Looking ahead

Quick update.

Hey all,

Just a quick post to keep you informed. All my renders are done for the coming update. I've just got to finish up putting the game script together.

I had some struggles this week with doing some renders inside a cave.

Trying to light the scene it as it would in reality with the sun shining in though the hole in the ceiling works, however iray really doesn't like this. Even after 3 hours the render is still super grainy, unusable. I guess the rays just have to bounce too...

Hi guys, I hope you are all well.

After the end of the last update you would be be forgiven for thinking you might never see Haley again, but as you can see she's not quite out of the picture yet.

I'm basically just waiting for renders to finish. It's taking longer as I decided I needed to render an extra angle for one of the animations plus I also made some other fuck ups which wasted time.

I'm almost there! This should be a last post before the update so not long now.

It's always around this point I seem to find problems with some of the renders I've done.

Poke through is one of the worst, where the skin is poking out through the clothing. No matter what you do in Daz to try and make it go it away it just doesn't work sometimes.

Just checking in with you guys again, progress is going well.

I recently invested in some new hardware. I put my old GTX 1070 and GTX 1070 Ti back in with my intel 2500k and am now using that machine solely for rendering. I can have it work on rendering 24/7 now.

For my working machine I've bought a RTX 2080 ti, this thing is fast. Faster than both the 1070 and 1070 Ti combined. Plus it has more vram for those more complex scenes.

Hi guys,

I meant to get this post up yesterday but I was unable due to my computer being in pieces.

No, it's not broken, I've just replaced my 8 year old cpu (i5 2500k) with a Threadripper 1920x. The i5 2500k has to be one the the best cpus of all time but it's really showing it's age. When rendering on just the gpus only the cpu would also be almost maxed out. If I tried to use the cpu to help render also it would actually slow the gpus down causing the render to take longer.

No real news to report, development continues. It looks like Rosa has got herself into a bit of trouble at the moment.

Turns out the AI denoiser uses quite a bit of VRAM, about 700MB. Add that to the fact that Windows 10 likes to steal about 19% also, 1.52GB on my 8GB cards. It's leaving less and less for texture and such. At least I get to improve my scene optimization skills.

Hi guys, I hope you all enjoyed the holidays.

So I'm back and development will be resuming asap. No one has been charged for the past 2 months.

I wasn't able to do much over the past few weeks but I did play around with the daz studio beta.

It has a interesting new "AI denoiser".

Its pretty amazing at removing noise, but at the cost of also some detail.

While not perfect it can make a render useable while it might ordinarily not be. It should be useful.
