eyes opened up the scenery for her well enough to see by the light of th...

Chapter 127 - Desert Guerillas

Reivyn lifted the blindfold over his eyes and peered into the distance. He was able to keep his eyes open for most of the time, now, but it still wasn't perfect. If nothing important was going on, Reivyn didn't bother covering his eyes until he got close to his limit, but there was a good reason he was doing it in an opposite manner at this time.

They had continued to hit the occasional supply convoy as they traveled west, but they didn't take them all out. They didn't want t...

Chapter 126 - Baby Steps

Reivyn sat at his field desk, eyes closed. Even with his eyes closed, he was able to see everything inside of his tent in a complete circle around himself. Even the walls of the tent didn't obstruct him from being able to see what was on the other side.

If there was something buried in the dirt below me, I'd probably be able to "see" that, too, he mused.

Reivyn didn't have any sentries standing post outside of his tent. The soldiers had tried to insi...

Chapter 125 - Sensational

Aeriella watched as that confounded man was dragged away from the empowered boulder she had dropped on his head. She was stunned to see that he had survived the crushing blow, and her body was momentarily frozen in place with her arm outstretched. She lowered her hand and whipped her head around to the nervous man standing behind and to the side of her.

"What the hell was that about?!" She yelled, hands on her hips. Her armor mostly hid her figure, but if anyone look...

Chapter 124 - Precipitous Shift

The sun was blinding after so many days traveling exclusively through the night and then followed up by several days in a dug out tunnel. It had only been mid morning when Reivyn and his two platoons emerged to finish their last jaunt to the suspected teleporter.

Reivyn crawled forward on his belly, alone. He had instructed the two platoons to form up and hide just out of sight, and he would go do the inspection himself. His Stealth Skills weren't anything amazing, but those ...

Chapter 123 - Moonlight Expedition

The moon reflected off the packed dirt as Reivyn trudged along the barren landscape. He lead a group of three other individuals as they crept their way in the bright night. Reivyn kept his eyes scanning the horizon, able to see for miles in the open plain. Forty other groups, spaced quite a ways apart, marched in parallel in the distance.

The sounds of combat reached Reivyn's ears, and he looked to the west to spot one of the groups engaging a swirling mass of dirt, dust, and...

Kefira rubbed her temples as she reviewed the map on her table. She sat with her elbows on either side of the parchment, her hair hanging down on either side of her face. The map contained the estimated locations of enemy forces as well as the locations of skirmishes and battles they had had since the first debacle.

Reivyn made it seem so easy to read a map, Kefira thought. I have the Skill, granted, not very high, but I have a hard time visualizing what...

A/N Today was my daughter's birthday, and my dad was in town. I didn't get started working until late.

A piercing beam came screaming out of the dark corridor, forcing Refix to hastily duck down to avoid the sneak attack. His ethereal weapons were swirling about, keeping the horde of little blue monsters at bay, but the sneak attack was timed to perfectly thread through the tiny gap between the surrounding weapons with extreme precision.

"Report!" Reivyn commanded the scout that ran up to him.

The company had Marched in an orderly manner back toward the base camp, and Reivyn had immediately resumed normal operating procedures, sending scouts out ahead. Even though the enemy, for all they knew, was long behind them, Reivyn wasn't going to let himself get complacent.

"Sir, the base camp is gone," the scout reported. Reivyn's eyebrows went up as he focused his attention on the man.

Reivyn kept a litany of encouragement going as the company fled. The battalion had suffered high casualties there at the end, but it had been concentrated in the center of the formation. Reivyn's company had been on the far end to the right, so they only suffered the casualties from the hand-to-hand combat.
