Blammed [8-Bit; VRC6+FDS] - Friday Night Funkin'

While trying to export the NSF, I was met with the error message "Error: Instrument data overflow, can't export file!". This is most likely due to how many different FDS waves I used to emulate Pico's voice, and I haven't figured out a workaround for this issue. For the visualizer footage seen in the video, and for the NSF I attached to this post, I had to reduce Pico's vocals to just one FDS wave. It doesn't sound great lol. Sorry about that ._.

I honestly can't tell if I made "arp spam" sound halfway decent, or if I'm just getting used to the sound of arps. It has never really been my style, but it's fun to experiment with arps nonetheless. I think famitracker collabs are more fun for me than they are for the person I'm working with lol. I've discovered recently that I do a lot of things in famitracker differently when it comes to effects, instrument presets and dynamics. I do enjoy that aspect of making music in a tracker though; there seem to often be multiple ways to achieve the same thing.

Opens in 0cc and Dn-Famitracker, but works best in the latter. Vanilla famitracker doesn't support multichip stuff.

I'm honestly tempted to do more multichip covers of FNF music because of how fun this was to make, but I'll most likely wait for future content and more songs. The animation for the video was also fun to make, albeit tedious for obvious reasons lol. I hope people enjoy it though!

I'm slowly accumulating a collection of unfinished projects. It's a bit concerning because I don't want this to become a habit, but I do plan on eventually finishing most or all of them! But first, I do have plans to revisit a series I haven't touched in a while.

It would be kinda cool if I commissioned someone to work on a more interesting animation for this otherwise short project. I'm not opposed to commissioning art for my arrangements, but I don't plan far ahead enough on my projects to make something like that work. Oh well.

I know I shouldn't feel this way, but I'm so used to making longer covers. Lately I've been sitting on more and more unfinished covers where I experimented too much and ended up not liking the overall sound. This was a fun arrangement to make, but I also feel like I've been improving with my pixel art which is nice. I'll probably always rely heavily on references when making pixel art, but anatomy is something I've never been able to grasp.

Opens only in 0CC-FamiTracker because vanilla doesn't support use of multiple chips. In this case, I used a N163 channel to make a pulse phasing effect that is often seen in Super Mario Galaxy music. I also used it for some slightly varied sounds throughout the arrangement.

I had to do a lot of weird stuff with the Zxx effect to make the DPCM balancing work with minimal popping noises. There are still a lot of popping noises, but at least they're almost inaudible.

Anyways I took a break for a couple months and now I think I'm ready to return. There are multiple reasons why I took a break, but I believe it was ultimately a healthy decision. Except for the fact that I didn't reeeeeally take a break from Famitracker, and I now have several unfinished projects...

There are so many parallel octaves in this track and I only realized this when they sounded like garbage in Famitracker lol. Hearing the smash ultimate remix during the min min reveal trailer really got me motivated to finish working on this because of how energetic that version is.
