Chapter 18

When the next day came and everyone was awake, they set off, they didn’t have anything to gather as everything they did have was stored in their inventories so there was no delay in leaving. Tegan had informed them the night before that they would be walking non stop for a full day at least but closer to two as before they had found the group they had already slept in the tunnels once.

This was fine by everyone as the idea of getting somewhere that was not only safe but full of ...

Chapter 17

That could have gone worse, Shaun decided once they had all finished telling their story of what had occurred, Gabe and Eric both stuck with what they agreed with, not once bringing up what they had seen at the end of his fight. Although the worst of what had actually occurred was left out of their retelling, the change in the way the group now looked at him was obvious, Michael and Trevor didn’t try and remove him from the group, although they did make a number of comments li...

Chapter 16

“Shaun, what have you done?”, Shaun turned around to look at who had just spoken, standing behind him was Gabe, who was the one that just spoke, was standing there beside him was Eric, both of them with looks of shock on their face, even a bit of fear.

“It's not what you think, I know this looks bad…..” Shaun started.

“This doesn’t just look bad Shaun! We just saw you slit a man's throat, not to even mention the two other bodies that are lying around!” Gabe interru...

Chapter 15

The three people in front of him had no idea how to react to such a casual introduction, Shaun had considered how he would approach the situation in the moments before stepping into view. He immediately ruled out attacking as he didn’t know what intention they had and starting out with violence would not be the best first impression. He had also considered acting like finding them was a dream come true, he could tell them some story about how hard it had been in the tunnels and that finding...

Chapter 14

Making their way back to the cavern took a few hours and nothing happened during the journey back, this time though rather than walking the entire way they would also swap between running, jogging and walking. As they reached each of the splits in the tunnels that they would go down Eric would mark the cave wall with his sword so they could keep track of each tunnel they had gone down as they started to explore more of the cave system in the coming days.

As they got close to the cavern ...

Chapter 13

As they walked through the tunnel Shaun figured they needed a plan for when they encountered the next group of monsters. After a quick discussion it was decided that they would continue on with the same routine as they had with the group, Shaun would be the scout and the other two would stay a little behind and guard their back.

It didn’t take long before they encountered their first monsters, this time a group of three salamanders walking in the same direction they were, all ar...

Chapter 11

As they moved down the tunnel as a group, it was decided to let the other rogue take the lead this time to help him build up his skills, Shaun was fine with this as he had already made it a decent way down the tunnel earlier and he knew that he wouldn’t be able to raise his skill further just by scouting ahead. Instead he spent the time thinking about how he would incorporate Gabe into his battle strategy the next time they had an opportunity to set out alone. Depending on the situation he ...

Chapter 10

After collecting both of his daggers Shaun stumbled to the wall and dropped down to the ground, exhausted from the battle he just needed a bit of time to recover. Even though the battle only took a few minutes he had never felt more tired than he had in that moment, his body ached, his arm was throbbing with pain but even with all of that he was happy, excited and even impressed with himself. He still hadn’t even gotten to the best part of the fight, the gains.

*You have d...

Chapter 9

Shaun hadn’t been far down the tunnel during his time keeping guard of the cavern so he didn’t know if he was going to find anything in the limited time he had to explore.  They had walked endless for hours with little changing the day before so he didn’t have a high expectation of finding anything different with only an hour to not only look around but also make it back before it was time to wake everyone. He didn’t let down his guard though, not for even a second. He saw what c...

Chapter 8

“It’s your turn to do the watch,” Jerking awake Shaun looked up at Richard who had just nudged him to wake up “it was all quiet, didn’t see or hear anything out there, the first watch said the same. I’m going back to sleep, make sure to wake everyone in a few hours.”

Gabriel and Eric were also in the process of getting up, walking over to the pool of water he took a few sips and wiped his face with his wet hands, trying to wake himself up a bit quicker so he could be...

Chapter 7

Proceeding through the tunnel, they had decided to change the way they structured the group, rather than all of the warriors at the front they had split the group so that Michael, Trevor, Shaun and the mage that worked with Trevor, his name being Ian, Shaun learnt, were at the front, the rest of the group mixed into the middle and a warrior was protecting their back. Rather than walking without reason though everyone had their weapons out, testing their skills and always on alert for another ...

Chapter 6

Everyone stood in shock, looking on at the scene that was unfolding before them, the last thing anyone expected after their first battle was to have to deal with an argument over who had managed to kill the monster. They should have been focusing on the people that were hurt, or the mage that has lying dead on the ground underneath the spiderling, but no, Shaun was stuck having to deal with a bully who thought it was his right to have gotten the first kill even, though he was barely able to d...

Chapter 5

Just as he was about to break his stealth and shout at the team, the spiderling, with another loud hiss, dropped from the ceiling into the middle of the group. As the group had been moving through the tunnels, they had been staying close together as they had all assumed that if a monster was going to attack them they would be able to see it come from in front of them and they would have the warriors who were in the lead best able to defend the rest of the group and attack anything that came t...

Chapter 4

The tunnel that the group had chosen to go down was similar to the chamber that they had originally found themselves in, it was dark with blue streaks running through the walls offering just enough light for the group to see in. At the back of the group Shaun could barely make out Michael and Trevor who were leading from the front who were about 10 metres in front of them, but this didn’t bother him, there was little noise in the tunnel which meant that he could hear everyone whispering and...

Chapter 3

After what felt like being ripped through space, Shaun opened his eyes to see where he had ended up and if he was in immediate danger. Around him were rock walls on every side, he was in what looked to be a small chamber which was illuminated by streaks of glowing blue veins running through the walls. Although he could barely see through the darkness there was just enough light to make out two exits to the small area he was in. Thankfully Shaun wasn’t afraid of the dark, in fact as a kid he...

Chapter 2

Darkness was all that surrounded Shaun. Looking around he tried to make out any shapes in the shadows to gather some idea of what was happening to him and what he was meant to do. What is happening? Shaun thought to himself. What was that blue writing and what am I supposed to do now? Shaun tried to speak to call for help but he had no control over his body, he tried to move his legs then his arms but there was no response.

*Welcome Shaun Clermon...

Chapter 1

Fridays were generally a good day for Shaun, the same for everyone else that worked a 9 to 5 job, they indicated the end of the work week and the start of 2 days away from the city, not to mention the people in it. Shaun made a habit of leaving the moment his day was done every Friday and heading straight to his car, which had already been packed with all of his gear for a weekend out in the mountains. He had been doing this since the first week he started his job nearly two years ago.
