Suddenly A Succubus Ch. 23

Chemistry class the next morning proved to be one of the longest hours of Amara’s life. She could barely keep herself awake, as she’d been up all night glued to her phone. Vee was back, after all, and had agreed to help them stop the cult. When they’d last spoke, she’d promised to reach out as soon as she located her Enochian texts, but Amara had no idea how long that would take. Every time her phone vibrated, she would hastily grab it hoping for a text from Vee, but it always proved ...

Blood & Chlorophyll Ch. 06 - Reflection

I actually rewrote the beginning of this chapter a couple times. At first, my plan was to completely revisit the scene at the end of the last chapter, with the same dialogue and everything, but instead seeing everything from Kat's point of view. However, after getting through about half of this, I decided there wasn't enough interesting material to warrant this approach.

As it stands, I do a little min-montage to sum up Kat's thoughts, and I think this worked out really well. It lets us...

Rough Draft - Blood & Chlorophyll Ch. 07

As the sun slowly dawned on the city suburbs, and warmth filled Alicia’s branches, she let out an immense sigh of relief. Her branches felt as if they were stretching towards the light, and powerful energy flowed through her once more. She let herself relax for another few hours; not quite asleep, but not quite awake, just enjoying the strength of the sun rejuvenating her. There was nothing special about this morning, technically, but last night had been the first time she’d ever been so ...

Katrina’s nerves were on high alert for the entire train ride. She’d only needed to ride it a handful of times in the last few years, but this was her second trip in less than a week, and the strain was wearing her down quickly. It didn’t help that Alicia seemed equally stressed; being separated from her Heart Tree clearly wasn’t good...

Suddenly A Succubus Ch. 22 - Reflection

Woo boy, this a relatively new experience for me as a writer, and it took me longer than usual to really cement everything that was happening in this chapter. Still, before we get into the meat of things, lets start at the beginning.

We pick up just moments after our last chapter, with Amara fleeing from the cult. She joins up with Tessa, while disguised as Nick, and the two head back to meet up with the actual Nick waiting back at home. This is when Tessa speaks up and recommends they...

Character Prompt - Blood & Chlorophyll

Hey everyone! It's a Blood & Chlorophyll week, and the chapter I'm writing needs some characters! I'd love to hear your ideas; maybe you have a cool visual for a character, or there's a Race you'd love to see briefly in a story. If you want to include personality ideas, that could be fun too!

The rules are simple; characters can be almost anything under the sun, so long as it comes from folklore in some way. Gargoyles, elementals, ghosts, go nuts! There are also quite a lot of Bea...

(Hey guys! I went ahead and updated some of the sections in this chapter. I tried to incorporate in all your notes, while also slightly altering the fight at the end to make it easier to follow. If you find the time, I'd love to get your opinions on how Version 2 fares. Also, when you share your thoughts, could you put (V2) at the start of your comment? Just so it's easier to sort through everything. Thanks again for all the feedback!!)

The elevator ride took ages. Amara’s heart was racing the entire time, and she was terrified the cult might have a way to stop the elevator or call it back. There was also the demon; what could it do? Could it race up the elevator shaft and break in? Was she ready to fight another demon? She tried to stare at her reflection in the polished walls, and flinched when she saw Mr. Luxnor's face staring back at her. For a moment, she thought about returning to her own form, but she knew Nick's cl...

This was definitely a chapter that, while enjoyable, I was a little nervous about. I try really hard to focus on showcasing my characters, letting them do interesting things, but this chapter necessitated a not-insignificant bit of worldbuilding. For many authors, worldbuilding is a pretty tough beast to wrangle; how do you introduce it in a way that feels natural? Ideally, you tie it in with character or plot beats, so that you're never just sitting down to watch a Powerpoint presentation ab...

August 2024 Update

Welcome to August everybody! Can you believe we're already more than halfway through 2024? July was pretty exciting; I got to share a cool piece of guest work, and we got to see the first of my Patreon-exclusive Side Stories! I'm hoping to get Chapter 2 of Tessa's story out sometime this month, and I'm thinking that one Side Story post a month is a reasonable pace. I'm always incredibly cautious about giving myself too much work, so hopefully that pace isn't too agonizing a wait.

A lot...

“But that doesn’t make any sense!” Alicia said. “The Chicago Dungeon is miles away, we’re way out in the suburbs. How could there possibly be an entrance here?”

