“What do you mean he wants the skills I have?” Dallion asked.
Before he could receive an answer, the dream came to an abrupt end and Dallion felt a deep sensation of malice coming from all directions. Fractions of a second later, he sensed something as well—the cold sensation of void.
“Gleam!” Dallion jumped to his feet.
Barely had he done so when the house he had been given to sleep in was split in two. A thread of destruction sliced through the wooden walls, chop...

Dallion let out a sigh of relief the moment he stepped out of the countess’ palace. Whoever had said that there were no secrets for a domain ruler was scarily right. Dallion had always suspected that the nobles secretly knew the link between him and his grandfather. Now he had seen the proof. Countess Priscord’s parents had been the ones who had promoted Kraisten. Not only that, but it was likely they had turned Aspion’s sister into an overseer.
Maybe this is a blessing in dis...

News of a new awakened in the Gremlin’s Timepiece quickly spread throughout the Nerosal. Fury servants were quite common, but having an awakened one was enough to attract crowds. As a level one, Diroh was only able to upgrade one item per day, and Hannah had restricted mending to only a couple, but that wasn’t what brought customers in. It was more about seeing the fury in action. Even old regulars used to there being a fury in the inn were impressed, almost as if they were going through ...

With a casual stroll Cmyk made his way down the staircase, through the trap chamber to the gardens. He quite enjoyed that part of the day. There was nothing like a few hours of calm and serenity among the underground fields and orchards now that the gardens were in full bloom. Of course, it helped that the dungeon dedicated vast amounts of energy to the gardens, making sure they were in near perpetual bloom. The plants ranged from common to exotic, the exotic ones being only for decoration. C...

Chests from the earl’s treasury started arriving a few hours later. They were considerably bigger than Theo had expected, and refreshingly useful. Sadly, they couldn’t compare to the heart core, but they were in enough amounts for the dungeon to strengthen the town wall as well as create a few more ballista towers. Due to the guard’s insistence that they be given charge of the defense capabilities, Theo was left with no other choice than to compensate by creating as many towers for his ...

Entering the Gremlin’s Timepiece was different from usual. Upon seeing the fury, Hannah promptly chased out the few regulars, then closed and locked the door. Dallion was tempted to use the opportunity to go to the kitchen to get a proper meal. That was going to have to wait, though.
“This is Hannah,” he told Diroh. “She helped me when I first got here. She also helped Eury and your sister.”
Diroh looked at the innkeeper, not knowing what to say.
“An otherworlder...

“Don’t look back,” Dallion whispered as they walked away from Halburn. “Just keep walking calmly.”
Getting into a scuffle with a noble wasn’t how Dallion imagined things would go. Based on what Jiroh had told him in his dream, he had pictured it as an infiltration and rescue operation. The rescue part was there, though not from the people he expected it to be. Both the imperials and the Order seemed more interested in the city itself than anyone there. Also, the blocker ring...

For the first time in quite a while Dallion had witnessed something that not only defied explanation to him, but all of his guardians as well.
Nil insisted that Hailstorm wasn’t a skill, and a quick check in Diroh’s awakening room proved that. Other than the ice dagger, there was no new frame on the walls, indicating that no new skills had been acquired. Dallion uses his layer vision, and even Gleam to go over every inch of the room, making sure that the skill wasn’t somehow hidde...

“Why are you with the hero?” the skeletal warrior asked.
He was a lot more impressive than Cmyk could ever be. Standing seven feet tall, covered by large slabs of metal armor, he could easily stand up to any of the gnomework suits of Lord Mandrake. If Theo was to guess, this would pass as a “boss minion”—powerful creatures aimed to put an end to any intruding heroes or adventurers. Creating one cost a tremendous amount of core points.
“Are you an assistant?” The skel...

The dungeon’s avatar slowly floated down to the floor. As it did, ice emerged, creeping up along the walls of the chamber, sealing it from any external interference. The temperature drop was so intense that several of the talismans worn shattered off the avatar’s neck. Interestingly enough, the resist sleep talisman was also glowing. It seemed that the dungeon was using some sort of sleeping mist to render heroes harmless.
“The sleeping mist is a nice touch,” the avatar said. ...

“Nox,” Dallion said.
Instantly, the puma-like crackling emerged, leaping onto the ground a step away. His appearance was very different from the cub that Dallion had taken years ago. The eagerness and enthusiasm had gradually been replaced by lethal predator skills and lots of sleep. One thing that hadn’t changed was Nox’ desire to be flashy, especially in front of people who could see him.
“That’s your familiar?” Diroh asked as the puma walked around, rubbing agains...

“There’s no one there,” a mercenary fury said as Dallion kept knocking on the door of Diroh’s inn.
“Seems so.” Dallion turned around. “What happened? There used to be lots of hunter inns a few months ago.”
“Guess you haven’t been here a bit longer than that.” The fury smirked. He looked like a typical mercenary for hire, with a lot of mismatched pieces of armor and custom-made weapons. The one surprising thing was that he also had a spark of awakening in him....

