Mars is from the rival guild next door to Sword Kings, and initially thinks little of their party, but he becomes friends with Rex once he gets to know him (and after Rex rescues him from a bandit camp that held him for ransom for his guild to come fetch for a high price. Monarch butterflies and dark pink roses, the symbols of a kind and loving king {:^>c
You may also be noticing the white roses and cream-colored flowers / petals in a lot of the other cards, which symbolize eternal love, virtue, and everlasting affection. Other meanings include charm, new beginnings (as in a 'blooming romance' as well) and goodness in general. In ACE OF BEASTS and MEN+MONSTERS, white flowers are the leitmotifs of Ravi, Osric, and Silas.

The change from Pentacles to Coins was spurred from the meaning of each and what I thought would fit better with my world and characters without changing the fundamental symbolism. Pentacles were magical talismans had the pentagram insignia on them in the Rider-Waite deck (aka the Tarot Deck Everyone Thinks Of), whereas the suit was originally called coins. I think since mine don't have an insignia on them, coins would be better suited (lol) to both the MM world and the traditional tarot.