Tessa Ch. 01 - Reflection

I finally started my Side Stories! Woo! I hope it didn't feel like too long a wait, but this story is taking longer to write than I anticipated. From the beginning, I knew Tessa would be a great character to focus on, but how would I do that?

I have a lot of opinions regarding spin-offs, side stories, prequels, everything in that vein of storytelling. On paper, they sound great! Take a story or universe you love, and add more to it! But, how many times have you seen a prequel that felt ...

Did you know this is only my third lesbian sex scene? I'm consistently surprised by how little girl-on-girl action I put in my story as a very devout lesbian. Still, when it does happen, it's a blast, and I have a feeling it'll become more common as we get further into the story.

One really nice thing I was able to do in this chapter was show a bit of Tessa's mundanity. She likes to show up when there's plot happening, and she doesn't get as many of the really comfortable, slice-of-life...

Guest Work - Amara's Phone Call

Hi everyone! I've got a special treat for you today; one of my readers felt inspired to write a short piece about Amara, and gave me permission to share it here. I think it's a really great read, and a fun way to speculate about possible futures for our collegiate succubus! I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did <3

(This work is not considered canon)

Amara glanced at her phone before hitting the call button. “Hey mom, what’s up?...

Thankfully, by the time she landed on the ground floor of Lysander Hall, there had been no disruptions to her escape. She quickly broke into a sprint, leaving the building and rushing to her designate...

Several hours had passed since the sun disappeared behind the horizon, and Amara was relaxing on her couch. Her head was resting in Tessa’s lap, and some generic action movie was playing on the TV. The two girls had finished dinner recently, and were slowly preparing for the main event of the night: Amara’s infiltration of the secret cult meeting. It was of utmost importance that she be well-fed, as they still weren’t sure exactly what Mr. Wellington was up to.

A strange noise echoed through the house from downstairs. It was loud enough that it woke the little girl who’d been sleeping peacefully on her parents’ bed, unaware that it had been empty for hours. She slowly sat up, rubbing her eyes as she yawned.

“Mommy?” she asked, looking to both sides of the bed. “Daddy?”

She slid to the end of the bed, then carefully hopped down to the floor. The bed was much taller than hers, and she couldn’t even get into it without her par...

I'm really happy to be past some of the slower, introductory chapters now. The first two chapters were a blast to write, don't get me wrong, but it was a lot of set-up with very little plot. I'm also incredibly excited to be writing what is, essentially, a more straight forward story. I've been very upfront about my intentions with the book, mostly that it focuses on a romance, and it's been fun dabbling with this kind of writing.

Suddenly A Succubus is incredibly character focused, and...

So I'm walking my dog last night, right? It's finally a half-decent temperature, I'm enjoying the weather, when I suddenly realize that I never posted a Reflections piece yesterday. Cards on the table, I've been a bit sick this week, and my sense of time is all over the place. It was too late for me to sit down and write this, especially since I didn't want to rush my thoughts on this chapter. Anyways, sorry for the delay!

Birds chirped outside the window, enjoying the morning light as it slowly filled the sky. A soft breeze passed through the autumn leaves, shaking some of them loose before they fell to the ground. Inside, a phone prepared to sound its alarm, but was silenced before it had the chance.

Vee had recently started rising with the sun, and only set her alarm out of habit. She slid out of bed, her nimble feet sinking into the plush carpet as she started her stretches. Her back cracked in a few ...

This Chapter is where the main thrust of my plot really coalesces, at least in my opinion. One fun difference between this book and Suddenly A Succubus is that things get off to a slower start here, and I'm glad I approached it that way. Giving Katrina and Alicia their own introductory chapters was the perfect way to introduce the world, as well as show how different the two girls are. That being said, every method of storytelling has its weaknesses. If you look at Katrina, it's very obvious ...

Welcome to July everyone! I hope you're all enjoying your summer, I know I am. It's been pretty toasty in my area, and I think this heat wave is hitting most of the US. If you're not in the States, unfortunately I'm not familiar with the weather patterns across the globe, but hopefully you've got more comfortable weather than we do.

Before I jump into the Chapter, I want to share some behind the scenes stuff on how I approach my books. For the most part, I outline the events of an entire book before I really get started, with a few exceptions. For example, when I started Book 1, I had no idea I was going to take everything this far, so Chapter one was written entirely in a vacuum. I simply had a neat idea (What if I ended the chapter with her tail appearing?) and ran with it. Once I finished, I then outlined Chapters 2-1...