The inn’s kitchen emerged around Dallion. His eyes moved about, readjusting to the new reality. Even after all this time, he hadn’t gotten used to the experience completely.
“Did you make it?” Aspan asked, as a copy of him placed a plate of food on the table, in front of Dallion.
“Yeah. I’m sixty-eight.”
The food smelled nice, but for some reason Dallion didn’t seem hungry. He was still contemplating his decision at the trial. Was it the right choice? Or was ...

BREATHING ENCHANTMENT
Allows breathing underwater for one day.
“Underwater charms?” Theo’s avatar asked. “Am I going for a swim?”
The elf placing the enchantment on him grunted. She didn’t like being rushed, especially since Theo had already made a fuss about going on the mission as quickly as possible. Normally, there would have been a full day of preparation. Instead, she and two others were forced to rush talisman p...

Oh, crap! Dallion thought as he looked at the actions his opponent had done.
So far, the Archduke hadn’t entered a single structure. Instead, he was creating a wide perimeter, circling a large chunk of the room. As he walked, the tiles beneath him lit up in a deep blue. The echo continued for several more steps until he suddenly stopped, then turned in Dallion’s direction and waved.
“I see you’ve got a head start,” the echo shouted. “Good play. I hope I’m ab...

All four wall segments of the arena crumbled down, revealing the rest of the room. It had changed substantially since moments ago. There were guild halls, two-story merchant centers, three-story guard forts, as well as a few temples, and several noble mansions. One thing that the archduke hadn’t explained was those different exits, twisting the path in a particular way. If Dallion were to guess, this would be changing one’s behavior based on association with the specific supporters.

A cool breeze greeted Dallion as he entered his realm. The echoes had changed things a bit, transforming the landmass into a crescent island connected through miles long suspended bridge to an archipelago of islands. Each of the main guardians had their own domains: the haprsisword had retained her tower close to the shore, Vihrogon had his “lodge” inland, surrounded by trees. The bowl dryad guardian had a simple wooden dome nearby, next to a small pond. She was the only inhabitant of Dal...

The only thing that Theo could say about the Silvarians was that they were the least elvish elves he could think of. In his previous life, he had familiarized himself with thousands of concepts relating to them. At one point, half of all projects Theo was involved with—along with their competitors—had elves. Back then, he was one of many who had complained about how bland and identical they seemed to all other depictions. Now, when he least wanted it, he had gotten his wish come true: som...

“Jiroh?” Dallion took a step back in the air. “I thought you left.”
“Nice to see you haven’t lost your rough edges even after all that leveling up. I’m still in my world, but my Moon agreed to let me talk to you.”
“This is a dream?” Dallion looked at his hand, trying to remember how he had gotten here. No matter how hard he tried, he always came to the same conclusion: he had always been there.
The clouds broke up, revealing a better view of the sky. As D...

Going back to Nerosal was also an experience. After the rogue mage was dealt with, the poison plague was no longer viewed as the threat it had been before. However, the walls and patrols remained. There the empire wasn’t at war, but Dallion had heard it be said that skirmishes were a daily occurrence up north. The south, thankfully, had been spared for the moment and even standard caravan activity had picked up.
“Hello, old birch,” Dallion said as he leaned on the stump of a rathe...

“Should have known you’d overgo things,” Liandra said, looking at the giant carrier.
Meanwhile, aether spheres were listing people, a dozen at a time, up inside. It was a wasteful way of using energy, but the sooner the whole group could start the trip to Rosewind, the better.
“I take it no heroes showed up?” Theo’s avatar asked. On the one hand, that was good. It meant that he wouldn’t have to worry about others discovering his nature. At the same time, he was reall...

The ground exploded in a mountain of rocks and dirt, injuring seven of Dallion’s instances. All the rest scattered away from the point of impact, shield in front.
Gleam, at it! Dallion ordered as he summoned his dartblade.
Using that might be a bit optimistic on your part, dear boy, Nil said. I’d suggest sticking to your harpsisword.
Don’t worry, Nil. Dallion burst into a new set of instances. I’m sure Harp will understand.

After the recent encounter, the trip to Linadol was long, but uneventful. There were times at which Dallion almost hoped that something would appear and attack, but the few wilderness creatures that he sensed were quick to move as far away as possible.
The new skill had changed Euryale, as Dallion knew it would. The gorgon kept her blocking ring on, but every now and again some of her snakes would twitch for no reason. If Dallion were to guess, he’d say she was going through personal ...

Multi-tasking was a difficult skill in the best of times. It was said to be the trait of successful generals, rulers, and merchant masterminds. People with such abilities would build empires—financial or other—win vast battles and not lose any sleep in the process. None of them were anywhere close to what a dungeon was capable of, and all Theo had to show for it was an almost empty goblin carrier and small, though sophisticated, building in the town of Rosewind. And now, by the looks of i...

The day waiting turned into two, then three. Dallion did not complain, for it gave him a chance to rest and heal thanks to Lux. Getting used to his new ability was somewhat more difficult, but thanks to enough guidance from Nil and Vihrogon, he learned to ignore the talk of the plants most of the time. The greatest mental obstacle was getting used to living in a world in which everything from food to firewood to objects spoke back. It definitely gave a whole new perspective on the world. Ever...
