Suddenly A Succubus Ch. 41

Amara stood in her living room, heart racing as she stared at her mother. Her hands, still covered with chitinous exoskeleton, crackled with hellfire; the only noise cutting through the stiff silence. More than ever, Amara felt like the spitting image of Evelyn; the rich scarlet of their demonic features, the sharp protrusions at the end of their wings, the unnatural glow of their eyes.

Thousands of questions flooded Amara’s thoughts, each accompanied by a web of complicated emotions...

Book Two Feedback

You may recall that, three or so months ago, I officially released Book One of the Aurelius Archives: Suddenly A Succubus. Moving forward, my goal is to release two books a year, which is roughly the same rate at which I write them! The hope is that whatever I'm writing online is always about two books ahead of what's officially published. Since Book One came out at the end of January, this means I'd love to have Book Two released by the end of July, which is only a few months away.

I'd...

Blood & Chlorophyll Ch. 22 - Reflection

When writing this chapter, I really wanted to spend more time digging into Alicia's POV regarding Roxy. However, this did end up breaking a bit of an informal rule I've been trying to stick to with these chapters; I normally try to alternate POV between Kat and Alicia, and that didn't happen this time.

Since this isn't an ironclad rule, I really didn't mind breaking it, but it was still an interesting switch for me. The decision was largely practical, honestly. I knew that Kat wouldn't...

Blood & Chlorophyll Ch. 22

As the sun crept over the horizon, warmth flooded Alicia’s branches, and she woke with a heavy sigh of relief. Although she was still merged with her Heart Tree, the memories of her many injuries from yesterday lingered, which created some unusual sensations; it was hard to translate the human sensation of lower back pain to something more befitting a tree, yet apparently she found a way.

She poked her head out from her trunk to check on Kat, who was sleeping peacefully in a pile of b...

April Update

Spring is almost here! I'm thrilled the weather is finally starting to warm up, and I can't wait to start taking long walks in the summer sun again. However, before that can happen, I suppose I should let you know what's going on around here, yeah?

Suddenly A Succubus Book Three has finally wrapped up. The last chapter went live on all my free sites last week, and it's time to finally start looking forward. Patrons already have the start of Book Four, and Beta Readers have already gotte...

Suddenly A Succubus Ch. 40 - Reflection

With Book Three now fully wrapped up, it's time to dig into the aftermath. This was an interesting chapter to write, as I wanted to strike a balance between showing Amara dealing with her grief, but also struggling with everything else that needs to happen. Brandon finally being defeated doesn't solve all their problems; there's still a campus full of students that now know about magic.

My fear was that focusing too much on either issue would detract from the other. If I spend too much ...

Amara clenched her fists, watching them closely as blackened, chitinous plates grew from her knuckles. Once covered, she smashed them together, sparks of hellfire jumping up her wrists. She skipped from side to side, moving faster with each step to force her heart rate up. With a heavy, guttural scream, she charged at Vee, who leaned forward and braced for impact.

She threw her entire body into her first punch, grunting as the strike landed. Vee slid backwards, muttered something under ...

Blood & Chlorophyll Ch. 21 - Reflection

As I've said many times before, I struggle to write more mechanical conflicts. I understand many people enjoy them, but they've always been something I struggle with when writing. I want everything to be about my characters! The last two chapters of Blood & Chlorophyll have been a bit more mechanical, and it's been an interesting writing experience for me. Overall, I'm very happy with how those chapters turned out, and I'm thankful for the premise of the story for shoving me in a corner a...

Searing pain assaulted every fiber of Alicia’s body. She was trying to put on a brave face for Kat, who she wanted dearly to not worry, but it was hard to hide just how hurt she was. The pain was slightly easier to manage while adrenaline coursed through her veins, and although the fight was over, there was still a stranger standing several feet away from the group.

Tabitha was panting heavily as she aimed her swords at the girl, who had called herself Roxy. Her hands were up, and she...

Suddenly A Succubus Ch. 39 - Reflection

Truth be told, I have no idea how many of you actually read these Reflections. I know some of you do, but I also know they're nowhere near as popular as the actual story. This makes perfect sense, obviously, and I've always intended the Reflections to be fun little extras for those that want them.

However, sometimes I wonder if certain Reflections are more popular than others. Are there certain scenes in the main series that people read and go "Wow, I wonder how she though...

Late last year, Chloé found a small note-taking app in her search to organize her volunteer efforts. Her poor memory had always been a frustrating weakness, and her phone was cluttered with dozens of calendar alerts designed to keep her focused. A weekly alarm for hormone shots, a monthly alarm for the phone bill, and myriad other one-off events for anything and everything else.

Hanging out with friends? Event. Meeting with a teacher? Event. Day off with absolutely no plans? Three even...

So, last time, I was able to cheat at the start of the chapter by showing everyone getting ready for their first delve. I wasn't able to do that this time, and we start right in the middle of it.

I will say, though, I'm having more fun writing out the Dungeon bits than I expected. It's definitely still outside my area of expertise (character drama and dialogue) but it's been fun thinking of what the dungeon looks like, as well as how it acts. I did a lot of thinking about various dungeo...

Gentle music drifted through the canopy, backed by the subtle percussion of leaves crunching underfoot. Inspiration flowed through Katrina, suffusing her guitar before leaping through the air to return vitality to her party. In her opinion, their first fight had been an overwhelming success, and they’d escaped with only minimal injuries. Plus, Alicia had hit Level Three; yet another reason to feel optimistic about their first delve.

Part of her still had trouble believing she was in a...

March Update

Welcome back! We've got an exciting month ahead of us, don't we? This will likely be a bit of a shorter update, as there's not too much happening for me at the moment.

