I am not a UI designer; I've always felt that Yandere Simulator's UI looked bad, and that various aspects of it were all going to be re-designed and replaced eventually. Over the years, I've asked various concept artists to design new UIs for the game, and as a result, I've amassed a large amount of concept artwork depicting "what could be" - the interface that Yandere Simulator could have one day.
Here, you'll find concept art for:
1. The title screen.
2. The "How To Play" ...

As you can tell by visiting the stores in Yandere Simulator and looking out at the horizon, the game takes place next to the ocean. Back when I was considering the idea of adding a small town to the game, I asked artists to draw concept art of what the view of the ocean might look like from the game's town. I don't think I ever showed off any of this artwork, so here it is!
You'll notice that the 4th image depicts Yandere Simulator taking place on a heart-shaped island. I elaborate abou...

When people see a character from Yandere Simulator, I don't want them to think, "Oh, a character wearing a generic anime school uniform." I want them to think, "Oh! That's a character wearing the Yandere Simulator school uniform!" I want Yandere Simulator to have its own unique uniform design that people can recognize and associate with the game. Something to help give the game its own unique identity and visual aesthetic.
To that end, I have sometimes requested concept art from artists...

The purpose of any screen in a video game is to communicate information, and I believe that the current iteration of the Calendar screen communicates exactly what it needs to. However, I've often wondered if there might be any good ways to spruce it up and make it look a bit more interesting and thematically appropriate. To that end, I have occasionally asked concept artists to submit concepts for how the Calendar screen could be improved or re-designed.
In this post, you'll see some m...

I've said this many times, but I feel really bad that I rarely post anything on my Patreon page. Whenever I think about it, I arrive at the conclusion that my patrons would probably want me to work on the game rather than spending a bunch of time preparing supporter-exclusive rewards, so I usually put the Patreon out of my mind. However, I feel way too guilty about it to just ignore it for any longer.
I've decided to challenge myself to post on my Patreon 30 days in a row, starting toda...

For a long time, I've wanted to add a new type of weapon to the game. Recently, a new animator joined the team, and has begun working on the animations that I would need in order to implement the weapon. Here's a preview of how the animation is turning out!
As you can tell from the animation above, it would be a strangulation weapon.
There are various types of objects that can be used to suffocate someone; wrapping a garotte around someone's throat, covering their head with a plas...

In 2016, someone sang a yandere-themed parody of "You'll Be Back" from the musical "Hamilton". She sent me her song, and wanted me to upload it to my YouTube channel.
I loved the concept, but I had three problems with the song:
1. I didn't like the instrumental that was chosen (chiptune instead of orchestral)
2. I thought that the vocals would sound better without autotune
3. I thought that there were a few places where the lyrics could be improved
For a short while...

I'm not sure whether or not all rivals will have a Befriend/Betray stealth mission. Each mission would require the creation of an entire new environment and multiple NPCs walking around in it, each using new animations and voice acting. It's a "Stretch Goal" - something that would only get into the game *if* we raise enough money during the crowdfunding campaign.
Even though the stealth missions are not 100% guaranteed to get into the game, I still want to plan them out and have the con...

The artist who drew Chapter 2 of the Nemesis manga was busy for a long time, but recently became available again and has resumed work on the next chapter of the manga. About 50% of Chapter 3 is currently finished, and I'm super happy with how it's turning out so far. I want you to be excited, too, so I'm sharing page 12 with you. I hope it gets you curious to learn how things are going to turn out!
I'm looking forward to the day that I can drop all 21 pages on you and show you how the c...

Years ago, the majority of the rooms in Akademi were empty. With each update, I slowly populated those rooms with props, one-by-one. However, two rooms have remained completely empty for over a year now: The "English Classroom" and "Biology Lab." I wasn't really sure what to do with those rooms...until an extremely talented concept artist shared their vision with me.
Here's the plan:
The "English Classroom" is going to become the "Foreign Studies" room. It's going to have a cla...

After releasing 1980s Mode, I received an avalanche of extremely useful feedback from players; requests for quality-of-life improvements, suggestions for new features, and observations that highlighted certain flaws and exploits in the game. I put all of this feedback into a massive "To-Do List," and began working on it. As time passed, it gradually evolved into a sort of general-purpose, "Things I want to fix, improve, or implement before the crowdfunding campaign" checklist. I put dozens of...

