210 - Beautiful Brain

Being electrocuted was an interesting experience.

Lexie let it happen, simply out of curiosity to see how it would impact her body. She knew she wouldn’t die from it, and she turned on <No Pain, But Gain> so that the pain wouldn’t completely immobilize her, but she was curious to see how strong the bolt would be.

Turned out–extremely strong.

The bone-shattering jolt zinged through her body, with searing pain that locked up her muscles. Her jaw cl...

“Teleport."

“No.”

“I need to see your pathways while teleporting so I can copy the skill.”

“I know. That’s precisely why I’m not doing it.”

Lexie frowned, narrowing her eyes at Cecilia. “You know I can just make you.”

“Then make me.” A challenge glinted in Cecilia’s eyes. She was bolder as this was about the third time she’d called Lexie’s bluff. They’d been having the argument since Uncle Max had gone hunting right as the sun ro...

Cecilia started by taking a deep breath, using her hand to make a calming gesture in the atmosphere.

“Okay, how about we start here?” she said. “Max, what exactly is out there that you're so scared of?”

He pursed his lips. “Zombies."

"I beg your pardon?"

“There are zombies, tall ones that control lightning. And they're not the dumb sort of zombies either. These ones are smart, and they also have a refined palate, which means they like to literally ro...

207 - Deadly Family

The man standing in front of Lexie was nearly unrecognizable. He was leaner than she remembered, with his near burgundy-colored hair falling in waves around his face, his beard overgrown. Instead of black, a pink eyepatch sat over his left eye. New scars appeared all over his face and leathery body, and he looked like he’d been sunburnt several times over.

But it was definitely Max. Uncle Max.

Lexie knew it as potently as she knew her own name.

He hadn...

Lexie instantly flashed to where Little Fae was, but she was too late.

Little Fae was in Pvilycht's hands, amidst a small whirlpool of earth and wind that he'd created around himself as a barrier.

Ryn had her hand extended out, but she was stuck in place, like her feet couldn’t move.

She sent Lexie an alarmed look.

“He took down my barriers like they were nothing,” she said.

“How? An explosion?”

She shook her head. “I think it was more lik...

205 - Interrogation

Dominic Vacek was headed to his war room.

It was in the basement of a building he owned, and it was where he often met with his secret soldiers. The meeting today was one of the most important ones they would ever have.

The Alchemist, against all odds and in defiance of the strictest security measures money could buy, had disappeared from his island castle. The cameras hadn't shown exactly what happened. They'd glitched for a second, and the next thing anyone knew, he was gone. View Post

204 - Monster

Cecilia was surprised when Lexie slew the first monster with ease.

It was a huge tentacled beast that had risen from the Earth when they’d triggered its trap. Ryn tried to explain exactly what the beast was, but Lexie ignored her.

It roared at them, sending its tentacles their way, but Lexie sliced almost all of them. She also leapt in the air while the creature sent more tentacles, and Ryn shielded Cecilia and Little Fae.

Lexie, of course, didn’t need a shield. View Post

Overpowered Pawn - 2 - Chosen or Unchosen

Even after traveling back in time, Arthur tried not to think of himself as part of a large conspiracy.

But Headmaster Janus’ death presented as a fairly bizarre and problematic phenomenon.

It was strange that there was someone powerful enough to defeat the Archmage, and it was also strange that they'd chosen to do it during one of Arthur's sessions with him. Also, the fact that it had been accomplished with little noise within the handful of minutes Arthur was away from th...

Overpowered Pawn - 1 - The Inquisition

5 years later...

The First Inquisition was held at the grand hall of the Spectre Cathedral,  a place where powerful mages routinely had their livelihoods stripped away.

It was a towering building that dominated the sky, with a multi-layered cross-sectional structure and balconies overlooking the central inquisition hall. Typically, those balconies were filled with monks and mages-in-training rushing to their readings and prayers, but today they were all in a differen...

Overpowered Pawn - Prologue

Morgan Vale would have escaped had it not been for the arrow in his ass.

It had caught him unawares, shot by one of the camouflaged bastards in the trees.

The man had chortled after he hit the target, too. Morgan’s elite hearing had picked it up, and he cursed himself for not activating it earlier.

The worst part was that the assassin wasn't alone. He alerted his friends to continue spraying arrows in the air, shooting even as Morgan fled. Dickheads.

Luckily, Morgan ...

NEW BOOK SURPRISE DROP

Hi guys!

So, there’s a surprise drop today, for the new book I mentioned I've been working on for a few months now (since after Book 2 of AOC)…

I was supposed to drop this two weeks ago, on my birthday weekend, but it didn’t feel quite ready yet and I still had to work out some kinks. Now, I’ve worked them out and I feel like I have enough of a backlog and enough plotted to start posting. I would like to get some feedback on the early chapters.

This books...

203 - Reflection

Lexie and Cecilia stared at each other for what felt like an eternity of silence. The woman seemed to be waiting for some kind of special response from Lexie, especially as the tears started rolling down her cheeks.

“I don’t remember who that is,” Lexie said, which made the woman cry harder, as she brought her hand over her mouth.

“That’s okay,” she said, obviously trying to control her emotions. “I mean, I knew you wouldn’t remember me. I haven’t seen you ...

202 - Experiments

Time passed, and Lexie grew.

Along with Ryn, she defeated fifty more levels and numerous other foes. Most of the levels had to do with puzzles, but there was also usually a violent component with Eldritch, or monsters, or swarms of trolls, or even humans participating in the stories.

