So, I didn't expect to feel this strongly against Mulan 2020. I expected it to be soulless (which it is), like the new Lion King . I expected it butcher the story with virtue signaling (which it does), like the new Beauty and the Beast.
But I did not expect the film to goes absolutely counter to everything Mulan is stood for. The progressive message. The inclusive nature. The empowerment. Nothing! It has nothing!! All it has, is a harmful message.

It has been a while since we last done an episode like this. This was a fun one to make. No matter how many times I rewatch these fight scenes, it is still just as good as ever. It also serves as an excuse for me to talk about an underrated gem: Jet Li's Fearless.
Just a heads up, if you want to watch Fearless, I strongly suggest finding the theatrical cut instead of the director's cut. This is one of those weird movie that the director's cut is worse.

Hope you all enjoy yesterday's special video. Making highly topical and political videos like that is scary. Outside of it naturally being controversial and invites hate, it also adds a layer of financial pressure to the channel, as the video is, by its nature, not advertiser friendly.

Ghibli films are like Zelda games, the first one you watch always has the most special of places in your heart. My first one happens to be Whisper of the Heart, which I caught on TV when I was around time. Memories are vague, but the experience is still vivid.

IMPORTANT: Patreon recently notified its users that, starting July 1st, it'll be applying sales tax to your pledges. The rules are dependent upon where individual patrons are located, so you may or may not be affected.
