[Finished] Page 66 - Two Birds with one stone

A perfect page to demonstrate Chaudine's hatred towards Taya. I am actually very satisfied how her expression turned out in the last panel.

It was one of the more elaborate pages including a magic seal and many explosions and flame effects. I also decided to draw the sound words which represent some kind of impact myself since I got the feeling that my pool of fonts limited this expression on earlier pages.

Back then I was already excited and absolutely fascinated how easily compelling the story was from the very first minute and how well-designed every character and their backstory were. At first it was planned to show Winrow already on this page but I thought to rise the sense of unease by not showing Taya and only the leftovers of the destruction it would give him a more suitable introduction and a short demonstration of his magic power.

This page was eminently challenging because I wanted to convey the  heaviness Taya is dealing with. Would be better if I had shown her more from the side while she is pressed against the wall and is pushing the monster plant back, since that angle covered the pushing hand and feets which are the best view marks for presenting the input of her force. I learned something new, at least. Hopefully I can upload some more pages in the next weeks to speed up the chapter's end.

The thing about monster scenes is the challenge you have to face when it comes to communicate the dynamics and the impact of the monster's massive weight. Not sure if I have succeeded to present the force in a good way but I did my best I guess. It was also important as introduction to show how Taya can resist such a strong power on the next page.

The next two pages are fight scenes and as I know they are a bit problematic for webcomic readers because there is barely story progress going on. At least, as far as I can tell, even this scene establish a crucial plot and setting element for the next chapter.

Also readers will see how Taya can take a strong blow by that chaos beast without getting killed...

[Finished HD Page] Chapter 1 #62

Back from my trip again. Feeling a bit ill after the stressful days and I am somehow still didn't ovecome my jetlag. My laptop got damaged over the flight so I was completely isolated. It was nice to see my relatives again after a decade though...

Still, it felt so strange not having the option to draw anything for a week. But yeah, the show must go on. I could do a bunch of photos in Vietnam and some of them will serve as new inspiration for my manga.

Dip into the past: Chaos Prologue (2015/2016)

A little trivia page which shows some older pages and scrapped scenes from the prologue chapter. I found several old files with the early story versions of the beginning. In the end I chose the scenes with Chaudine who is talking to Taya because these pages offers the best impression of the character changes and the drawing style over the recent years.

In 2016 when I came up with the idea to use a more brownish monochrome tone which I thought would be a nice distinctive component of my manga.<...

Back then I liked the idea of a young snobbish advocate lady who uses coarse language whenever she dislikes something. That's how eventuelly Chaudine's characterization turned out. This page hint her hatred towards Taya but also Taya's backgroun as former slave.

Felt very nostalgic while drawing this. There are just a hand full people who knows this old GBC title which was a forerunner of survival simulations and the Lost in Blue series which came out for the nintendo DS later. Still remember how I fell in love with the illustrations and gameplay idea when I read the report in the German Nintendo magazine...

My mother tried to obtain this game back then but needed at least three attempts since she has been scammed every time after purchasing an appare...

So during the first on-screen 'dialogue' between Chaudine and Taya the reader should get an clear picture of their hostile relationship. Chaudine is the more aggressive one and drop some hints about Taya earlier life as a slave of the Maleovolus household and is also convinced that nithing about her status changed despite her hard-earned freedom.

So we reached the pages with the encounter. I have to say that the next pages will be really fun for me to draw. Also because there were so many older versions of the next dialogue scene between Chaudine and Taya. I hope that my upload schedules won't change despite my family circumstances and the related Vietnam journey at the end of the month.

Page 59 (Finished)

After many pages with 4 main panel rows I wanted to do a one page with 3 again. I put a Lady Gaga reference in panel 2 and 3 although i doubt that someone wil recognize it, haha.

I think the main challenge concerning this page was to convey the dynamic effect of the vice-captain's loudness and anger in panel 4... I'm still thinking if more lines would've done it.

I am already looking forward to line the newest pages which depict the encounter of the two rivals. Page 61 has also a special meaning for me but I will save that story for later. :)

We are two pages away from the encounter with team Winrow. This short dialogue between Chaudine and Leroy should point out that Leroy is confident enough of his strength but seems to be weaker than Chaudine so that she saw him more as a burden.

.... by the way, Manati has a daughter too!

I changed the order of some events to tighten the plot a bit, so all the characters start to take action and run already. The most important progress is the following telephone talk between the captain and her vice captain which happens while the others are in the middle of some fights.

I recently thought about doing this speedpainting stuff more often and also featuring more page work process viddeos. However since I suck at editing I am still not entirely sure if I want to do it regulary every week.

 God, this weapon boxes gave me a rough time. xD I wanted to draw some more panels for the arrival of those boxes but since I can't effort more time until the end of the prologue after a dozen of pages I scrapped the idea quickly.
