Surprise!
Gamewrecks episode 2 is underway, and I'm really pleased with what's been going on with it so far. Granted, what's been going on so far is that the research and scripting has panned out some real entertaining (and also horrifying) stuff. More over, I'm just really pleased with how the initial trailer worked out, and this is entirely because with the first episode done, a workflow has emerged, and not only are things going to go quicker now, they're going t...

There is not a marital councilor impartial enough to deal with this bullshit, trust me.
Tender Loving Care is a game that will challenge your ability to like interactive entertainment. You will see, as my patron, every bit of me sussing out the wrong in it. For now, enjoy.

That wasn't the earth shifting, that was gears turning.
Today was a day for taking time for my partner and for myself. This is because tomorrow will be a big day for you. First, a big ol' draft of Strange Wilderness fiction is headed your way tomorrow afternoon. Then later, I'll show you what's coming in the the next episode of Gamewrecks.

Things Are Happening, Even When They First Appear to Not Be
You want to keep momentum going through the completion of a project. I was really pleased by how Gamewrecks came out, but also needed to take a break from getting it out. Then brain stuff occurs, and you find yourself needing to get back in it.
I'm back in it, but it's the weekend, and I'm visiting folks. So here's what's going to be coming up.
- More Strange Wilderness. Con...

IT'S DONE
A saga of pinball developers, a hot genre, Hollywood connections, destructive flatulence and little success.

Thank you all.

I'M WORKING ON IT RIGHT NOW
This thing I am building is on track for release tomorrow evening. Before then, enjoy an 8 minute look on a version that only needs audio tweaking before it's live for prime time. I'm getting really excited, and I hope you all enjoy! See you tomorrow! Hopefully!

THIS IS HARD
Yeah, hi. The feeling out process of making video has been fun, but also time consuming, mainly as I figure out as I go what this thing needs to be. Less fun, is brain-related stuff that makes it hard to work on even the things I want to do- meds adjusted, attempting in earnest to have instances of that particular variety of Less Fun in my life.
That said, I can't be too mad that I've got to do the one more week thing with you, because I'm pleased with how t...

Learning to take time to make good.
This week, I decided to challenge old behaviors of mine, which is to say I make myself suffer mentally and emotionally, "like a Catholic" as a therapy facilitator of mine used to say, when I don't deliver. Instead of doing that, I instead decided to accept that rather than be an individual that does things quick, I'm going to be the individual that makes things good. Because, as it turns out, when I'm in that mindset, and relaxed within it? ...

We'll resume gamedev content soon, but I had an urge to branch out to break up the monotony.
For this Week's Mon-Fri recap of what I've been up to, I've got a treat for patrons alone: the script, as it stands, for the first episode of Gamewrecks: Tattoo Assassins! FEAR!
Or more likely, feel sympathy for the poor folks that worked on this thing, whatever.
See you next week!

Combat begins! For real this time. But on Monday, because balancing the fickle nature of living in a mental space with illness means sometimes weekends are very important, and also, I've got other stuff going for this weekend. In other words, I'm taking as much of this Saturday as I can for myself, but bringing you the beginnings of the much promised combat section on Monday. Stay tuned, and enjoy your weekend!

Section 99 evolves further.
Section 99 started in an earlier time in my life, when I was a more cynical young man, that thought he knew more than he did. As time went on, I tried to correct its course to fit a lot of what I had made to fit the politics I had evolved, and move it in the direction it needed to go. Two things, though: one, it had grown to a size that I was trying to develop a behemoth for a first major project, which is a recipe for disaster; two, the ...

AT LEAST IN THEORY
Game development takes time, and often this is expressed in the form of Crunch, which states that a developer's life is worth less than the product they create. This is unsustainable, and also not exactly the sort of practice I would condone, let alone tolerate. I'm about sustainability here, you've seen how I play Cities.
So tomorrow, I'll show you what I have for you. Because from Monday to Friday, I created something new, and it's going q...

Ryu is one of the most boring fighting game characters ever, except that he’s not.
It’s hard to argue with the idea that a guy in a white gi with a black belt is a pretty blank character design. It’s the sort of uphill battle you willingly take on when you decide to debate something that just boilerplate Is, like water is wet, like arguing that Ryu from Street Fighter is a very simple design, visually. IFC Yipes called him Ordinary Guy back in the MvC3...

Some games are thought provoking, while others are thought luxuriating.

There is no hard heart needed in doing what you love.
A side effect of having no limiter valve on your emotions is coming to terms with just how violent your ideation can actually get. A naked id is a scary thing to live with, and part of learning to cope is understanding what is healthy engagement with ideas you really want to be careful with saying out loud, and what is unhealthy engagement with those ideas. You learn to understand that there's no absolute applica...

Welcome to the first installment of That Thing What I Worked On When My Brain Did The Bad Thing Again. It's the first of two shorts within the New Nature, a post-Earth otherworld shaped by dreams and reawoken ancient instincts. The characters range from immortal weapons of the tribe, viciously happy in a deathless war with occupiers from hostile empires, to a coffee delivery guy who is just in it to do the best job he can. He runs his route in a city borough that's also a tree; it's...

My first response to the news that the studio behind Lawbreakers, days after announcing that Lawbreakers tanked hard enough to not even warrant going free to play, was announcing their next game, an 80s-Retro themed battle royale shooter, my exact words were "DON'T TRY TO GO INTO YOUR O...

Because we all deserve nice things. Yes, even you.
I knew that whatever I had to do in my life, whatever I wanted be when I grew up, it'd have to be adjacent to games. The reason for this is simple: when I was little, I wanted to make games, so I explored what that was like as a kid- doodles on paper with markers, inspired by things seen on a screen with an NES or a C64 hooked up to it. I got older, started experimenting with art, programming (that was a short dista...

Yes, hello, hi, I meant to do this earlier.
I like to give explanations for when I'm gone for a stretch. I've done so before, and I will again, which is to say: ibid.
I'm still mentally ill, and I still fall apart sometimes. I'm getting better, in the sense that I'm back on my feet. Just that this happens when life turns in uncomfortable ways, you forget that you're really actually quite sane normally, and start to believe your own negative self talk. Doing things that y...

I'm a fan of TieTuesday, he's a great streamer and a solid person who knows that part of what makes streaming the positive form of new entertainment that it can be, is genuine enthusiasm for what you're doing. At the very least, his thin skull will ensure he does not suffer.
There’s a special class of dimwit innate to videogames, one that I think we’re all frankly a little overloaded on. You know, the type that probably grew up, for certain values of “growing up”, on an anonymous chan board, who thinks slurs are the cruise control to cool or at the very least, an acceptable greeting for people not actually in the slurred outgroup. The people who were s...
