Un-used 'Oily' Comic

So Wednesday's comic was going in a different direction than what was released. Here is a mostly done, but unfinished variant of that comic.  As you can see, there is no real punch line and it just didn't click when we read it over and over.  So we scrapped it and changed it to the current one you saw on Wednesday. We altered some assets, but overall it was a pretty significant change.  This version didn't even show the Spa Sisters.  Amazing how much things can change.

Early Comic - Oily Discussion

I will show you the previous version of this comic probably tomorrow.  It is so different.  Still not too pleased with this, we couldn't make it funny, but we tried.  It is going to open up to some silly antics in the future.  First appearance of Lotus and Aloe. The rejected comic I will show also explains why Lily is there.  This one just leaves you hanging on that.  Oh well.

So we are building up Starlight's co-workers a bit.  They will partake in some of Starlight's shenanigans.  But about midweek we will move to some other storylines as well.   I hope you all have a super weekend!

Making The Grade Discussion

Fictional You Episode Discussion

Monday episode, Fictional You went through some changes upon first iteration, but really, it has remained the same.  I dislike wordy comics, but sometimes it happens.  Originally when Starlight said "What ever happened to just being yourself?" Roseluck would have responded by saying, "It doesn't exist."  It was to imply that no one truly is themselves at all times... or that to find someone you can't purely be yourself.  Relationships all require changes and compromise bet...

Okay, maybe interesting to people who follow this stuff.  So originally upon the first release the episode was called, "Banking On It" and it included Rachel, everyone's possibly favorite banker pony.  But soon after release we noticed that a previous episode was called, "Banking On It."  So we quickly jumped and rereleased the episode as, "Deposit This."  See, super interesting.  *Everyone rolls their eyes*

Spike Day Discussion

Awww yes.  A Spike comic.  I was noticing the other day that rarely are comic's from SPIKE'S perspective.  They are usually told through someone else but we just happen to understand Spike's view on whatever the subject is anyways.  It's quite interesting.  

So when Spike and Starlight for example have a comic, it usually takes a neutral stance and the reader is neither inside the mind of either character.  It's kind of weird if you think about it.

Welcome To Zeph's Life Discussion

The goal is to finish this in one more comic.  The turning point (possibly) for Zephyr has been realized and seen.  But will he follow through or have lapses in the future?  What will he do about his friends and family?  So there is much to do there, but all that can be one-off things.

By the way, the "room service" pony is based on a real character from the series known as Sparkleworks, whom I think only appears in the MLP cartoon once maybe?  I'm not 100% sure...

Crafts Class Discussion

Either you can handle small kids of not.  Starlight tried, but didn't succeed.  This will start a longer term journey for her to finding out what she wants to do and who she wants to be.  She's more than just a pone who likes Spike.  We got to flesh her out beyond that.

Renewed Light Discussion

Remember when Zephyr helped out Cheerilee with an abusive dude?  Well Cheerilee didn't forget and returned the favor.  We never forget!  Hopefully this gets people curious as to what will happen and just what Zephyr will do. But this will end this story for a short time as Zephyr works to resolve issues.  See what happens next week as move on to something different for a bit. Time for some more Adorable Twilight.

Unwanted Guests Discussion

The final episode to this mini-episodic story driven ...thing.... will end on Friday.  Here is Wednesday's episode.  We cut and crammed a lot.  It's hard with only six panels.  At least we remembered to draw Fluttershy's missing hubcap!

Tumblr has continued to see decline after decline, after decline.  If we were to move somewhere else, where would you think we could make a good community?  Most of us in house think Deviant Art is the safest bet as we already have a base there somewhat.  It would be horrible to just drop eveything we've built up at Tumblr, but we've stagnated at around 3,800 followers and our note count daily has been dropping in average (which could be due...

Cut Material

The original episode last Friday in "New Zephyr" also had some text we cut from the episode.  It was going to be written and shown differently.  This is roughly the scene we cut.  While cute, it doesn't do much.  But it does start the beginnings of a friendship for Moondancer and Fluttershy, which is what we want to do.  So this little short will appear probably on Tuesday.
