Let's do something FUN before we move to the next wishlist lesson later this week!
Today I'd like to show you the worldwide Spotify Top 10 Charts in 10 different METAL styles :) I also transcribed everything for you, make sure to download the tabs and Guitar Pro files below. There are some fun sequences in there in case you're looking for some new 7 string material to practice!
Up next we will check out some extremely useful building blocks for your shred licks that you can use fo...

Time to work on the current highest voted wishlist topic! Today we talk about timing and rhythm and how to practice that effectively in your routine.
A lot of players associate timing & rhythm with boring rhythm exercises and don't think it's too important when it comes to guitar solos and lead parts - that's why I want to focus on this exact topic today :) Download the tabs and guitar pro files for the exercise below!
This time I created backing tracks instead of video play-a...

Before we move to the really interesting wishlist topics later this week, I'd like to share something very special today :)
Cobra Kai (Netflix series) soundtrack composers Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson challenged me to do a shred version of their season 3 credits theme, Miyagi Metal! Of course, I could not resist :)
I also transcribed everything I played in case we have some fans of the series here. There are some really cool ideas in...

Before we tackle your awesome wishlist topics for this month, I'd like to share the first game-changer exercise of 2021 for me - it's about picking technique once again!
Last year, we worked on a lot of 3 note per string material and cool patterns. This year, it's time to up the challenge and to work on more difficult patterns! This exercise forces you to switch between both angles and that really loosens up your picking hand.
I already feel a big difference after a couple of days...

I was asked to do a guitar playthrough for 'Through the Night', the metal song I got to write for David Hasselhoff with the project CueStack.
Maybe that's interesting for a couple of members on here as well: I added the tabs, guitar pro files, and a backing track below! The video also includes a bit of trivia when it comes to the song - it was originally a complete 6 string arrangement but I transposed the rhythm guitars for a 7 string in A standard. That way it sounded a bit heavier wi...

Hello my friends, hope you had a great start to this new year :)
Since I got many messages about the last shred collab video we did in December, I wanted to quickly share what we are working on together in the VIP group at the moment!
We are doing another shred collab and it will go online on my YouTube channel once again, attached to one of the lessons in February. So if you would like to be a part of this one, make sure to join us in the VIP clu...

This week's lesson is extremely important! Let's check out how to use the circle of fifths to learn, understand, and memorize scales FAST.
The music theory knowledge in this video will allow you to switch between major and minor keys in a fluid and musical way and this was a big game-changer for me. We checked out the circle of fifths last year already, but I felt like I didn't explain this system well enough in that video!
This time we focus on more practical examples and also ch...

Happy holidays, my friends :) Hope you have some time to practice in the following days! Another awesome topic from your December lesson wishlist here on Patreon: 5 easy but really fast and awesome shred licks.
These licks sound great and much harder than they actually are! I hope you have tons of fun learning them and changing them to fit your own style :) I attached the tabs and guitar pro files below and also recorded helpful video play-alongs for you: 2020-12-25 14:03:53 +0000 UTC

Happy holidays my friends, hope you have some time off this week to relax - and to practice/play guitar of course :)

Time for your next wishlist topic! You voted for writing/recording/mixing a metal song as fast as possible - and on the extra voting in the inner circle Facebook group, you voted for the style of neoclassical metal :)
This was so much fun to do, I hope you enjoy this quick breakdown of my recording routine! Let me know if we should continue this series or if we should explore writing/recording/mixing some more in the future. I'll add it to the wishlist from now on!

It's finally time to talk about improvisation and guitar solos once again! You guys and girls voted for the topic of playing great lines and licks on the fly - so I thought it would be perfect to look at 6 BAD habits when it comes to this and how to easily change them :)
I can find myself in all of these 'bad' examples and the solutions really helped me with sounding more original whenever I encountered these issues. This doesn't only go for improvisation, this has also really improved ...

Worked on this one for quite a while so I'd like to share it here as well - it's not part of the main lessons (hence no number) but I thought we might have some Star Wars/Mandalorian fans in the community :)
You can download the tabs, guitar pro files, and a backing track below if you would like to jam along with this arrangement of the amazing theme! I also attached the original audio if you would like to listen to it outside of YouTube/Patreon :)

Good morning from Austria my friends, I just wanted to share a quick update with all of you :) Hope you're doing well, thank you for being part of this community!
- Patreon is currently updating the messaging tool! It's time for another fun one this weekend :) Today I'd like to share 10 metal guitar stereotypes with you - can you see yourself in any of these takes?
I wanted to explore some different ideas since this has been done before and it was a lot of fun to write and record these parts. As always, you can download the tabs and guitar pro files below! If you want to work on something a bit more musical, this is the material to go for this weekend :)

After this week's music theory lesson, it's time to work on our technique once again! This is the most popular exercise in the inner circle VIP Facebook group (thanks for sharing all the awesome takes there) and it also greatly pushed my technique this year :)

Let's work on some killer music theory tricks today! We check out typical modal progressions and chords together and compare all that to the more simple/common key of A minor :)
You will be surprised to see that small changes (just one note in the case of dorian!) have big effects on the chords and sound of a composition! Make sure to check out the cadence comparison at the end of the video.

I'm happy to share the most challenging video I ever made with you today :) This summarizes all the techniques we are working on here in the Shred Guitar Community - with some added bonus levels (some crazy stuff in there).

Hope you enjoy this one, as always the next wishlist l...

Welcome back to another wishlist lesson :) Today I'd like to show you how to combine riffs with solos - this approach is very common nowadays and you will come up with some amazing and modern ideas with this concept. Please make sure to check out the additional PDF sheet I made for this lesson (Chord Melody Concepts), there...

Before we dive into your chosen topics for November, I'd like to share the exercise and concept that helped me most with correcting/improving my left-hand technique this year!
By including every finger in the workout, focusing on both hammer-ons and pull-offs, and by paying attention to note spacing/timing/articulation, I got some great results out of this exercise. Upon reviewing different things I tried (like emulating alternate picking licks and other concepts) it was THIS type of wo...

Today we check out an amazing system for guitar solos and improvisation - and it's NOT a scale, arpeggio, the CAGED system, or anything like that :) We discuss the importance of note choices and how to visualize an interval mindmap around a chosen root.
This system will help you with breaking free from playing the same licks, it will make your solos sound so much better and it also helps with chord/scale/arpeggio theory and fretboard visualization! So I definitely recommend digging into...