The most exciting thing is definitely the resolution of Book Three. My Beta Readers already have the final chapter, and let me tell you, they had some thoughts about the ending. I'm excited to wrap up the third entry in this series, but also to be starting the fourth book. I've mentioned this before, but Boo...

Suddenly A Succubus Ch. 38 - Reflection

It was incredibly refreshing to be back in Amara's head this chapter. Her POV has been absent from the last two chapters, and for a large chunk of those chapters she was completely unconscious. As much fun as it's been to explore all the characters in her absence, I'm happy to be back.

Specifically, I found it very interesting to see how things have subtly changed. For pretty much this entire book, Amara has been stuck with Vee in Purgatory and/or fighting for her life. She's been slowl...

Amara took a deep breath as she walked, each stair bringing her closer to the cafeteria. Previously, fresh off her reaper kill, she’d been too exhausted to care about the crowd of students, but now things felt different. The adrenaline had worn off, and she’d fed enough downstairs for her injuries to vanish completely. For a moment, she dwelled on the thought that she’d almost walked in front of a crowd of students without any clothes on.

It made her chuckle quietly to herself. View Post

Blood & Chlorophyll Ch. 19 - Reflection

So, fun little secret about this story. I've kinda been dreading the moment where everyone finally starts tackling the Dungeon, because it's such a foreign concept to me. I love writing romance and character drama, but Dungeon crawls? I've been scratching my head for months trying to find the best way to approach this part of the story.

I'm sure there's some alternate version of this story where the delving is happening throughout the entire book. Like, we do a tiny bit of delving, and ...

Alicia paced back and forth at the edge of Elias’ pond, nervously watching the sun as it began to slip under the horizon. Every few minutes she glanced back to her house, wondering when exactly Kat would wake up, knowing that the Vampire’s arrival would signal the beginning of their first delve. She bit her thumbnail as she walked, and her footsteps grew heavier as the seconds ticked away.

“All I’m saying is that you’ve been training nonstop for days. You’re gonna be fine!â€...

Fun fact—when I first outlined this book, I didn't have a clear picture of what exactly was going to happen after Amara and Vee first discovered Brandon. I knew they were going to race back to Earth and fight off reapers while getting students to safety, but it was hard to figure out what might come after that. There was a lot of stuff I knew might happen, but it really depended on how everything felt once people were safely in the cafeteria.

Initially, I was actually wo...

With a burst of magic, Tessa threw open the door in front of her, stormed through, then slammed it shut. She began furiously pacing back and forth, eventually letting out an angry scream as her tattoos flared again, this time hurling a chair across the room. It collided with the far wall, denting it before crashing loudly to the floor. She joined it a second later, collapsing to the ground and running her hands through her hair, locking them together behind her neck and pulling her head down....

Blood & Chlorophyll Ch. 18 - Reflection

This is a chapter I've been incredibly eager to get to. It's been sitting in my head for a while, and it's specifically the reason why Tab asked for blank checks all those chapters ago.

I've mentioned this before, but I did significantly less planning ahead with Blood & Chlorophyll than usual. With Suddenly A Succubus, I normally have a detailed outline of the entire book before I start chapter one, and I simply didn't do that here. I had a good idea of where everything was going, b...

Ask Chloé Anything!

A few months back, I ran a Q&A with Amara in celebration of my Patreon hitting 100 members. Since then, the community has continued growing, and I'm now at 150! Honestly, I've had a surge of new members in the last few weeks, which has been absolutely exhilarating for me. Welcome all you lovely people!

Now, since both Amara and myself have had some time in the spotlight, this time I'm giving the stage to Chloé.

The rules are the same as last time, but since we've got some new...

It was a surreal experience, planning a cam show. Tab had started calling tonight ‘Kat’s debut performance’ but Katrina didn’t like how that sounded; it implied a chance that she would ever do this again. She kept returning to the same thought, over and over; her greatest shame, the guilt that had locked her away from humanity for the last few years, was about to be streamed and monetized.

Now only that, but according to Tab, it was likely going to be a huge hit. With sex work n...

In Chapter 35 I purposely left a few things pretty vague. I didn't show Amara and Vee coming through the Lysander Circle portal, I didn't show what Vee was up to, stuff like that. Now, on one hand, this was a perfect way to build suspense for Chloé's showdown with the damaged reaper. In my opinion, this book has higher personal stakes for many of our characters, and I've always intended for Chloé to serve as the representative for the average student.

However, by strategically withhol...

February Update

I published a book!!!

I'm so incredibly happy with how the final version of Suddenly A Succubus turned out. The entire process was thoroughly enjoyable, and I learned so much about the world of self-publication. The best part (other than having a paperback copy of my very own book) is that publishing more books in the future will be considerably easier. I have all the knowledge and the technology, and the next publication will likely eat up less of my time overall.

Earlier

Tessa spent the entirety of dinner gossiping and floating wild theories about Amara and Vee. She would never in a million years have guessed that they would hook up, but apparently the stars had aligned in Purgatory. It also made sense in hindsight; the first time they’d all talked through the circle, the two had seemed strangely amicable.

She desperately wanted to know what had happened. The day before Amara disappeared, she’d been complaining about V...

Blood & Chlorophyll Ch. 17 - Reflection

There's something incredibly refreshing about writing the aftermath for an event that I've been teasing for ages. Like, sometimes in stories, the slow build of tension leads to a great moment and then the story falls flat afterwards, and I'm really happy that's not a problem I've struggled with. It always feels so nice to reconnect with characters after a dramatic change, and this chapter was a great example of that.

Our happy little couple is officially sleeping together!