Lexie was never sure whether these creatures were real or whether they were just figments of the dungeons' imagination.

She didn't much care. It would be the same result anyway. She often ...

Lexie’s head hurt.

It more than hurt. It felt like her brain was splitting into two.

The minute she activated the card, she was shoved into a plane, with such mind-twisting dimensions that it physically hurt her to try to understand them. Spherical doorways within doorways, worlds existing within each other, opposing each other, yet coexisting all the same.

She closed her eyes instantly because looking at it made her brain feel like it was going to explode. The...

Logan froze when he saw her, and Lexie, well, it felt like her insides burst into flames.

The torturous wave of emotions was worse than when she met Mickie.

So much worse.

She was flayed by the incomprehensible tornado that she couldn't sort through. It also felt like flames licking her skin.

Memories pushed to the forefront of her mind, bitter, yet addictive at the same time.

This Logan looked almost exactly like the one in her memories, except his hair was long...

“What?” Mickie asked, confusion rippling across her face as she finally caught up with Lexie. "What did you say?"

Lexie shook her head. “I was not talking to you.”

“Then who were you talking to? And how come Leslie didn't see you when you were standing right there? Also, I tried calling your phone, and you didn’t answer. What’s going on?”

Lexie shook her head. She didn’t have any answers for Mickie’s questions. And the longer she spent around the gir...

198 - In Another Life

The next thing Lexie did after she calmed down–and after Ryn and the little fae came over–was to summon V’Sala.

When he showed up, he was crouched over the ground, his jaw distended as though he were about to eat something. When he looked up and saw Lexie was there again, he sighed in disappointment.

“I do not enjoy your timing, Princess,” the V’Sala said.

“What is this place?” Lexie asked.

He glanced around. “It seems to be a human ...

Lexie shook her head as Ryn rambled, focusing on all the minute details in the space. “This is a school. My school.”

196 - A Familiar Scene

There was a large dragon tail curled around Ava’s body.

Dewie could see it as clear as day, no matter how many times he rubbed his eyes.

She was sitting a couple of seats ahead of him in their Heroes and Helpers class, and he’d been staring at her for almost the entire period.

Well, more accurately, he'd been staring at the dragon's tail.

The end of it looked sharp, and it poised right over her spine.

Dewie swallowed.

Ever since he'd stopped takin...

Lexie’s eyes were slow to open. It felt like her lids had been sealed shut and the muscles in them had atrophied, or something. She had to relearn how to connect her body to them and force her eyes open, using what felt like herculean strength.

She stared up at the red sky, which looked more like a mirage than reality. Her ears were ringing, but slowly she detected separate sounds. A bird call. A shuffling noise.

Her neck was stiff, but after some time, she managed to...

By the time Vacek arrived, Aiden had packed away all the tools and cleared his desk of everything but school material.

When the doorbell rang, he walked over to open it while drawing his magic into as tight a ball as he could manage within his body.

It might not prevent Vacek from noticing it. The other man probably still would, but Aiden was prepared for that, too. Even if Vacek sent an entire battalion of [Heroes] here right at this moment, they wouldn’t be able to stop him.&n...

193 - Lexie Vs Lexie Vs Lexie

Lexie scorched the first battalion of Lexies that came at her.

She let her VOID FLAME do its thing, wiping out at least ten of the front line, including a creature with multiple hands.

But then one of them threw up a shield made of void, and void cancelled out Lexie's voids.

Damn it.

She had <Can’t Touch This> sweeping her away from the coming army, but then they fanned out, surrounding her, leaving her nowhere to go.

<Lightfoot> flung her up.

Lexie killed the first ten creatures they encountered without bothering to learn what they were.

It bothered the Fae female to no end, mostly because Lexie often killed them while the Fae was in the middle of her monologue.

She would start going on a long tangent about what the creatures were and their rarity and their place in the ecosystem, when Boom!

Before she could finish her boring lecture, Lexie would point and blast a hole in its head.

After the tenth time, the...

The Fae male did not die easily.

Even as his pale pink Fae blood gushed out of the line at his throat, his eyes wide in shock, he held out his hand, ordering the golem to crush Lexie’s head between two of its rock appendages.

Lexie threw up <All Around Protection>, but it wasn’t enough. There were too many rock limbs sprouting to stop them all. The shield stopped three of them, but at least four large stony fists headed for Lexie’s face, about to smash it i...

A prickle at the back of the neck was her only warning.

Lexie activated <All Eyes on Me> so she could tell the direction of the attack. <True Windkiller> snatched away right in time as the phantom thing launched at her.

Lexie was leaning against the cave wall, her body on fire.

Both literally and metaphorically.

The flames licked on top of her skin that was now protected by only a thin layer of a forcefield. Some of it had burned her still, but even as she bled, she barely felt it. She barely felt anything at all.

Dewie had been having a seventy percent good day.

Most of the things that happened were good. He woke up early before the general alarm and practiced some of his magical meditation. He performed mana cloud exercises until he could feel the mana tingling at the tip of his fingers. Push, pull, push, pull.

However, all the exercises didn't help much in controlling his mana output.

He was usually alright with simple spells.

But the second he tried anything other than...

Ever since the child was born, the father’s entire life revolved around keeping it alive.

At least that was what it looked like to Naem. Aiden quickly lost focus on the things that used to drive him before: his thirst for knowledge, the hunger for power, the itch to grow his magic to unbelievable heights. For some time leading up to that moment of her birth, he had stopped seeking out Naem’s company as much, and Naem was worried that he'd wasted his time on a human mage who wo...