Hello!
I have many festive annual traditions, but this particular tradition is quite different from the rest.
At the beginning of each year, I write a post describing how I spent the money that I received through Patreon throughout the previous year, and my plans for the upcoming year.
So far, I've written transparency reports for 2015, 2023-01-04 05:39:30 +0000 UTC

I wanted to uphold my annual tradition of posting a Christmas-themed music video on December 25th, but I thought that it would be weird if the most recent two videos on my channel were both Christmas videos. It would send a weird message; "This guy completely abandoned game development, and only returns once per year to post an obligatory Christmas video." So, I decided to make a short video just to say, "Don't worry, guys, I'm still alive, and I'm still working on that game!" I kinda went ov...

I spent the majority of the past 15 days working on the upcoming tutorial for 202X Mode. Here is a short video preview of what it's like!
It might be somewhat underwhelming, because of the lack of voice acting. The voiceover narration from Kokona is what will make the tutorial into the experience that it's meant to be.
Still, even though this video lacks voice acting, it still demonstrates the "gameplay loop" of the tutorial - select tutorial from menu, follow the instructions ons...

Yandere Simulator is set in a fictional school named Akademi Academy, which is in a fictional town named Buraza Town, which is nearby another fictional town named Shisuta Town. Initially, I imagined these towns being located in the mountains to the west of Tokyo. Later, I imagined them being located on the coast of a small peninsula to the southeast of Tokyo. But, occasionally, I consider a third potential location for the school and the two towns: an island south of Tokyo. It would be locate...

The premise of the tutorial is that the Drama Club is rehearsing a school play about a serial killer, and they have invited Ayano to play the role of the killer.
This provides a scenario in which the player receives instructions on how to commit murder and get away with it in a "safe" setting with no judgement, no permanent consequences, and no possibility for failure. The player is allowed to practice any aspect of the process as many times as they want by selecting it from a list. I p...

When I first created the intro cutscene for Yandere Simulator, I was extremely proud of it. However, now that I'm looking back at it 3 years later, I feel like I could do much better. I'm considering the idea of completely revising the visuals of the intro cutscene so that the game makes a bunch better impression on anyone who plays the demo build during the upcoming crowdfunding campaign.
I know that a lot of people stopped paying attention to Yandere Simulator a few years ago. When so...

Hello! Today, I'd like to give you a sneak peek of something that will be added to the game in the near future. It's a new weapon - a scythe!

I hope that you'll have fun with the new weapon once it becomes available!

Every now and then, as I work on the game, a little surprise happens - a volunteer will contact me and let me know that they were struck with inspiration and created something for the game purely of their own accord. Sometimes, their creation is concept art for something they'd like to see added to the game in the future.
In this particular case, my lead artist Mulberry felt inspired to design new performance outfits for the Light Music Club - the outfits that they would wear if I ever ...

At the end of Yandere Simulator's intro cutscene, a series of visuals flash onscreen - images of the rivals and of important plot elements, such as the legendary cherry tree behind the school. In the next build, the images of the rivals will be getting a big visual upgrade; fancy renders were created for each of them within Blender, and I think they all look fantastic!
In-game, these images will appear kinda small onscreen, but the volunteers who created these renders did an amazing job...

In 1980s Mode, Ryoba can play a retro-styled video game inside of her room - a shoot-em-up called "Space Witch." A few months ago, a 3D modeller contacted me and offered to help me with Yandere Simulator. He specialized in environments, so I asked him to model an environment that I've been imagining for a long time - a place that Ayano would visit as part of a Befriend/Betray stealth mission.
The modeller has completed the exterior of the building, and is now working on the interior. I'm extremely pleased with how it's turning out so far! You can see a brief video of the environment above.

Recently, an exceptionally talented 3D artist has been creating models and textures to improve or replace many of Yandere Simulator's most lackluster assets. Their latest target was the Occult Club - a part of the game that hasn't had any new assets made for it since 2015! After 7 years, this club was definitely due for an upgrade, especially since it's one of the most unique and iconic places in the school.
